AIBU that he does go straight for a shower?

DP came home from walking football an hour ago, had his tea and is lying on the settee with his sweaty socks on the arm of the chair.
I always ask him to go straight to the shower as I find it a bit disgusting, his excuse is that it's walking football and he's not got a sweat on.
I personally get straight in the shower from the gym/outdoor sports as I don't want to inflict my potential stink/bedraggled appearance on anyone else in the house.
So AIBU ?

People seem to be obsessed with showering. Teens seem to want to do it 2 or 3 times a day. I think it's becoming extreme. It's not good for the body to be stripped of its natural oils that much.

Lockheart · 26/08/2021 07:36

@SimonJT

Hang on, do some people have a shower and change their clothes everytime they have been on a walk? Do any of these people walk to work?
Apparently not. Nor do they ever sit on said sofa on a hot day, just in case they slightly perspire onto it.
onelittlefrog · 26/08/2021 07:36

I agree with those saying he's not a child and doesn't need micromanaging.... but if my partner was lounging around smelling of BO with his sweaty socks draped over the chair I wouldn't be happy!

He wouldn't do that though, so I can't really relate tbh!

OP is he actually sweaty/ smelly? You said it was walking football and he didn't work up a sweat - if so then I think YABU. But the socks thing is still kind of gross!

It isnt! And its terrible for the environment too. We should be trying to reduce our water usage, not increase it.

I find it crazy too.
LubaLuca · 26/08/2021 08:20

He's not going to be sweating during the game any more than be would be if he were watching a tense football match or exciting drama on the TV! Perhaps he should have a carrier bag under him at all times.

Ive never met anyone who does this 😳

@Clymene

I clearly have a different idea of 'utterly hideous' to other people.

Person coming into their own home and sitting on their sofa. How bloody dare theyAngryAngryAngry

It's at mank, sorry. To be sweaty and then spread your BO around the house, especially if sitting on a fabric sofa or chair

Clymene · 26/08/2021 12:45

@leonpride - the OP has not said he has BO

God I'm amazed some MNers very manage to procreate with the squeamishness around bodies

GlinnerForPM · 26/08/2021 12:48

My ex used to shower before the gym. Never did work out why Grin

MissyB1 · 26/08/2021 12:51

I doubt he needed a full on shower, but very stinky socks make me feel sick! Could you smell them? I would ask Dh to put the socks in the wash and rinse his feet.

BobMortimersPetOwl · 26/08/2021 12:52

Eh? Why does he need to shower after walking? Do people do that??

emilylily · 26/08/2021 12:53

Assuming his trainers are quite smelly/sweaty then yes I think he should shower. Also depending on where he played the football will have gone through lots of mud (and possibly traces of dog poo) so it would make sense to shower.

Unless he's playing naked and rubbing the ball all over himself, the above makes no sense. I also don't wear my trainers into the shower, but you do you...
TheWeatherWitch · 26/08/2021 13:25

For everyone asking what Walking football is, it’s football where the players don’t run, they walk!

All the clues are there

never heard of it...

must take hours to play 🤣

billyt · 26/08/2021 14:05

I do walking football twice a week and the first thing I do when I get in is have a shower. it's generally during tournaments/festivals that the walking bit is enforced. Your own group do control it but not as much.

And it may be described as walking football but I certainly build a sweat up, as you do manage to get a speed up. (Bit like the walking races you see, not exactly slow).

It's exercise , anyway.

billyt · 26/08/2021 14:13

@QueenBee52. Grin

Our teams are FA controlled. Generally, a Festival (shouldn't really call them Tournaments as that's too competitive[) consists of matches that are 20-30 mins long, sometimes up to eight teams, so anything from 2 - 4 hours. Men and women play, often within the same teams so not treated differently.

Out of festivals then no time restrictions as such.

My sessions on Mondays and Thursdays are an hour each.

Very social as well.

Amz6219 · 26/08/2021 14:19

I wouldn't be bothered about showering, he can go when he wants, but I would tell him to get his sweaty feet off the sofa

@GoodHairDay86

Sorry pp thats grim you don't shower after sweating at the gym, eww you said because its dry by the time you get home dry heave . To the OP I agree with you he needs to shower 🚿
I though I same. The sweat dries so pp doesn't shower... Grim. I wouldn't tell my dp to shower b but I would assume that as a competent adult he wouldn't need telling if it was necessary. Doesnt everyone automatically shower after exercise above a walk?
TrainspottingWelsh · 26/08/2021 20:45

I love how the thread has moved on. OP's dh returned from some light exercise and sat on the sofa. But now he stinks like he's been shovelling cow shit all day, his clothes are dripping sweat and his trainers leaving dog shit on the furniture. At the same time as he rubs his bare sweaty bollocks and reeking feet on the furniture.

Imo it's more a question of how infrequently do people do any meaningful exercise if they think it's practical or necessary to jump in the shower the moment they walk in the door after light exercise.

Smartiepants79 · 26/08/2021 20:53

Get home change his socks if they smell??
Other than that leave him alone, he’ll shower when he’s ready.
It’s highly unlikely that he’s either particularly sweaty, dirty or smelly.
Some people’s level of hysteria about excess hygiene astonishes me.
I don’t shower everyday, I don’t smell and I’m not dirty.
Some of you wouldn’t have coped 70 years ago- one bath a week was common for many!
