To really wish posters would stop using ‘naice’

It was amusing many years ago when it was first used but now it’s just so old and a little bit lame.

OP posts:

I like naice and also parking thread diagrams. Parking thread diagrams always cheer me up, like a running joke in a sitcom.

What I hate is the expression 'as fuck'. I see it a lot on here and suppose it must be used in real life. But I've never heard it, despite having some very sweary friends and family. It's awful!

HPLikecraft · 04/08/2021 09:11

For them being ‘darked on’ meant that washing that was dry would get damp at dusk, and give them a problem about where to hang it, so it should be taken in

Yes, that's the exact reason to bring the washing in of course, but the thread was full of posters who had no idea about this, thought there was no need to bring washing in, and so presumed a completely different meaning to it, i.e. that it was a silly word given to a pointless action done by daft people. (I was on that thread when it was 'live') And thereafter were adding all their own "hilarious" reasons to bring the washing in, and much "howling" and spitting out of tea ensued. Hmm
Your mum and her friend sound like sensible women to me.

No idea why that thread had such enduring influence!

HPLikecraft · 04/08/2021 09:14

@WingingItSince1973

'Give your head a wobble' absolutely detest that saying. Just makes me cringe.
That along with the horrific "wind your neck in"

It makes me think of a neck like a fishing line with the head being wound in with a spool, and always makes me queasy.
It's always used in such a sneery way, too.

DrSbaitso · 04/08/2021 09:17

I think "wind your neck in" and "give your head a wobble" might be regional.

HPLikecraft · 04/08/2021 09:17

While I'm on a roll here, the even more horrific "much?" e.g. "jealous much?"

Again it's always sneery, and because it's ungrammatical, the writer of it sounds utterly stupid.

SofiaMichelle · 04/08/2021 09:18

I don't mind "naice" half as much as I wish people here would stop with "call it out", "call her out", "call him out", "call them out"...

I absolutely detest that.

Why would you say/post such a thing if you're not an American teenager.

kierenthecommunity · 04/08/2021 09:35

Well I’ve learned something today. I thought the Biscuit was a ‘I’m just here for the comments’ post. As in I’m just here with a cuppa and biscuit enjoying the scrapping.

I could live without seeing the ‘log it with the non emergency police’ line again. Like there’s a separate call centre at police HQ to keep a filing cabinet of grievances.

And they always make it sound like the person being ‘called out’ will wither and collapse in response to this devastating rebuttal. I always picture Phoebe Buffay saying, ‘Oh, I have tasted your medicine and it is bitter!’

Yeah, this... It's like the ever-stupid 'did you mean to be so rude?'

Yes. Yes I fucking did.

Seriously, has anyone EVER said 'did you mean to be so rude?' in real life? It sounds so daft! And do the people suggesting a poster says 'did you mean to be so rude' think that the person it's aimed at is going to say 'oh no... I didn't, I am sooo sorry, please forgive me, for I have been soooo RUUUUUUDE!' Confused

LOL daft!

Oooooh, that's another thing that narks me off, the accusation that you are JEALOUS!!!!!!!! Like when you have the temerity to criticize a woman - any women - in the public eye, and say you're not keen on her, (and/or that you don't think she is particularly attractive;) you ALWAYS get a few posters spitting and hissing at you, and insisting you are JEALOUS of her.

Are women not allowed to say anything negative about another woman without the pathetic and laughable 'Jealousy is not a good look,' line being trotted out. It's so fucking tedious.

I posted on a thread once - on another forum - about the girls in Big Brother at the time. I was hugely complimentary about 3 of them, as I thought they were very pretty, and really nice girls, and I loved their hair, and I said they had a great figure.

I said about the 4th girl that I didn't like her, and I couldn't see what the fuss was about regarding her looks - she had botox and collagen and fillers and fake boobs.. She looked weird IMO, and not good. I got accused of being SO JEALOUS of the 4th girl. And I was told that I was obviously an ugly old dog. Confused

I had literally been gushing over the first 3 girls and saying how attractive and nice they were. How and why the fuck was I 'jealous' of the 4th girl, purely because I said I didn't think she was attractive, and I didn't think she was very nice? It made zero sense.

I remember a thread where people dared to be less than complimentary about Posh Spice. All got accused of being jealous. Grin No idea how that works at all.

I mean I would have loved to have listed all the ways I was NOT jealous of PS but I think that would have been against TGs.

Say you don't like something=jealous. No idea.Confused

The other one I hate is when people say ‘This really didn’t need a thread, OP’ or similar; as if threads on Mumsnet are somehow a limited, precious commodity, and that by starting a thread to say ‘Was my friend a bitch to say she preferred my other dress?’ has somehow robbed someone else with a far more important dilemma the chance to post.

TBF there are some pretty spectacular storms in teacups around at the moment. Grin

@Sparklingbrook, lord, do you remember the hatred for the Beckhams? (It's me Drank btw) I bet Victoria and David thank Christ and all the angels that Meghan Merkle exists. Wink

Yes, there was a lot wasn't there? They do seem to have faded into insignificance now. The last thing i raised an eyebrow at was the leg pose thing. Grin And the goings on with No1 son, but only internally.

LizzieW1969 · 04/08/2021 13:46

I never heard the word ‘naice’ before coming onto MN, but it was very clear what it meant from the context. And yes, it’s very much Hyacinth Bucket. Grin

Maggiesfarm · 04/08/2021 14:05

I remember Hyacinth Bucket (used to say my mum was a bit of a Hyacinth), but don't remember her having an accent. I've just said "Naice", out loud to myself a few times and I sound as though I come from Liverpool (or go to 'wairk' in Liverpool). That's fine for Liverpudlians, I quite like regional accents but it sounds odd coming from me who has little or no accent. Surely nobody writes phonetically anyway.

That's the point.
Maggiesfarm · 05/08/2021 00:33

I'll have to re-watch some Hyacinth Bucket; I honestly don't remember her saying, "Naice".
