Very very stupid mask wearing restrictions (Scotland)

So we went to the pub yesterday. You wore a mask on the way in but if you are sitting (no social distancing) you don't have to wear one. You order at the bar and have to wear the mask to order but if you chose to drink at the bar you don't need to wear a mask. Where is the sense in this. I could go clubbing with hundreds of others with no mask, go to a football match with no mask but if I want to order a drink I need a mask - where is the sense?

Fuck knows

Some of it makes sense, some of it really doesn't. Masks in the playground does my head in, can't hear anyone, they can't hear me.

Can't we keep these repetitive threads asking the same question to the dedicated covid board?

I was in a couple of pubs in Scotland yesterday. Hardly anyone seemed to be bothering with masks at all. It is getting a bit ridiculous now with all these daft exceptions. You can dance with hundreds of strangers in a nightclub with no mask on but you have to wear one to order a drink. Lunacy. They just need to get rid of them altogether now.

If you're sitting down vulnerable or anxious people can position themselves facing away.

If you're stood at the bar drinking vulnerable or anxious people can keep their distance.

Vulnerable or anxious people can't avoid everyone walking around indoors.

guinnessguzzler · 15/08/2021 17:44

Thanks @DoucheCanoe, I hadn't thought of it that way. Makes it make a bit more sense.

LagunaBubbles · 15/08/2021 17:48

Go make a pro snp thread then

Why would I want to do that?

Nicknacky · 15/08/2021 17:51

I was in a beer garden a couple of weeks ago and we got yelled at as soon as we stood up if we didn’t have a mask on. Outside.

I started to walk across the garden and putt my mask on as I headed toward the door and as I hadn’t yet pulled it up to my nose I got yelled at. I was outside near no one.

It was bizarre

GintyMcGinty · 15/08/2021 17:58

It allows The Chief Mammy to kid on she really cares by doing things slightly differently the wicked and evil Boris.

Sense has feck all to do with it.

If you're not happy at an 'anti snp' thread, then don't read one and go make or read a supportive one.

I thought it was pretty obvious? Confused

perfectasalways · 15/08/2021 18:21

LagunaBubbles I didn't take offence - I think wee Nic Nic is either a genius with visions of the future or a complete control freak. DoucheCanoe that doesn't really wash with me, if you are so anxious don't go to a busy pub in the first place. We can't all wear masks forever because some people are anxious.

It makes no sense if you go to a cafe you can be as close as you like with no masks once seated go to a church you need masks on even while seated, you can't have tea or coffee after the service unless it is brought to you where you are seated and you still technically need to sit in household groups because a week after 9th August there is still no updated advise for churches mosques or synagogues you can share bread in a cafe but not in church at communion even though both do tracking.

If you hold a bible study or a counselling session in the church building you get contact details and wear masks if you hold exactly the same meeting in a church members house you don't take details (presumably you would know them) you can sit as close together as you like with no masks and pass the coffee and biscuits round just as you please the whole thing is beyond ridiculous it can't possibly be scientific

StoneofDestiny · 15/08/2021 18:27

Well, in England it's no better - why do you think it is? It's a mess of confusion and while people are being told to isolate if in contact with a Covid Positive person, the odious Boris and his chums decide they won't.

MaMelon · 15/08/2021 18:27

There is no sense whatsoever in it - but she has to be seen to be doing something slightly different from Boris and that keeps her supporters happy.

titsintiers · 15/08/2021 18:30

Completely illogical, common sense has copied Elvis and left the building.

StoneofDestiny · 15/08/2021 18:32

Not true, as First Minister she takes decisions for Scotland without reference to Johnson.
Many of us wish Johnson had taken better decisions throughout this crisis and more lives could have been saved.

If you genuinely believe that she doesn’t pay any attention to Johnson’s decisions then you are deluded. She has been responsible at times for the highest rates in the UK - many lives could have been saved here too had she taken better decisions.

DoucheCanoe · 15/08/2021 18:40

@perfectasalways it really doesn't matter if it "washes with you".

I notice that you dismiss those with mental health issues but not those who are clinically vulnerable. Should they not dare to go anywhere either to avoid your inconvenience?

GoldenOmber · 15/08/2021 18:42

Current wedding rules, too:

  • don’t need a mask when at the reception if you’re walking round with a drink or if you’re dancing
  • do need a mask when you’re sat down silently for the service.
🤷‍♀️
Thingsthatgo · 15/08/2021 18:44

Maybe to protect the bar staff? They will have to be face to face with a lot of people who have been drinking. The likelihood is that customers will sit with the same group of people all evening, but the bar staff will be in contact with everyone.

Clydesider · 15/08/2021 18:47

Scotland is a laughing stock. Sturgeon will do anything just to be contrary and different to England. None of it makes sense to me. YANBU, OP.

wasthataburp · 15/08/2021 18:48

It's fucking ridiculous. I've just been on a weekend away in Edinburgh and didn't wear a mask once. It's absolutely insane these rules

newnortherner111 · 15/08/2021 18:49

Consideration for those who work behind the bar, who come into contact with more people than you do sat at a table. Or than you are sat near to watching a sporting event. Reduces the chance if they are asymptomatic of giving the virus to you and others, and vice-versa.
