AIBU that he does go straight for a shower?

DP came home from walking football an hour ago, had his tea and is lying on the settee with his sweaty socks on the arm of the chair.
I always ask him to go straight to the shower as I find it a bit disgusting, his excuse is that it's walking football and he's not got a sweat on.
I personally get straight in the shower from the gym/outdoor sports as I don't want to inflict my potential stink/bedraggled appearance on anyone else in the house.
So AIBU ?

From an outside, no-contact form of football for older men?

TrainspottingWelsh · 25/08/2021 23:06

@Oogachuckachopsy well not amongst rational people no, but this is mumsnet Grin

True.

I might suggest those lovely zipped clear plastic covers for sofas, as seen on Everybody Loves Raymond. That’ll keep the Covid out of the fibres and will come up beautifully with a Dettol wipe or 19.

TrainspottingWelsh · 25/08/2021 23:14

Along with plastic floor runners for covid secure carpet Grin

Lockheart · 25/08/2021 23:26

Unless he's covered in mud or pouring sweat, I'd leave him be.

Ohpulltheotherone · 25/08/2021 23:30

If my DP ordered me straight to the shower the minute I got in from a run I’d be fuming. And I’m a full on sweaty mess when I get home.

Unless he’s dangling his sweaty bollocks all over your new scatter cushions I’d probably leave him to it.

prettyprinceofpartiez · 25/08/2021 23:38

Nah, it's not about policing him or mothering him, but expecting common courtesy to you/your shared belongings. Why should you have to be around his stinky post exercise scent or have your sofa soiled with his stale sweat? I'm guessing it's not a one off either, and over time there is absolutely nothing worse than sitting on a sofa and getting a whiff of old BO. YNBU!

leonpride · 25/08/2021 23:39

YANBU

if your partners hygiene is bothering you, nothing wrong with giving a polite reminder to shower. Shouldn't have to sit there and put up with poor habits. You should be able to communicate it to him

ChickpeaCrunch · 25/08/2021 23:41

Depends how much he stinks

OnTheBoardwalk · 25/08/2021 23:43

Ohpulltheotherone I don’t have scatter cushions or know what they are but if he had his sweaty bollocks on them I’d be raging

thelastgoldeneagle · 25/08/2021 23:56

Fuck me, can the posters asking what walking football is not fucking google it??? It's not rocket science.

QueenBee52 · 26/08/2021 00:14

Wow...

I'd never impose my sweaty body odour from exercising upon anyone... 😳

I'd be in the Shower before walking into the front room..

must just be me 🚿🧼🤣

Thewiseoneincognito · 26/08/2021 00:14

Yuk that sounds utterly hideous OP, you’re right for wanting him to shower. Some very grim posters on here with low standards if they find it acceptable 🤐

Kisskiss · 26/08/2021 00:18

I tell my Dh to shower , actually even a few of my friends have told my dh to shower 😂 don’t feel bad about it

Clymene · 26/08/2021 00:34

I clearly have a different idea of 'utterly hideous' to other people.

Person coming into their own home and sitting on their sofa. How bloody dare theyAngryAngryAngry

NannyAndJohn · 26/08/2021 00:36

Are there showering facilities at the football ground he can use?

Either was, I'd expect him clean and dry before he goes anywhere near my furniture!

Christ almighty. Your poor family members
Mybalconyiscracking · 26/08/2021 06:58

I exercise then come home and do housework, gardening whatever and don’t shower until I’m ready to relax. I don’t smell so I don’t think it’s an issue.

InpatientGardener · 26/08/2021 07:02

I agree with you. My DP comes back from Sunday league smelling like a wet dog, dripping with sweat and the one time he sat straight down on the sofa it smelt like vile damp for ages after. But I don't have to tell him to shower straight from football, he just does it. It would piss me off if I had to remind him to wash.

HeronLanyon · 26/08/2021 07:08

Blimey I’d never even herd of walking football (do watch a lot of running/diving football and sky sports so no idea how this passed me by). What a great idea but I can’t imagine for this who can run or ‘trot’ being able to resist even though conceding a free kick)
Anyway Yanbu for not wanting sweaty socks on your sofa.

SimonJT · 26/08/2021 07:13

Hang on, do some people have a shower and change their clothes everytime they have been on a walk? Do any of these people walk to work?

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 26/08/2021 07:27

You guys all know sweat is mainly water right? People can sometimes smell when they sweat, if they aren't very clean, because bacteria thrive in the moisture.its the bacteria causing the smell, if your body is generally clean and you are wearing anti perspirant & choosing breathable wicking clothing, you shouldnt smell bad just due to light sweat.

also not everyone sweats loads. I don't sweat a lot even if I go running, DH doesnt either.

burritofan · 26/08/2021 07:28

Who are all these weird men coming home, stripping off, and luxuriantly wiping their excessively sweaty testicles over soft furnishings? Or are you all just chatting shit…
