I used to text like that but I think people found it abrupt so now I throw in a few extra words or emojis, especially to friends who text like that

When my mum first got a phone, she thought that you paid per letter when sending texts. I got a lot of ‘OK’ replies until I explained it to her! 😂
Tbf back in the day you did only get a (small) set number of characters per text and it cost more if you went over the limit - it's why txt spk ever became a thing

I live in the US and have had to repeatedly explain to my coworkers and friends that one word answers are polite. I warn them that the over-friendly, effusive texts mean that a British person is really fucking angry.
