AIBU to be upset at review on AirBnB?

This is my first time ever using AirBnB. There was so little available in area we wanted to go , but a property came up. It was an active Church, with 2 camp beds and 2 air beds for the children (aged 11 and 12). No bathroom but a toilet with sink, no cooking facilities or fridge, but a little table was set up with 4 chairs to eat breakfast at. A simple cereal, tea and coffee breakfast was provided. We slept in the Church. On the last day we cleaned the toilet and sink. We washed cups, bowls and spoons we had used and set it all back up, how it was when we arrived. All rubbish was put in a black sack and all recycling put in recycling box, these though we did not know where the bins were despite looking. We don't remember being told where the bins were or where to put rubbish. We were never there during the day, didn't eat there other than breakfast. We didn't make beds the day we left as they would be stripped and washed any way. I smoke, but respected it was a Church and did not smoke anywhere in the grounds, but went out to where my car was parked, smoked there and placed all butts in an empty packet and put in a public bin where ever we went that day, so did not leave any cigarette butts on the grounds even. So, I was shocked to read Hosts review which said
* and her family weren't the tidiest of guests, but they were a very jolly group.'

I don't know what we did wrong, what exactly is expected of us as I can find nothing in Terms and Conditions that says about expectations of how property should be left and my friend was still in the Church to give key back and collect key deposit, so if something bothered them in could have been mentioned then.

I will write a response to the review just not sure yet what to say.

AIBU to be upset at this as I assume other hosts can read this and put them off accepting us in the future, should we use AirBnB again. It has not sat right with me, yet we had a great time and loved the Church and all it's history.pö

YANBU, what twats. I would say most of what you have done here.

They seem to be forgetting that you paid for the pleasure, that you were paying guests.

Lockheart · 21/08/2021 22:45

You are hugely overthinking this. That's not a bad review.

As a host, it would make me think twice. I've accepted guests wirh reviews like that before and regretted it. It actually takes a lot for most hosts to write anything slightly negative in their reviews so this is either an exceptionally sensitive host or OP left much more mess than she realised.
Starjammer · 21/08/2021 22:47

I'd be a bit annoyed too if I had left it as I'd found it. It doesn't sound like there was much to leave untidy.

bagelsandoranges · 21/08/2021 22:51

Perhaps the person arranging it is staunch on bed making and links the unmade beds to general untidiness. A shame and unfair if you were thoughtful and tidy elsewhere, as it makes out as if the place was left a tip. Not very kind.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 21/08/2021 22:57

Have you any other reviews? I think it would be off putting if it was your only one. I have been asked to strip beds in most Airbnb's and put out rubbish. I might have messaged host to ask where the rubbish should go rather than just leave it. Most hosts are happy to answer quick questions or texts. Otherwise it sounds fairly standard form and you've left it as you found it.

Cherrysoup · 21/08/2021 23:07

Every Airbnb I have looked at charges a cleaning fee and service charge, so tbh, although I tidied massively and vacuumed, I didn’t feel I needed to leave the place pristine. Surely the cleaning fee covers any tidying?

3Br1tnee · 21/08/2021 23:17

I think you still come across as slovenly. I mean, who leaves unmade beds? That's just skanky. Make them or strip them. Don't just leave them unmade.

Theythinkitsalloveritisnow · 21/08/2021 23:24

@3Br1tnee why would you make a bed in a holiday rental? They are going to have to change the bedding anyway. I hope Confused

You would like to think so wouldn't you

Don't be ridiculous, why would you make the beds?

Airbnb's always have a cleaning/servicing fee - at our most recent one it was a £70 cleaning fee after a 3 day stay! I'm certainly not stripping beds and cleaning if I'm paying extra for it to be done.

You sound like a bit of a weirdo tbh.

MorriseysGladioli · 21/08/2021 23:36

Surely it's more helpful to leave the beds?

All normal people who know that the bedding is going straight in the wash What is the point to making the beds?
1FootInTheRave · 21/08/2021 23:40

How much mess can you leave a few camp beds, a toilet and a table?

How did you shower?

saraclara · 21/08/2021 23:41

Our last AirBnb actually left instructions that we WEREN'T to make or strip the beds "...it confuses the cleaner"!

The whole AirBnb review thing stresses me (and my somewhat anxious daughter) no end. We end up getting up early and cleaning the place top to bottom, even though we've only been there a couple of nights and paid an extortionate cleaning fee. The thought of getting a review like the one in the OP freaks my DD out.

Veryverycalmnow · 21/08/2021 23:46

No need to make the beds/ put bin bags out. Could you message the snooty owner and ask her really nicely to change it?

Wineat5isfine · 21/08/2021 23:50

I would contact the owner and request an amendment to the review. How silly to say something like that, that could essentially prevent other hosts accepting bookings from you.

godmum56 · 21/08/2021 23:53

an active church? you mean used as a church when not rented out?

OwlinaTree · 21/08/2021 23:55

How did you shower? Was there local facilities you could use?

Dogoodfeelgood · 21/08/2021 23:55

That’s so weird! Leaving beds unmade or stripped is completely standard. As is leaving rubbish tidily unless instructions for where to put it, and even if it was all in bins instead of taking out that hardly warrants an untidy review! I don’t particularly bother about tidying Airbnbs, just wash dishes and chuck out any rubbish, and I’ve never received an untidy review.

callmeadoctor · 22/08/2021 00:01

I am more concerned about why on earth you would stay in what sounds a dump? No bathroom but a sink and toilet? No cooking facilities or fridge? you might as well have bought a tent!

Rosehip10 · 22/08/2021 00:07

Was this an Anglican or Catholic church?

countrytown · 22/08/2021 00:08

🤔

Honestly do you think people say the above to just make a dig or do they genuinely believe it. They truly walk among us! 🥺
