That just saying 'Thanks' is not rude.

ChainJane · 22/07/2021 14:04

Yes it's a bit rude, depending on the context.

tinkywinkyshandbag · 22/07/2021 14:14

Indeed

Let me guess - someone expects flowery responses from you with lots of emojis and kisses because you’re a woman.

Hassled · 22/07/2021 14:35

My DCs seem to have given up on actual words and just send me a thumbs up. "Thanks" feels like a bloody luxury.

PrincessNutella · 22/07/2021 16:12

If you're british, don't you have to add xo?

Tiramiwho · 22/07/2021 16:17

Haha! Love this 😄
With someone in a more formal or business setting I would usually type 'Thanks for that' or 'Thanks, that's great' With family and it's no holds barred: "Thanks love/lad 😄👌Xxx"

Tiramiwho · 22/07/2021 16:18

My Quote didn't work. @hollowtalk 🙂

toocold54 · 22/07/2021 16:34

Mine's the same:

Mum is typing
Mum is typing
Mum is typing... (goes on for half an hour)

OK

Do we have the same mum?! Lol
I didn’t realise other mums did this too Grin

TabithaTiger · 22/07/2021 16:35

It's a bit curt. If I was texting a plumber it would fine. But my DP/ Mum/ friend, then I would add an x or 😊

AGirlCalledJohnny · 22/07/2021 16:59

I sat with my mum (91) while she sent my son a birthday message. She was typing for ages. I asked him later and all she'd written was "Happy birthday." Grin

Sometimes she types in a foreign language, with umlauts etc all over the place. Greek on special occasions, when the pressure is really getting to her. None of us know what she's doing with that £9.99 2005 phone to make that happen.

That really made me laugh! My mum's 91 too.
melj1213 · 22/07/2021 18:06

Depends entirely on context as to whether its appropriate.

Balaur · 22/07/2021 18:11

My son sometimes replied with half a word, which is outrageous.
E.g "Do you want sausages for tea?"
"Ye"
I thought it an accident at first but no, apparently not. He's too busy and important to type the full word out Hmm

1WayOrAnother2 · 22/07/2021 18:15

Y

1WayOrAnother2 · 22/07/2021 18:15

YUP

is the long answer (from my son)

Evidencebased · 22/07/2021 18:24

In my family you're lucky if you get words at all!

Emojis are the default in our family chats - if you ask a yes/no question or someone wants to confirm they have seen something you just get a 👍/👌/👎from most people

Purplesunflowers · 22/07/2021 22:11

When my mum first got a phone, she thought that you paid per letter when sending texts. I got a lot of ‘OK’ replies until I explained it to her! 😂
