I’ve heard children speaking in my dds room when she’s the only child, there was no tv etc that could have made the voices

Also a lovely one. When my grandad passed away we had to decide on the funeral music. There were two songs we struggled to choose between. We ended up making a decision.

The song we didn't pick happened to start playing on the radio on the way to his funeral Thanks

When I was very young, under four, we lived in country where there was war. My father was away and my mother was on her own, with me and pregnant with my brother. We lived in a cul de sac with lots of tall trees and it was very dark. My mother woke up one night and the whole house was icy cold and windy, the front door was standing wide open, even though she knew she had locked it. My DM is very paranoid about security so she would not leave it open. She called our elderly Italian neighbour who came over immediately.

We also went on holiday to Singapore when I was a child and my DM really knew her way around despite never having been there before and having an appalling sense of direction.

Also when I was a child about five, we went to stay at my grandparents, eating in the kitchen and I said I didn't want to fetch cutlery from next door as there was a man there, my DM said not to be silly went through to the dining room room and there was an intruder in there going through my grandpa's jacket pockets which was on the back of a chair.

Very interesting. Some “hauntings” occur in properties that are built on old sites, or burial grounds even, where there has been a dwelling/habitation/human activity dating right back to ancient times. It’s possible the spirit or “entity” was even invoked as a guardian of sorts by ancestral humans, and links back to the place as a pose to the property itself. The appearance - of her face being exceptionally old - would suggest she’s been around for some time, and inhabits the area; seemingly appearing when people “trespass” on her territory. Just another possibility. Very fascinating though.

Great thread & just finished reading. I don’t think I’ll be sleeping tonight. Currently awake & had to walk through woods to get to my accommodation. I jumped out of my skin on several occasions!

Boeing777 · 26/08/2021 16:51

Years ago we had neighbours who rented their house out. The tenants were always knocking at our door asking for different things, noisy etc etc. My husband was away on a course and one night as I was laying in bed I heard twice, as clear as day, a voice saying 'it'll be o.k. it'll be o.k.' in my ear.....Next day the neighbours came to say these tenants were moving out....... never forgot that voice

@Historyfan

I fell pregnant with twins but lost twin two at ten weeks It was a high risk pregnancy and I was on red alert all the way through I gave birth to a fine strapping baby and we brought him home All fine What wasn’t is for months after we would hear a baby crying (the sound came from upstairs if we where downstairs and from downstairs if we where in bed) Nobody in our street had a baby so it wasn’t that-if we’d heard it as a one off,we would have put it down to a baby being pushed down the street but it was at least five times a day-we all heard it-it wasn’t me going mad It seemed to stop when he hit 6 months old-I guess we’ll never know what it was
My mother used to say that after my brother died, aged 7, she would 'feel' him take her hand as she lay in bed after Dad had gone to work, climb into the bed and cuddle up to her. It went on for about a year.
JudgeJ · 26/08/2021 17:11

When we lived in a hot country we usually went to sleep with a sheet over us and the blanket folded at the foot of the bed. During the night I was regularly vaguely aware of OH getting up to go to the bathroom and coming back into the room, pulling the blanket up, tucking it round me and patting my shoulder. A couple of years later, after we'd left that flat, this came up in conversation with friends, my OH said, No I didn't, that's what you did!
A few years later we met a couple who it transpired had lived in the same flat, the wife's first words were 'Did you get tucked in every night?', they had had exactly the same experience.

@Pebbles218

I was staying in a hotel in London for one night due to a work trip. In the middle of the night I awoke and was paralysed. It felt like I was being held down. Looking to my right I saw a tall shadow man figure by the door and he slowly started coming towards the bed. I was panicking as I couldn't move as he got towards the bed and closer to my face. I managed to let out a "Nooo" and then it stopped. Never seen him again but it freaked me out as I had never dreamt about my house let alone the hotel room. I was frightened about going to sleep for a few nights after.
This sounds like a classic sleep paralysis hallucination.
peaceanddove · 26/08/2021 18:36

I'm totally non woo usually. But, I have always felt very wary and unnerved in the country lane outside my Auntie's house, but only at night. Not usually scared of the dark at all, happily walk around our house at night with the lights off etc. But there is just something very wrong with that lane at night.

Never told a soul about it, until got chatting to a local taxi driver. He mentioned he could no longer do evening pick ups from a restaurant that was on the same lane as my Auntie's house - said that it gave him the creeps and he hated waiting in his taxi there at night.

Can't be a coincidence surely?

