To want an Emily Campbell appreciation thread?

Emily Campbell is the first woman weightlifter from the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team to win an Olympic medal. She's a 27 year old from Nottingham who doesn't get funding, and first picked up a kettle bell 5 years ago and she got a silver medal at the Olympics. (She's also offering hope and athletic potentiality to all women who can't fit into a size 10).

Am I being unreasonable to just want a thread that shines a wee bit of light on her wonderful achievement and leaves the rest of the noise in the shade for a minute? I don't want her achievements to be eclipsed by the actions or inactions of others.

Who agrees we should have an Emily Campbell appreciation thread?

So sad that the achievements of 3 women are overshadowed by LH

Congratulations to Emily, what a wonderful achievement. I just watched her absolutely lovely and very proud mum and sister being interviewed on the beeb and I had a wee teary moment.

And I don't usually like the Olympics that much!

I’m in, OP. Just watched her and thought wow, what a woman, what a bloody fabulous achievement and what an absolutely amazing role model she is.

Another medal winning woman who has had to fund her own way. Perhaps there will be more funding in women’s sport after this.

@Staffholidayclubrep So true. The track BMX medal winner was incredible and she needed to use GoFundMe to get there. And she brought home a gold medal. Amazing young woman!

Emily was amazing! A Stirling and exceptional performance. When you think the woman who came.forst posted 2 Olympic records, you just know the competition was a tough one.
