To really wish posters would stop using ‘naice’

It was amusing many years ago when it was first used but now it’s just so old and a little bit lame.

Oh yes 'you do you' that can go in the bin. it means 'Do what you like I don't give a shit and I'm not discussing further'.

I am sad that the shopping list threads are no more, they used to be entertaining. I guess the mood has changed.

I've seen 'you do you' a couple of times on here and didn't realise it was a thing. I assumed it meant it was up to 'you' to decide what to do but not nasty.

At the end of the day, it is what it is Wink.

ChunkySloth · 03/08/2021 10:35

I think I'm going to have vair naice picky bits for supper tonight.

MrsClatterbuck · 03/08/2021 10:36

It only appears sporadically but I hate when someone gets referred to as a "good egg"
To me it's up there with horrid and jolly hockeysticks. Have never ever heard it in real life.

ChunkySloth · 03/08/2021 10:36

My supper is going to be super.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 03/08/2021 10:38

Smile isn’t passive aggressive unless there is a shitey comment before it or a HTH.

There are a few around here who do that. A smile doesn’t make waspish words benign.

Nor does it entitle them to say they were joking when they point out the smile use.

I shall still be using it in the spirit of MN.

Which incidentally is just a euphemism for bunfight.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 03/08/2021 10:39

when MN use it for the deletion message

Roystonv · 03/08/2021 10:46

To me naice describes very well a fact accepted by most if not all women. If you are buying ham for the kids packed lunches you buy everyday cheap thin watery ham - it does the job. If you are having people round etc you buy good quality ham. So to me naice means good quality/a treat and is very useful when used in this context. It helps other mns assess the situation before replying. Not derogatory or showing off at all.

Its awful, I agree. Can't stand 'vair' either. Also all the 'D' this, that and the other. Just say my H, my S, my SD etc.
Yes - particularly when they're in threads that are complaining about how horrible they are, so why add the 'D' when they're clearly not 'D' to you!
Username91 · 03/08/2021 11:03

Oh god I hate it! That and all the ‘hilarious’ jokes about washing left out overnight. Mumsnet can be so brilliant with great advice, support and thought provoking conversations but then stuff like that is just tragic. Also find people who bang on about people having no posting history really irritating, like it’s some exclusive club and if you don’t know about penis beaker you’re an outsider.

Sparklingbrook · 03/08/2021 11:07

The whole world knows about Penis Beaker! Biggest load of made up old cobblers ever.

HPLikecraft · 03/08/2021 11:29

On that note, haven't seen anyone do the head tilt in a while
Nor a "tinkly little laugh*, Thank god, on both counts.

And "boils my piss" is repulsive and nonsensical.

The screaming about spiders is irritating, I agree with a PP; especially when accompanied by an urgent request that there be a warning in the title if a picture or even just the mention of a spider or insect features in the OP. Makes me wonder how some people get through life, frankly.

Geamhradh · 03/08/2021 11:38

The Gordon Brown + biscuit thing was because another "hilarious" MN thing was that during webchats, someone would derail any decent conversation and ask the sleb what sort of biscuits they liked. GB had the temerity to not answer "properly" (probably thinking "I thought I was here to talk about the election, and funding cuts, and the EU and here are a bunch of housewives asking me about digestives") He had the piss taken out of him for "not playing along" and the biscuit came to mean "I have nothing to add to this frankly ridiculous discussion" hence putting the biscuit on clearly goadyfuckery threads etc.

I do agree "have my first" isn't going into any compilation of great witty and original sayings any time soon.

I'm going to add a personal FFS one. "it gets me every time". Usually on "what's the saddest song in the whole wide world" threads. Half the thread is taken up with posters going "X", "Y" gets me every time" I just imagine Catherine Tate saying it in a teenager gormless voice. I don't believe half of MN pause with their shopping trolley to sob every time the latest Coldplay track comes on. Unless it's with sheer tedium obvs.

I once did a Halloween themed illustration of a part human, part spider monster. It wasn't very scary, or enormously spider like (I'm scared of spiders, so couldn't bring myself to look at source photos 😂) but when I posted it on social media I had a message from someone telling me they'd blocked me because of how scared they were by it. Did wonder how they coped in real life.

What about the posters whose lives are so meaningless they cry proper tears if they don't watch Strictly on the night it's shown and someone dares start a thread? Hello!!! The winner has been announced! If you can't be arsed to watch it at the time, or you're going to actually cry if you find out the result first, then stay the fuck off the internet till you can watch it. (amazing too how all of these sobbers and "well thank you OP for ruining my life to tell me the bloke from Hollyoaks won" always turn out to be important transplant surgeons on call during the show rather than just being normal telly viewers who watched the other side (so interested were they in the final)

I once had the temerity to suggest that people who didn’t want to see who’d won Bake-Off probably shouldn’t have followed the page on Facebook and then logged straight onto the internet. I got ranted at by some woman crying, ‘I am a NURSE. I have ONE break a day, and you’re begrudging me a bit of time online when I’ve been busy saving lives?’ I suggested that maybe she could go mad and NOT spend her entire break looking online when there were going to be spoilers everywhere; that perhaps reading a book might be a more realistic alternative than expecting Channel 4 to ignore their biggest event of the year in case a bored nurse saw it. She didn’t seem keen…

Rubyupbeat · 03/08/2021 12:24

OP.....thank you. I keep wanting to post the same. It's a bloody stupid word and usually used by posters trying to be boastful.

Ilovemypantry · 03/08/2021 12:43

@lllllllllll

How can it be shorthand when there’s more letters in “naice” than in “nice”?

@Ilovemypantry naice isn’t shorthand for nice. It has a different meaning.

I replied to @SW1amp who stated that “naice” was shorthand for “nice”.
Sparklingbrook · 03/08/2021 13:00

I don't see how it's boastful. Confused i always thought 'naice' was tongue in cheek TBH.
I wouldn't take anyone posting something as 'naice' seriously. I always thought it was the difference between some nice ham off the Deli versus prepacked luncheon meat or something.

That said i haven't seen it lately about anything. I must be on the wrong threads.

QueenBee52 · 03/08/2021 13:02

I thought it was a typo 🤣

SW1amp · 03/08/2021 13:06

@Ilovemypantry

No, I didn't say it was shorthand for nice!
I said it is a useful shorthand, because I know what someone means when they describe something as 'naice' rather than 'nice'

To me, 'Naice' is shorthand for 'a bit more affected/special than normal. Not just nice, but fancy-nice, but not over the top'
Whether it is describing biscuits or hotels or towns and lunch, it sums up it up

I have no idea what penis beaker is. It took me a while and a lot of trawling through threads to work out "cancel the cheque" 😂 (mental note to self to get a life .....)

Sparklingbrook · 03/08/2021 13:29

@feelingmehtoday it's in Classics unbelievably. But i really wouldn't bother. Grin
