Mysterious soup

This morning I decided to clean out the kitchen cupboards.
In one of the corner base units, I tend to keep a small store of tinned and jar foodstuff.
So, after pulling everything out, including god knows how many random Tupperware lids which have clearly mated and multiplied at the back, I came across a tin of marks and Spencer chicken soup.
Now this has confused me because I never go to M&S and I hate chicken soup.
So, how the heck did it manage to sneak in and hide amongst tins of corned beef and jars of sauce?
There's only me and the dog here!
Now unless the dog has managed to leap over a six foot fence, sneak into my neighbours cupboard and emerge victorious with the tin between his teeth, to leap back over the fence and stash it in my cupboard, then it's a complete mystery!
Help.

I've lived here almost 8 years, definitely wasn't there when I bought the place.
The tin looks fairly new, as in there's no rust or tatty label.
I never thought about a refugee living in my shed.....however, I don't have a shed, and if they could manage to squeeze through all the junk in the garage, I'll give them a medal.....along with the soup.

Do you like alone @OhGiveUp?

poorbuthappy · 18/08/2021 14:20

@OhGiveUp - much appreciated. Grin

Gimlisaxe · 18/08/2021 14:25

Do you shop with Ocado?

herewegoagainst · 18/08/2021 14:29

Did you grab it at a airport/train station/service station/hospital? They're the only places I bother grabbing food bits at M&S!

@Gimlisaxe

Do you shop with Ocado?
I was just coming on to suggest Ocado too. They now stock M&S food so could be a sub that you didn't notice.
pigsDOfly · 18/08/2021 14:34

Looks like it's down to the dogs then.

pigsDOfly · 18/08/2021 14:34

Dog, not dogs

OhGiveUp · 18/08/2021 14:36

I live alone mostly as DH lives and works in a different country and only comes home a couple of times a year.
He hates chicken soup too, so not him.
The dog is looking increasingly suspect.

Summer fete tombola. It's the only answer.

Or did your NDN swap it with you last year when they were short of pasta or flour?

DumplingsAndStew · 18/08/2021 14:55

Your DH bought it on one of his times home. He picked up chicken by accident, so bunged it in the cupboard. He wanted tomato.

The title of this thread reminds me of suspicious stew in Minecraft.

Ormally · 18/08/2021 14:58

A Terry Pratchett theory, from 'Eric':
"… Raw matter is continually flowing into the universe in fairly developed forms, popping into existence normally in ashtrays, vases and glove compartments. It chooses its shape to allay suspicion, and common manifestations are paperclips, the pins out of shirt packaging, the little keys for central heating radiators, marbles, bits of crayon, mysterious sections of herb-chopping devices and old Kate Bush albums."

I suspect it's one of the larger, bulkier manifestations of this. Interesting.

I was hoping this was a follow up to Peter Andre's 'mysterious girl'..but the opening lyrics are disappointing, to say the least Grin

I’ve had that sort of thing before, @OhGiveUp - it’s turned out to be hurried grocery picking in a delivery.

You know, when you’ve asked for 4 tins of tomatoes and they send you 3 tins of tomatoes and a tin of beans that were next to it on the shelf and they were grabbing 4 tins and not noticing one was the next item along.

Most common with wine - Marlbec and Merlot are on the shelves next to one another. I order 3 Malbec, get 2 and a Merlot (which we don’t like) but am charged for 3 Malbec because they only scan it as “first item x3”. But also a fair few tinned items too.

OhGiveUp · 18/08/2021 15:30

Hmm, I'm narrowing it down to a rogue delivery driver whose moonlighting with M&S.
A suspect dog.
A suspect neighbour.

And a suspect DH.

@AlfonsoTheMango

Perhaps it's a sign from a recently deceased loved one, telling you that all is well.

OhGiveUp · 18/08/2021 15:48

@Dworky if it's from my grandmother, she would have bounced it off my bonce rather than hide it in the cupboard. She loathed chicken. 😬

Have you been to the food bank?

Loyaultemelie · 18/08/2021 15:56

It's my Dd1s she adores both M&S and chicken soup (I'm fairly sure she's someone's granny hiding in the body of an 11 year old) she knows none of us like either so she hid it in your cupboard.

OhGiveUp · 18/08/2021 16:03

@Besswess88 No, I'm very fortunate that I've never needed to use a food bank. However, I will donate it to the collection box the next time I go to the supermarket.
@Loyaultemelie she's welcome to collect it when she wants it.

Obviously your DH has a problem and is actually addicted to chicken soup. Thats why he says he doesn't like it, but is secretly stashing it around the house to deflect suspicion.
I bet once he's run out of money having the good stuff from M&S he has to resort to the Aldi version.
There may be soup support group near you, but I'd consider counselling or obviously LTB.
Or it could be the dog/phrogger etc

Looubylou · 18/08/2021 19:08

Just give it to the dog
