Me and DH

magsbagsfags · 04/08/2021 22:21

Why do people say it?

If you remove DH from the equation...you wouldn't say "me went".

Is it "Me and DH went to the cinema...."? No!

Because it is not "Me went to the cinema...." it sounds awful! So does "me and DH"

it is "I went to the cinema...". Therefore it is "DH and I went to the cinema".

Thank you for the grammar lesson 😀

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 04/08/2021 22:38

Grin thats how I was taught when to use I or me.

magsbagsfags · 04/08/2021 22:46

@MrsFin sorry 😞

Very grumpy tonight! Regretted starting the thread as soon as I hit post! 😂

Still better than 'myself and DH'.

Neondisco · 04/08/2021 22:52

It's how people speak. Get over it.

You know perfectly well what it means.

Mrstamborineman · 04/08/2021 22:53

Oh dh and myself Hmm

MrsFin · 04/08/2021 22:53

I agree with you though.
I don't understand
a) why people don't want to speak correctly
and
b) why people can't learn the rules of grammar. They aren't difficult.

budgun · 04/08/2021 22:55

I wouldn't know what to say. I have never been to the cinema with DH Grin

Clydesider · 04/08/2021 22:55

I'm sure I read somewhere recently that it's the right way!

ThinWomansBrain · 04/08/2021 23:00

I usually go to the cinema alone.

DroopyClematis · 04/08/2021 23:00

It annoys me as we teach children the correct way yet , when they get it wrong , we get told that it's how their parents say it.

You can't tell them that their parents are wrong but the children are assessed on the correct use of language.

It's not dialect , it's laziness.

FayeFayeFayeFayeFaye · 04/08/2021 23:02

That’s how I learnt it too.

‘Myself’ is worse though.

LawnFever · 04/08/2021 23:04

Well that’s 30 seconds of my life I’ll never get back, bet you’re a scream at parties Grin

I think you can tell them that their parents are wrong, whilst also telling them to teach their parents the correct way 😁
Notimeforaname · 04/08/2021 23:07

Oh I hate 'myself' I received an email for a job interview last week, from the head of the department
''Are you available for a video call with myself and Anne?'' Hmm

Yes I'm available for a call with yourselfConfusedGrin

Gooseberrypies · 04/08/2021 23:17

Who fucking cares?

ShiningGonnaShine · 04/08/2021 23:17

I actually get more annoyed when people think they're being clever and saying it the right way when they say 'and I' but they've actually got it wrong. For eg 'would you like to come with mum and I?' or 'come and see my friend and I'. Both should be 'me'.
People saying 'me and DH went to the cinema' doesn't annoy me half as much, even though it's equally wrong.

DewDew83 · 04/08/2021 23:21

Some people aren't that concerned with good grammar (see, for example, your OP).

ClareBlue · 04/08/2021 23:25

Language has always evolved and the rate it is currently evolving is unprecedented due to the common use of electronic communication. The established rules are under pressure and this is definitely one under serious pressure. The rule quoted is not actually accepted by many and very soon you will be in a minority who think it should. Correcting this now actually reflects badly on yourself in many people's view. Grammar is increasingly seen as an anarchism and the tide isn't going to turn on this.

ClareBlue · 04/08/2021 23:27

And the OP must be the worst grammatical post critising grammar ever written.

TopBlogger · 04/08/2021 23:28

@Gooseberrypies

Who fucking cares?
Why bother posting if that is your attitude? Weird
Meraas · 04/08/2021 23:29

Me and myself hate this spag pedantry. You need to live, laugh, love more.

I know someone who does this! She'll snipe at other people's grammar as well, it really irritates me.
Sillysuzie · 04/08/2021 23:30

My want to tell you me don't care it's just words 😂😂😂

Delicatesubjectsadly · 04/08/2021 23:30

Be more bothered about why people write full words for everything else on here but feel the need to write DH instead of husband. Etc.