Crabbitcrab · 26/08/2021 22:36

@JudgeJ I need that ghost in my life

BorderlineHappy · 27/08/2021 12:58

I can't be the only one getting up for the toilet during the night and thinking of that thing hanging there

LadyOfLittleLeisure · 27/08/2021 14:08

@Shehasadiamondinthesky my mum used to joke about me seeing/experiencing/saying spooky things as a child. Eventually, in my mid 20s I had a full breakdown and it turns out I have mild psychosis when extremely stressed ...

tubbycustardtummyache · 28/08/2021 14:58

I have loads, may come back to the thread later

A few years ago I was driving home from work after a night shift, I was a bit sleepy and on autopilot. I was in the outside of 2 lanes going round the roundabout outside the hospital when a voice in my head shouted ‘get in the inside lane!’. I was the only one in my lane and there were a couple of cars on the inside but I tucked myself in behind them.
A few seconds later a car came the wrong way round the roundabout at high speed! It is a blind bend and I would definitely have been hit and likely injured. Can’t explain it to this day

DahliaDaisy · 28/08/2021 21:40

When I was around 8 or 9 we were driving across the country through the desert (somewhere in Africa) It really was in the middle of nowhere. It was about 2am and my siblings and I were fast asleep on the back seat of the car. We heard my dad shout out and we all woke up as he was pulling the car over. A round disc like shape was spinning in the sky, the lights were mesmerising and so bright! We stood on the side of the road watching it when suddenly 2 more joined it. They just hovered in the sky spinning and swooping up and down. After around 10 minutes or so they all just disappeared. I know it sounds bonkers but we’ve never been able to explain what we saw.

LyraSilvertongueBelacqua · 28/08/2021 22:30

@Beachmum23 that is terrifying.

SilverOtter · 30/08/2021 13:51

I had a very unpleasant experience last night, although I don’t necessarily think it was paranormal.

I’ve been staying at my mum’s, in what was my old bedroom growing up, and sleeping in a big bed with both my children.
Last night, which was the third night (the first two being entirely uneventful) I had a horrible night. I woke up at midnight and couldn’t get back to sleep, so I went downstairs, made a cuppa and took it back upstairs. I lay there reading for a couple of hours, not very comfy because the children had kind of spread out and I was right on the edge of the bed, so I eventually settled on my side facing the kids with my back to the door.

All of a sudden, I felt the presence of evil behind me. I had an actual physical sensation like fine needles or electricity prickling my back and I started to recite the Lord’s Prayer. After what can only have been a couple of minutes but felt like hours, the oppressive malignant feeling receded. I remember thinking it odd that it didn’t disturb the children or the dog (although she was restless too and did woof many times during the night, I assume because I was disturbing her with my restlessness).

Now, I have experienced sleep paralysis before, and I think this was probably a variant of that. It was different though, in that it recurred three times in the same night (whenever I’ve experienced SP in the past it happens once and very, very infrequently; I think I’ve experienced it about five or six times in my entire life). There was no clear demarcation between the feeling of the ‘presence’ and being awake, it just felt like a long period of wakefulness interspersed with these unpleasant ‘attacks’. It felt like something was attacking or testing me, especially as I had made a comment to my husband earlier about the childrens’ souls being safe because we’d had them baptised that day.

Whether it was just a dream, sleep paralysis or an actual demon, it was bloody terrifying!

LyraSilvertongueBelacqua · 30/08/2021 17:55

@Audit just wow! Did the blackbird seem good or bad to you?

Ironmanrocks · 30/08/2021 23:03

I have had a few weird experiences.

When I was young there was always a presence of some kind - it was a council house so nothing ancient, prob '50's or 60's - we heard someone downstairs in the kitchen quite often, chopping or pottering around. Things went missing on a regular basis. When I was 16 or so, home alone and in the bathroom, I heard some one walk down the stairs from the attic room to where I was. I ran back to my bedroom across the landing but no-one was there. We did a bit of the old automatic writing type stuff there when I was about 13 as well - my window latch jiggled up and down so fast - it really made me jump! It was a funny house. I was never 100% comfortable there. Also 2 separate children talked 'to someone' into the corner of my mum's living room which spooked me out as well!

Babysitting for a friend, I made a cup of tea and walked back into their living room and swear I saw someone with white hair sitting on the sofa. I blinked and they had gone. It was weird as they had recently moved their room around - an arm chair used to be on the left hand side near the window. The window area was always draughty and cold. When they moved the sofa over there, I wonder if it wasn't draughty at all.... The house was extremely old and a bit odd.

