To think Anne Robinson is acting like her Weakest Link persona when presenting Countdown?

I remember reading somewhere before where she was quoted saying that she’ll be nothing like the host she was on The Weakest Link, but this is the third episode I’ve seen from her and she IS acting like her persona on TWL. Not AS rude but she’s constantly belittling the contestants, interrupting them, bickering with them, jostling them to do impressions and make fools of themselves like the contestants on TWL even though they are clearly uncomfortable and it’s clearly not that type of show or contestants. Does anyone else agree or do you prefer/like her as the host?

I think this is her presenting style she makes countdown tense viewing I've stopped watching it too. I really liked Colin Murray as the stand in wish he had stayed.

I won't watch it for this reason.. which makes me entirely unqualified to comment because I haven't seen it but I expect you're right. I've never liked her. And after hearing her whining on woman's hour that she's not allowed to say racist things any more because the world's gone 'woke' I like her even less.

@Mrsjayy Tense is a good word to describe it. I used to like the show whenever I saw it as it was quite calm, with some light-hearted gentle jokes and it was just easy afternoon viewing playing a word game. But the barbs and the nasty little quips are putting me off, not to mention trying to make the contestants perform. She got a man in today’s episode who I guess is about 60ish who does rowing in his spare time, to show off his biceps, make grunting noises like he does when he rows and to sing songs. He looked really embarrassed and reluctant.

@chunderwunder wow, I did not know she said that. I honestly thought her on TWL was just an act she put on, but now I’m not sure she doesn’t just have a naturally abrasive personality

It's who she actually is.
She's a deeply unpleasant woman.

She was an exec producer on weakest link, wasn't she? Which means she wrote or sanctioned her racist, misogynist, homophobic comments. She sounds like a nasty piece of work.

She's awful on it. Awful.

I could never understand the appeal of The Weakest Link which I saw as televised bullying.

By these days I take it she is referring to when she used homophobia to belittle contestants on the weakest link, if a woman got an easy question wrong she’d tell her she looked like a lesbian.

We’re not watching it until she is gone, we both really like countdown, but we can’t support her. Its a shame Colin Murray was only a stand in, he was very good.

She's a horrible nasty bitch. I've watched Countdown for years but don't anymore. She's vile. I bet the viewing figures have plummeted.

Yes, I really liked Colin. Initially thought he was too chatty but I think that was the contrast to Nick Hewer and I soon warmed to him. Would be very happy to see him do it.

I just watched it today and thought exactly the same thing. She comes across as so unfriendly towards the contestants. It is quite uncomfortable to watch. Not really the vibe of countdown in my opinion

I felt really sorry for the male contestant today...I thought she was really unpleasant towards him

DH, DS1 and I are devotees of Countdown. When we heard AR was going to be the new host we were a bit but decided to give it the benefit of doubt.

We have stopped watching. I am quite sad.

the persona wasn't a persona at all, it's the real her. I worked on one of her shows for 2 years, she's vile... derogatory comments about the crew/no one allowed to make eye contact etc etc. Can't believe she still gets work tbh.

Are viewing figures publicly available? I'd be curious to see the AR effect too.

I agree and think she was a terrible choice of host for the show. I’d love to see Colin Murray as the replacement.

Like everyone else, I preferred Colin Murray as well. If he wasn't available because of sports presenting, then surely someone else?
She's sounding a bit sexist in the things she says to Rachel Riley ( liking blokes stuff, eg football) and also Rachel Parris ( women in comedy).
