nancydroo · 12/08/2021 21:11

Hot water form kettle. But don't do that if that's at all dangerous because I don't know about these things really

There is a food drain part? 😬 if I spill dishwasher salt I just run a rinse but I clearly have no idea how dishwashers work after read this…

Fiddliestofsticks · 12/08/2021 21:16

Food drain? What magic dishwasher do you have?

Do you mean the filter bit which catches/stops food from going down the drain when they water is emptied?

Just clean the filter. Take it out, put it in the rack and run a rinse cycle.

dementedpixie · 12/08/2021 21:16

Do you mean the filter?
Can you scoop it out and then pour some warm water in to dissolve the rest?

Yesitsbess · 12/08/2021 21:16

Run a cycle or two with it empty. It's...salt.

ArthurApples · 12/08/2021 21:21

Lift the removable filter basket out, might need a twist, they come out for cleaning, you can empty it. Or just put a wash on, it'll dissolve.

scrivette · 12/08/2021 21:22

Is there much? I dropped some in the bottom
Of the dishwasher yesterday and just left it, it's not there now so presumably it dissolved during the wash.

Reallyreallyborednow · 12/08/2021 21:23

What’s the “food drain part”?

It’s salt. Run a rinse and it will wash away.

LemonSwan · 12/08/2021 21:24

Yes this! Dp took the food catcher out and poured salt to the top! Been scooping it out. But it wont drain away when I pour water in.

Is the drain a pump and only 'drains' when its on?

StarDrawers · 12/08/2021 21:24

Can you take the filter out carefully?

LemonSwan · 12/08/2021 21:25

Or is it supposed to free drain IYSWIM.

Just trying to work out if I put a cycle on will I flood the kitchen

StarDrawers · 12/08/2021 21:25

Why did he do that? Is it a new dishwasher?

LemonSwan · 12/08/2021 21:25

Yes it was out at the time of salt filling!

Lol not new but DP was is new to assigned 'fill salt' job and he didnt bother to youtube it.

Oh I see. That filter is to stop large bits going down and blocking it up. Have you tried dissolving it with hot water?

LemonSwan · 12/08/2021 21:28

Yes I have tried hot water Stars but then it just fills with water and its not draining and so I am wondering is it not draining because its not supposed to drain when off. Or is it fucked?!

OP posts:
Fiddliestofsticks · 12/08/2021 21:29

Just slowly pour hot water down to give it time to dissolve.

StarDrawers · 12/08/2021 21:31

Got you. I'd leave it for the salt to dissolve and maybe stir it to help it along a bit?

ButterflyAway · 12/08/2021 21:34

Mine only drained when on, don’t worry! Stick it on for a cycle

Fiddliestofsticks · 12/08/2021 21:34

If he has filled it then it'll have filled down until there is a bend in the pipe, so that a lot of salt. It's like a blocked pipe now. Will take time to clear so scoop out as much as possible and then hot water and stir as far down as you can.

Fiddliestofsticks · 12/08/2021 21:35

Ooh. If others are not draining while switched off that that could be it!
Try a cycle. Be on standby if water starts to come out of the door.

Agreed, it needs to dissolve as much as possible before you* try running it. The aim is to get as much out and as many lumps out as you can.

That would be like trying to drain it full of rice though.. its going to be awful. I'd wait and stir it and try and scoop as much as you can out. Then run it.
