Caught neighbours using my garden

Weird21 · 26/07/2021 23:58

I have a block of flats next to my house and I thought for a while things have been moved in my garden and it seemed a bit weird. I’ve got a lock on the gate and it’s always locked. So over the weekend I’ve installed a small out door camera under my guttering which records the whole back garden.

So I’ve come home tonight after work (I work the late shift) and found two cigarette butts on the path by my seating area. So I checked the camera and the neighbors have climbed my wall and been sitting in my garden from 2pm until 8pm using my seating and table. To say I’m annoyed is an understatement but how to I confront them as they aren’t the friendliest of people at the best of times. So I guess they’ve been doing this since the nice weather began.

Unfortunately it’s not difficult to see i’m out as I have to drive to work and so once my cars not there they obviously know I’m out.

I just don’t know how to approach this as I’m a single woman and just concerned it’ll escalate but I can’t allow this what would you all do? I thought maybe a note through their door asking them to not use it anymore. They haven’t seen the camera but now I wonder how long it’s been going on.

It is incredibly difficult to get a HA tenant out for ASB...as I personally know.

I endured 3 years of my downstairs neighbour inflicting not only myself, but every single visitor to my flat - including delivery and postal staff - to serious verbal abuse and threats. It was a block of floor flats, he was on the ground floor below me and seriously thought he should be able to live in complete silence. Unfortunately anyone coming to my flat had to go past his front door, to go up the two small flights of steps leading to it...and without fail he would open his door as they did so, shouting abuse at them. I had numerous complaints from delivery staff and even had royal mail threatening not to deliver to my address. I reported every single occurance to the HA...it was only when he threatened to kill myself, my partner and our pets one NYE and I called the police and they advised us that for our own safety we should leave the flat that the HA decided to take him to court.

All that happened was that he got slapped with a good behaviour order for 2 years. I was then told by my two other neighbours that he'd been living there for about 10 years, and had driven at least 4 other tenants out of my flat. The good behaviour order did nothing - in fact he became worse. He also started urinating on the stairs and landing outside my front door, would deliberately go around slamming all his doors at 3am in the morning, play music at top volume at the same times. If the police came around he just wouldn't open his front door, and they had no grounds to force their way in.

I'm bipolar, I had a severe relapse due to the stress and ended up having to stay at my exH's flat for 3 months. The HA rehoused me in the July and I remember telling the HA officer who came around to check my flat before I moved out that it was so fucking unfair that I was the one who was being forced to move. She admitted that he'd done the same to other tenants, but I was the first that had been willing to take him to court and they couldn't evict him after just one court case...

@DogsSausages

The slagging off comment was posted by another poster
Me. And if what the OP said the HA said was true, it definitely comes under "slagging off". And possibly slander. In any case, a serious disciplinary issue.
noirchatsdeux · 31/07/2021 16:18

*a block of four flats

*should be criminal behaviour order (CBO)

GemCheshire · 31/07/2021 17:36

Their behaviour is totally unacceptable and I feel for you having to go through this. WTF is wrong with them to think that's ok.
We have a Nest camera which is obviously there and we can also remotely talk through it.
Definitely call the police next time. Give them a head start and then scream through the Microphone... "What the F are you doing in my garden. The police are on the way." Do the anti-vandal climb paint too. They'll get the hint. If they come back after that, borrow a friend's big alsation dog 🤣

Welcome to the UK in 2021, where more people seem to be concerned about protecting the rights of trespassers & wrongdoers than about the rights of a single woman not to run the risk of finding trespassers & wrongdoers sat in her garden, or, potentially, house. It's no wonder scumbags like that are so brazen about their behaviour. They know they have an army of do-gooders more interested in protecting them than their victims Hmm

DdraigGoch · 31/07/2021 20:15

@newnortherner111

Whilst it technically may have breached the DPA, if the neighbours had thought of other people's rights and their responsibilities, then eviction/notice would not be being made.
Sadly it doesn't matter what is morally right in the legal world. Only what the letter of the law states.

*Quite incredible. Disappointed that the Iberian DGP hasn't made an appearance in the story.

I did wonder when SpanGran was going to get an honorary mention on this thread!*

SpanGran?

Miraloma · 31/07/2021 20:58

SpanGran and biker friends

Lalliella · 31/07/2021 21:50

Please link to the Span Gran thread, I loved that one

StoneofDestiny · 31/07/2021 21:53

I've missed the update! Without repeating what the OP wants to keep private - have the intruders been caught?

JacquelineCarlyle · 31/07/2021 22:08

No!

TopBlogger · 31/07/2021 22:11

The ops posts are highlighted StoneofDestiny, just filter them and read the latest update

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 31/07/2021 22:14

The OPS posts have been deleted. What did we miss?!

JacquelineCarlyle · 31/07/2021 22:15

No one has been caught. She called the HA and they're going to take action but they also gave her information that many pointed out would breach data protection!

StoneofDestiny · 31/07/2021 22:18

Thank you @JaquelineCarlyle

shazzz1xx · 31/07/2021 22:18

Move your table n chairs when ur at work or cover with a weather cover
Also make out at your going out at 1:30 for work on a day off then come back at 2:30 and catch them at it then they will have to do the confrontation x

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 31/07/2021 22:19

Well that escalated quickly.

StoneofDestiny · 31/07/2021 22:19

@TopBlogger they have been deleted!

MilesOfSand · 01/08/2021 01:12

God, there’s some boring people on this thread.

JustJoinedRightNow · 01/08/2021 01:58

@StoneofDestiny read through the last four pages or so, OP’s posts have been quoted a number of times and still remain so you can read the updates there.

SpanGran?

There are many threads. This is the one where SpanGran arrives in the UK www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2993916-CFN-SpanGran-has-landed-thread-8 - there are links to the previous threads in it, and probably to the following one too.

Somewhere down the line it was suggested that this whole saga was fake, but I don't know if that was ever established without doubt.

FoxtrotSkarloey · 01/08/2021 12:09

IIRC, there was a final post from the OP of the Span Gran threads which was later deleted. Subsequently, it was said it was all fake, but there has never been any sort of post by MNHQ suggesting that so I don't know why at some point someone starting saying it was fake.

Not dissimilar to this thread, IIRC the final post was not very exciting and along the lines of trying to take legal/enforcement action. Who knows what happened thereafter...

itcouldhave · 01/08/2021 20:05

I think Spangran, along with a lot of other long running threads on here, start off as real, but posters get over-invested and start begging for updates, placemarking and egging on the OP.

Some OPs react by just dropping off the thread because the update is inconclusive or not very exciting, but some OPs embellish or make shit up to please the audience.

Quite a lot of people on MN (IMHO) should consider examining their relationship with the forum, how they behave on MN and the consequences of it.

For example, one of the reasons this site is plagued with fake CF/parking/neighbour trolls is because as soon as one is posted people piss themselves with excitement, demand diagrams, updates and breathless posts egging on the OP with ridiculous suggestions.

SophieB100 · 01/08/2021 21:32

Been picked up by The Sun Hmm

WhatisanODP · 02/08/2021 08:42

I’ve never seen a thread go quite so much in the ops favour 😆