My house now is pretty old but I feel safe on the whole.

DDMAC · 30/08/2021 23:10

I have loads.

We lived in a rented house for 5 years before we bought. There was a good looking 😂 man ghost there the entire time we lived there, I mostly saw him upstairs on the landing and during the day when dh was at work and I was there with the kids I’d hear him walking around on the creaky floorboards. He never bothered me I didn’t feel threatened, I tried burning some sage once and the whole ‘go into the light’ thing. Didn’t work.
Anyway, after 5 years we were finally moving out after our landlord decided to put our rent up by an extortionate rate and Mr Ghost was not happy about us moving and made it known. One evening near our move I walked into my sons room to come face to face with him, lol, the one and only time he scared the shit out of me. After we moved, my son who was 7 at the time said, I’m glad we moved that man was so annoying he kept me awake at night! He never told me he had even seen him.
Another time I was doing a college course and we had a 5 day residential in an old convent. I was sharing a room with one of my classmates and one night just as we were going to sleep she asked me, is the door open can you just look, so I looked and said no it’s closed. Next morning she said she asked me to look because she had seen a nun standing there at the door wearing the old fashioned habit and clothes!

My friend above passed away this year unexpectedly, I still can’t believe it and am so tearful when I think of her. Ive been feeling very depressed lately and just very lonely and isolated in general. I hadn’t thought about her for a couple of months but a few weeks ago I felt awful really really awful and I saw to dh about how terrible I felt and that I have no friends, No one to go for a coffee with or just ring up to chat.
I rarely tell him because he doesn’t seem to listen half the time anyway. Anyway I went to bed and the doorbell in my dream rang and there was my friend at the door saying I thought we could spend the day together, go for a walk and some lunch. It was the most vivid and special dream I’ve ever had, felt like she was letting me know that she’s here with me.

Doing the same course I stayed over in an old hotel once and the moment I walked in I felt as though someone was watching me it was bizarre. Anyway I had a terrible night sleep in the room, there was a nightclub literally across the way so that was pumping til 3am but when I finally got to sleep I awoke to something/someone rubbing my back! I was terrified, just kept my eyes closed waiting for whatever it was to go away.

I’ve also seen DH’s father who passed away very young. My son is called after him and one day while we were playing outside I called my son and I saw my fil run down the path. I also saw him another time, he looks after the children which was very much his nature from what I’ve been told

Some lovely stories here.

My friend bought an old property think 400 plus years in a castle town. Ground floor a shop above a big flat they lived there while doing up a house she had some weird experiences her OH who is not woo was freaked out a couple of times by sounds, shadows etc it's been an Airbnb for a few years now, no-one has said anything about the ghosts but others in the town have known that it was haunted

NC for this as I've told these accounts many times to friends and colleagues and don't want to be linked back to my previous posts.

Three things have happened to me that I just can't explain:

  1. I used to work in a private hospital that had previously been run by nuns. There were still some nuns who would visit elderly patients who were staying for respite so it wasn't unusual to see them. One day I was going to see a patient in the last room at the end of the corridor but I saw a nun go in just ahead of me. I gave it 5 minutes as I didn't want to disturb them in case they were praying together but there was no sign of the nun leaving. After another few minutes I knocked the patient's door and walked in. There was no sign of the nun and the patient was in their own in bed watching TV. The nun would have had to have walked past me had she left. There was no other way out.

  2. Same hospital. I saw what appeared to be a new member of housekeeping staff in the corridor standing next to the cleaning cart but she appeared to be wearing a different uniform than the others in that team. I assumed that because she was new they didn't have the standard issue one ready for her and she had worn her own. I smiled at her but she looked straight through me ignoring me, which I thought was pretty rude. Afterwards, I saw the housekeeping team leader and mentioned to her that her new colleague was a bit ignorant only to be told that they didn't have any new staff but that I had described a discontinued uniform that had been worn decades earlier.

  3. In my current job I work in an old building that had previously been an Abbey in the late 18th century and is full of Gothic architecture. It is reputedly haunted and even the security team go in there in twos because it is extremely creepy. One evening I was working late and was in the section on my own. As I was leaving I turned all the lights out behind me but when I got outside and looked back every single light was blazing, including rooms that I had not been using. I thought I was going mad, or that someone else had been there after all, so I went back in, called out, checked every room (definitely no-one else there) and turned all of the lights back out. After stepping outside for a second time I looked up at the building and every light was on again. Safe to say I didn't go back in!!
