Sorry for posting on here but I’m feeling desperate. Started having diarrhoea on Wednesday night. Passing yellow water now ever 30 minutes but dr not interested unless still had next week. I’m so exhausted. Is this normal? I’m drinking dioralyte to try and keep hydrated. Any tips to help please .

Phone the GP for advice. Get well soon

Are you vomiting as well? Ice lollies are good for rehydration if you can't keep fluids down.

Notagoodtime · 20/08/2021 12:51

Thank you - I did but he wasn’t infested unless I still have symptoms next week ....

You either have a bug or food poisoning - or a reaction to antibiotics?

No food; just lots of water; and immodium (2 initially, then 1 after each loose movement).

I had food poisoning from a chicken sandwich about 15 years ago..... took 6 weeks and 2 courses of antibiotics to sort out. And made me turn vegetarian.

Notagoodtime · 20/08/2021 12:54

Thanks Brillo but I was told but I was told by GP no Imodium

To be honest not sure I've had more than 48 hours non-stop crazy diarrhoea. As you've said, dehydration is the thing to keep on top, as painful as it is, people can happily go without food for weeks if needed. I always tried to eat as little as possible for as long as I could but eventually try to nibble some plain toast or a digestive biscuit. You'll feel wobbly from lack of food but keep an eye on other symptoms - crazy fever or massively erratic pulse. But yeah you have my sympathies!

TabbyStar · 20/08/2021 12:58

I had campylobacter once for a month and was told by the pharmacist and doctor to just hydrate etc. although in the end they diagnosed it and it's a notifiable condition. That was after a sample though.

MrsTulipTattsyrup · 20/08/2021 12:59

I had this with gastroenteritis. Horrendous. GP also advised no Imodium if possible as it was the only way for the body to rid itself of the bug causing the illness. I got her agreement to go for Imodium at the end of day 2. You have all my sympathy, OP.

ViceLikeBlip · 20/08/2021 13:01

Not myself, but I've heard of similar with Delta variant. Please do call GP back and/or 111 if you're worried, it sounds like you're very unwell x

ComtesseDeSpair · 20/08/2021 13:04

I went swimming in a river a couple of months ago (yes, my mum has already told me off!) and must have picked up something because it was a river coming from me at staggeringly shortening intervals for a week afterwards.

Try and get some sugar in the form of ice lollies, and rest up.

Mybalconyiscracking · 20/08/2021 13:11

You might be blocked or just very constipated. If the solid stuff isn’t moving the liquid will get round the sides?

Absoluteweapon · 20/08/2021 13:14

My DH has had the same this week - he went 25 times in two days! Only five times yesterday and seems fine today. He has lost half a stone as well! I must admit I did wonder if it could be COVID.

Lovelydovey · 20/08/2021 13:15

Diarolyte (or other rehydration salts) and lots of them! Don’t worry about food and then eat what you fancy. Keep an eye on how much urine you are passing and any other signs of dehydration - headaches, dizziness, dry mouth/eyes etc.

13579db · 20/08/2021 13:16

Bananas! Seriously

And Imodium - ignore your gp, it works instantly.
Stay in bed, keep drinking water and eating bananas, dry toast, pure apple juice or plain rice.

If it doesn't clear by Sunday, go to A&E
Can also be a covid symptom but don't panic - get the Imodium and the bananas

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 20/08/2021 13:16

I had similar last year, it's recurred twice but not quite as fierce. I thought about the "immodium after every loose movement" but decided it wouldn't be feasible, I'd be taking immodium every hour ...

Brusselsprouts21 · 20/08/2021 13:31

Do not take immodium. Keep drinking and eating little but often. Are you needing the toilet straight after having a drink or eating? It sounds like a bug. I have just recovered from Norovirus and it took me 6 days to get back to normal. Make sure your still passing urine and ring your GP Monday morning if its still the same. Hope it calms down soon for you

bellabasset · 20/08/2021 14:07

The old fashioned cure we used to have was Dr John Collis Browne, which has a warming and comforting sensation. It's still available. My dm's favourite was to give us Lucozade as it replaced sugar.

Mammyloveswine · 20/08/2021 14:13

I had awful diarrhoea when I was pregnant with ds1! Thought the chicken id eaten tasted a little rubbery but then woke up at 5am the next morning with the most horrific stomach cramps and diarrhoea.

Managed to get through the day but we had a fancy meal booked with friends so stupidly went along that night. Was horrific as I was sweating and doubled over with cramps, was desperate for the toilet. Had to go home early.

Continued for 5 days...was just hideous!

Hope you feel better soon op!

Lennon80 · 20/08/2021 14:43

Yes for well over a week. Was some awful food poisoning from chicken. Campylobacter It was called I was so so ill. Crying in pain for days.

NiceTwin · 20/08/2021 14:46

My bil has been like this for 2 weeks, he did have his stools tested but I don't know what the outcome was.
He is exhausted and grumpy and the subject is not up for discussion!!

Twotinydictators · 20/08/2021 14:49

I had it over Christmas, was on the loo constantly, had fever and night sweats too. It did pass after a few days and about a week later I was back to normal. Took a Covid test because of the fever but it was negative. Hope you feel better soon Flowers

Sakura7 · 20/08/2021 14:49

It's been three days, take the Imodium. Whenever I've had diarrhea I've taken it and never had any issues afterwards.

starfishmummy · 20/08/2021 19:10

I've had similar a couple of years ago along with not being able to keep anything down. All my doc did was to prescribe anti sicknees tablets so I could keep drinks and other essential medicine down. Nothing for the diarrhoea.

There was an interesting conversation when I took the stool sample back. I was basically just pooing water at that point and the receptionist said I had made a mistake and they wanted a stool sample not a urine one!! Nope. It was definitely poo!!

LakieLady · 20/08/2021 19:22

Yes, when I had campylobacter. I was also vomitting, had a temperature of 40.5, and felt like I was going to die. After 2-3 days, I was just producing mucous. It was like my arse was sneezing.

After 4 days, I had a telephone appt with the doctor and he asked me to provide a stool sample, which confirmed campylobacter. The results took 3 weeks, by which time I'd fully recovered.
