I need to make a dessert for 8. Oven just went pop so no baked cheesecake. All out of inspiration. Trifle isn't exciting me. Any ideas?

Chocolate mousse is stove top?

mynameiscalypso · 23/07/2021 20:24

Without stating the obvious, a no-bake cheesecake?

44PumpLane · 23/07/2021 20:24

Eton mess.... Feels very swish but realistically it's deliciously easy

GCrebel · 23/07/2021 20:25

Non-bake cheesecake? Just sets in the fridge

Eton mess (with shop bought meringues)

ShinglesOuch · 23/07/2021 20:26

Second no bake cheesecake.

Cream cheese, cream, yoghurt, jelly on a biscuit base.

Classica · 23/07/2021 20:26

Tiramisu
Chocolate mousse
Lemon posset
Tiffin/Rocky road type things

veeeeh · 23/07/2021 20:26

Banoffee Pie. Yum....

TroysMammy · 23/07/2021 20:27

Jelly and blancmange with silver balls sprinkled on top.

Notimeforaname · 23/07/2021 20:27

Yep. Cheesecake that only needs refrigerating

GCrebel · 23/07/2021 20:27

This no bake cheesecake with chocolate cookies as the base is a good one too - although I used Maryland cookies instead of the expensive Waitrose ones.

Flyingsatsuma · 23/07/2021 20:27

Banoffee pie. It’s not even cooking, it’s just layering up some ingredients.

LemonRoses · 23/07/2021 20:27

Banoffee pie
Trifle
Tiramisu
Mousse
Ice cream sundaes (always popular)
Mini figs and mascarpone
Pimms jelly
Summer pudding

Classica · 23/07/2021 20:28

Jelly and blancmange with silver balls sprinkled on top.
I've only ever read about blancmange in Just William books as a kid. I've never encountered it in real life.

Banoffee pie

Buy a pre made pastry case...add a jar of dulce de leche, top with sliced bananas, whipped cream and grated chocolate

This. Made it several times, very easy and people are always impressed. I make them in dariole moulds and turn them out, served with the syrup and amaretti.

Strawberries, ice-cream and flake

Lemon baskets (box brandy baskets), jar lemon curd, carton lightly whipped double cream combined. Decorate with fresh raspberries, drizzle with melted plain chocolate, dust with icing sugar, add sprig of mint.

Strawberries bathed in raspberry puree. 2 boxes raspberries, squished through a mouli, add 1 tap caster sugar, toss in Strawberries. Serve in a small glass bowl sitting in a big bowl with crushed ice at the base. A little creme anglais works well.

I'm dying for a sundae now. Vanilla ice-cream smothered in a sauce made out of melted mars bar and a little cream, and then scattered with salted peanuts.

If someone could make one for me I'd be ever so grateful.

dodgynoodles · 23/07/2021 20:35

This is lovely…
Tin of mandarin oranges
Ginger nut biscuits
Double cream

  • dunk biscuits one at a time in mandarin juice
  • layer each biscuit with cream to make a ‘log’
  • cover the whole thing in cream and decorate with the oranges

I made this about 25 years ago and I remember it being really nice as the biscuits became a really nice texture. It might be better with whipping cream so it’s a bit lighter
