AIBU that he does go straight for a shower?

DP came home from walking football an hour ago, had his tea and is lying on the settee with his sweaty socks on the arm of the chair.
I always ask him to go straight to the shower as I find it a bit disgusting, his excuse is that it's walking football and he's not got a sweat on.
I personally get straight in the shower from the gym/outdoor sports as I don't want to inflict my potential stink/bedraggled appearance on anyone else in the house.
So AIBU ?

I don't really micromanage when my husband showers as he's an adult. But then we have our dog on the sofa, so sweaty socks are probably a drop in the ocean in this house Grin

thistimelastweek · 25/08/2021 21:38

Pretty much what Starjammer said.
I think we can be a bit crazy on the hygeine stuff. Getting a bit hot doesn't make you a hazard in the home

Briarshollow · 25/08/2021 21:43

You’re policing him like you’re his mother.

Concestor · 25/08/2021 21:44

I don't shower after I come home from the gym, I don't get that sweaty and if I do I'm dry by the time I get home. Unless he actually smells bad I think you are being picky. Maybe ask him to take his socks off?

Bathtimebillie · 25/08/2021 21:45

Knowing people who do walking football, he will be getting a sweat on

Mrstamborineman · 25/08/2021 21:46

Leave him alone. He isn’t a muddy child. Unless he actually leaves a mess, then he should clear it up of course.

GoodHairDay86 · 25/08/2021 21:46

Sorry pp thats grim you don't shower after sweating at the gym, eww you said because its dry by the time you get home dry heave . To the OP I agree with you he needs to shower 🚿

LST · 25/08/2021 21:47

YABU. He's not a child

Newkitchen123 · 25/08/2021 21:48

I've never heard of walking football but he's a fully grown adult in his own home and I'm sure he's capable of deciding when to shower

Justgettingbye · 25/08/2021 21:48

It is a bit minging but I couldn't imagine telling my DP to have a shower it's up to the individual really

WildNorthEast · 25/08/2021 21:50

I'll stand up for you OP! I think he should have a shower when he comes in too!

MissCalamity · 25/08/2021 21:51

It's a newish settee as well 🥺

Perhaps I do need to chill a bit, personally I could not shower after exercising, maybe I'm an excessive sweater 🥵

Sometimes if I come home from clubbercise and haven't had my tea I will eat that and watch tv before having a shower. If I've been jogging I will get straight in shower.

Bluntness100 · 25/08/2021 21:52

No clue what walking foot ball is, but I also don’t micro manage my husbands personal hygiene, I’m not his mother.

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 25/08/2021 21:52

My DP will tell me I'm a tramp though 😂

TrainspottingWelsh · 25/08/2021 21:59

I've got horses, so out-stink pretty much every other sport even when I'm not doing an aspect that causes me to sweat. Dp would be told to fuck off if he expected me to shower immediately every time I walked through the door.

Bimblybomeyelash · 25/08/2021 22:11

What is walking football???

sweeneytoddsrazor · 25/08/2021 22:12

Its walking do you shower after a walk.?

It may be fairly brisk walking but it certainly isn't running, or a gym work out

Oogachuckachopsy · 25/08/2021 22:14

What do some of you think happens when a clean and antiperspirant-ed person lightly sweats following a slightly elevated heart rate from a walking version of a popular sport?!

What deadly forms of bacteria do you think starts pouring from their widened pores? What sort of filth do you think spews forth with such poison and danger that it is going to wreck your not-quite-new furniture?!

I couldn’t live with that level of angst in my life 😂

sweeneytoddsrazor · 25/08/2021 22:16

Walking football is exactly what it says a game of football but you walk not run. Mainly played by over 50s as far as I know

Chickychoccyegg · 25/08/2021 22:20

Definitely no need to rush into the shower after walking football, it's brisk walking!!

Mantlemoose · 25/08/2021 22:28

Give him a bit of peace fgs.

TrainspottingWelsh · 25/08/2021 22:47

@Oogachuckachopsy covid obviously

eeek88 · 25/08/2021 22:52

The only time I ask my partner to wash is when he’s covered in actual shit, or has just delivered a cow/lamb. Yabu.

OnTheBoardwalk · 25/08/2021 22:56

If muddy you should hose him down in the garden like Pulp Fiction. If not I’d leave him be
