Very very stupid mask wearing restrictions (Scotland)

So we went to the pub yesterday. You wore a mask on the way in but if you are sitting (no social distancing) you don't have to wear one. You order at the bar and have to wear the mask to order but if you chose to drink at the bar you don't need to wear a mask. Where is the sense in this. I could go clubbing with hundreds of others with no mask, go to a football match with no mask but if I want to order a drink I need a mask - where is the sense?

Wearing masks a certain percentage of the time limits the spread. SAGE recommend how and when masks should be worn to acheive that percentage.

Go on, show us the document where SAGE gave the percentage reduction in population spread for “masks on while ordering at the bar but not when drinking at the bar.”

Well, couple of examples of how contagious the Delta variant is spring to mind.

In Texas in April there was an outside wedding where six fully vaccinated people contracted the Delta variant. So a beeer green could be similar.

Also in Australia there was a case where some people passed each other in an indoor shopping centre whilst massless. They overlapped physically by around 5-10 seconds and the Delta variant was transmitted between them. So even with very brief proximity it’s possible for the virus to be transmitted if someone inhaled just as someone exhales, especially when people are moving as they tend to inhale and exhale more deeply due to the exertion.

And the more transmission, even if it results in mild cases in vaccinated people, the more opportunity for mutation and vaccine escape. In which case we are back several steps and possibly all the way to square one.
