To think Anne Robinson is acting like her Weakest Link persona when presenting Countdown?

And to have gone off it?

I remember reading somewhere before where she was quoted saying that she’ll be nothing like the host she was on The Weakest Link, but this is the third episode I’ve seen from her and she IS acting like her persona on TWL. Not AS rude but she’s constantly belittling the contestants, interrupting them, bickering with them, jostling them to do impressions and make fools of themselves like the contestants on TWL even though they are clearly uncomfortable and it’s clearly not that type of show or contestants. Does anyone else agree or do you prefer/like her as the host?

Can't believe I've stopped watching after 35+ years. It's always been comfortable easy viewing but it's abrasive now and unwatchable. Shame because a female presenter would have been good, Joan Bakewell or Floella Benjamin would have been my choice.

GlutenFreeGingerCake · 22/07/2021 11:57

Yes countdown has been popular for years and it should stay the same easy watching fun it has always been. A laid back presenter who can give us the odd joke is what's needed. We already have the female maths genius so I think a male presenter is fine.

newnortherner111 · 22/07/2021 12:01

I have the sound off. I welcome a female presenter, just not Anne Robinson.

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 22/07/2021 12:03

@IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves

It's not a persona. It's who she actually is. She's a deeply unpleasant woman.
Came on to say this. I’ve worked with her.
Forgottenyeti · 22/07/2021 12:05

I'm trying to convince my dad to give her a chance while gritting my teeth. It's very uncomfortable viewing and unlike countdown.

Susie isolating is bad timing.

That food lady that was on the other week was actually great with Anne though. Can't remember her name now.

Maireas · 22/07/2021 15:21

She's had so much work done around her mouth, it's actually giving her a speech impediment.

Maireas · 22/07/2021 18:03

Anyone see today's episode? How on earth did that story making game stay in the edit?

God knows. It was bloody painful

I agree @plodalong12, however I also thought that Nick Hewer was too confrontational when he started. I don't deal well with Countdown change.Blush

I will be giving AR a chance to settle down and win me over.🕛🕧

He’s was and very condescending too
Dontforgetyourbrolly · 23/07/2021 07:19

She think she's unique and cutting , she makes me cringe like someone's racist old nan in the post office

Yiayoula · 25/07/2021 14:07

I don’t mind whether the presenter is female, male, young or ( ahem ) of more mature years - just so long as they “get” Countdown.

AR obviously does not.

TooBigForMyBoots · 25/07/2021 15:29

I bet Fern Britton would be good. I live her warmth and humour.🥰

MaggieFS · 28/07/2021 14:36

For pity's sake. It came on just now so I thought I'd give her another go when I saw it's the lovely Richard Coles on, and the horrible woman can't even find any compassion in her voice while discussing his husband's illness and death. A new low.

JSL52 · 28/07/2021 15:03

Watched today with her grilling Richard Coles about his late husband.
So embarrassing I had to turn over.

Comedycook · 28/07/2021 15:33

Wow, that was uncomfortable to watch

plodalong12 · 28/07/2021 15:40

Can someone say what happened as I missed it.

I can think of oh, at least six possible female presenters off the top of my head who would have fitted right in to the Countdown vibe: warm, nice, inclusive, wanting the contestant to do well, contributing to the soothing daytime atmosphere of the whole thing where for a little while everything is right with the world. I don't want nastiness or 'clever' acerbic comments...

Liza Tarbuck
Jenny Eclair
Fern Britton
Jennie Bond
Jenni Murray
Mel Giedroyc

Loads of possibilities!

MaggieFS · 28/07/2021 16:09

@plodalong12 Richard Coles is the celeb guest. Background, if you're not aware, is that he's recently written a book about grief following the death of his husband due to alcoholism. I know it's his choice to have written the book, promote it and indeed talk about it, however the way she asked him questions was terrible. Zero empathy or emotion in her voice and at times, she was almost trying to make light of it, you know how when someone is embarrassed/awkward. It was awful.

(Sorry can't remember the details of what she asked hence I'm summarising!).

MorganKitten · 28/07/2021 16:13

It’s not a persona, she is that nasty in real life.

CurryLover55 · 28/07/2021 16:16

Not sure anyone has ever beaten Richard Whitely - loved him

CurryLover55 · 28/07/2021 16:18

I wondered about Sue Perkins although maybe she’s not laid back enough. I love what she does though.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 28/07/2021 16:19

I love Liza and Fern.

I miss old twice nightly. He was like my granda’s big slipper.

HarebrightCedarmoon · 28/07/2021 16:20

I think it's just how she is, not the WL persona. Not right for Countdown unless she can remove the pole from her arse.
