That just saying 'Thanks' is not rude.

Yep

Sarahlou63 · 22/07/2021 13:23

Correct.

MattHancocksSexTape · 22/07/2021 13:23

👍

CrouchEndTiger12 · 22/07/2021 13:24

Indeed

PurpleDaisies · 22/07/2021 13:24

Context

JovialNickname · 22/07/2021 13:25

Sure

Whinginadeville · 22/07/2021 13:25

Ok

Mansplainee · 22/07/2021 13:25

Depends on what you’re replying to, but generally okay I think

My Mum took a while to understand how to type on her phone so would only ever reply yes, no or thanks, so I learned never to text her if I needed more than a one word answer 😂

DappledThings · 22/07/2021 13:25

Yep

hanahsaunt · 22/07/2021 13:26

Yes

Mansplainee · 22/07/2021 13:26

Oh sorry, I rather spoiled the flow of the thread there didn’t I!

Essentialironingwater · 22/07/2021 13:26

Depends what you're replying to

"Your father and I have decided to gift you £100,000 for a house deposit."
"Thanks" - rude

"The key is under the plant pot"
"Thanks" - probably ok!

mbosnz · 22/07/2021 13:27

Context.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 22/07/2021 13:27

Depends

LemonRoses · 22/07/2021 13:28

If you've been given a new car and diamond necklace, and that was the only response it would be rude.

If you've had a text to say your spouse has picked up the dry cleaning, not rude.

Context is everything.

Bluntness100 · 22/07/2021 13:29

Sure

NotAnotherPushyMum · 22/07/2021 13:29

I always add a 😊 just to be sure they know it’s not rude. Context is everything.

NuffSaidSam · 22/07/2021 13:30

Agree, context is important.

I do think one word texts read a bit rude though.

Notwavingbutdrowing3 · 22/07/2021 13:30

Less is more

'Thanks ' is a perfectly fine response

Context is important but it's hard to see how it would be considered rude

Nicolastuffedone · 22/07/2021 13:30

👍

Annoyedandirritated · 22/07/2021 13:31

Could be construed as passive aggressive to me

giletrouge · 22/07/2021 13:48

Well...

Tana433 · 22/07/2021 13:49

Virtually anything i text to my 28yr old daughter, she replies with Ok xxx! Its become a bit of a joke between my DH and i now to guess her message before we open it. We are right 9 times out of 10 and its fine, doesnt bother me at all.

SorryWoman · 22/07/2021 13:59

I would always add an exclamation mark

HollowTalk · 22/07/2021 14:01

Mine's the same:

Mum is typing
Mum is typing
Mum is typing... (goes on for half an hour)

OK
