Toilets are for paying customers only?!

I ordered myself a nice brunch at this cafe nearby.

Lovely food. I went up to pay after I'd finished and then asked if I could use their loo before I left?

I was told 'Sorry, toilets are for paying customers only'. I said I just ate a meal here and paid? He said 'Sorry, if you want to use the toilet you'll have to buy something else and then go'

I ordered a can of drink because I was bloody bursting and couldn't wait to faff!

AIBU to think this is unacceptable customer service? I had already paid for a meal! Same bloke that I paid the meal for, I asked for the loo with him so he knows I had eaten here already

So if you’d gone to the loo literally just before paying it would have been fine but literally just after and it’s no longer ok? He’s a twat.

I would have assumed he was joking and just taken myself off to the toilet. Or did you have to go past him to get to it? That is seriously odd. I would be leaving a negative review and not going back.

We have paid a couple of times over the years and got a couple of seconds down the road when one of us needed the loo and went back and used it. Even though we have left their premises and I was a couple of shops away it wasn't an issue.

Did you have to get past him to get to the toilet? Just wondering why you had to ask him if you could use it? I wouldn't usually ask a member of staff if I could use the toilet in a cafe, I'd just go.

Or was it a turn of phrase thing, did you ask can I use the toilet i.e asking his permission. When you actually meant where is the toilet i.e you knew you were going to use use, not asking permission, only asking it's whereabouts.

Either way he was being a dumbass, I'd have asked to speak with the manager after I'd used the facilities.

I would be leaving a google review of my experience.

Very odd, I'd assume it was a misunderstanding on their part, that they thought you were making it up or the person was really new to the job and a bit unsure. I'd have just showed them my receipt if I had one.

Was that the owner or staff member? Tbh I wouldn't even have asked - I'd have just paid and used the loo!

Lots of places give you a code with your receipt to stop people just going in for the loo, especially in tourist places, but that sounds bonkers and I'd definitely complain. Loudly and immediately.

complain.....I would have said its quite usual for people to either use the loo before they order or to want to use it as they are leaving. Did you have to ask to use it? I mean are they kept locked or something?

Give him a bad review. I'd have used the loo anyway.
