To want an Emily Campbell appreciation thread?

Badgertadger · 02/08/2021 21:20

Emily Campbell is the first woman weightlifter from the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team to win an Olympic medal. She's a 27 year old from Nottingham who doesn't get funding, and first picked up a kettle bell 5 years ago and she got a silver medal at the Olympics. (She's also offering hope and athletic potentiality to all women who can't fit into a size 10).

Am I being unreasonable to just want a thread that shines a wee bit of light on her wonderful achievement and leaves the rest of the noise in the shade for a minute? I don't want her achievements to be eclipsed by the actions or inactions of others.

Who agrees we should have an Emily Campbell appreciation thread?

Absolutely! She's fantastic!

DramaAlpaca · 02/08/2021 22:00

She was amazing. Well done Emily!

InTheMiddle23 · 02/08/2021 22:00

It's a crazy achievement when you think about just how heavy those weights are. Most people would struggle to deadlift their own body weight let alone get it above their head.

LizzieSiddal · 02/08/2021 22:01

Just watching ITV news and Emily is in the headlines, where she deserves to be!

QualityMarguerite · 02/08/2021 22:14

Amazing woman. Brilliant performance:)

There was another Brit who might have been there too were it not for the shit show of funding.

gillybombilly · 02/08/2021 22:15

LazyDaisy22 · 02/08/2021 22:18

Well done Emily! Just watched the BBC highlights and interview with her family. They were so proud. Amazing achievement

Wheretobuy · 02/08/2021 22:20

I am in awe of her strength!
(And gosh she has a hunk of husband)….major envy GrinEnvy

SpindleWhorl · 02/08/2021 22:20

The BBC news just also briefly interviewed the special advisor to the IOC, the one who recommended the bonkers testosterone policy, coming across as really weird.

So I guess the BBC did sport a favour there in way.

Comtesse · 02/08/2021 22:24

Cannot believe she only started weightlifting seriously 5 years ago - that’s incredible Star

AndJonnyBrownleeDancing · 02/08/2021 22:27

Agreed, in absolute awe of her lifting abilities, in fact off to change my name. She was amazing.

AndEmilyCampbellDancing · 02/08/2021 22:31

You were ace Emily.

Clymene · 02/08/2021 22:32

She is bloody awesome.

Actually I think we should have a thread to celebrate all our brilliant women Olympians. There have been so many so far and I'm sure more to come.

This has been an absolutely stunning Games for women's team GB
