Interested what you would do. Currently in a UK hotel, known brand. At 16.30, daughter and friend used the swimming pool. 17 year olds.

When to the showers, saw a woman upset, they then noticed a male masturbating in the shower, door open. Woman reported it to the leisure staff, DD and friend reported it to hotel reception.

Nothing has been done. I went to speak to them to find out what they are going to do, they might check the CCTV if they have time but don’t know who he is. Time slots are booked, they have names. None of the staff saw the issue with this but we’re very apologetic.

I’ve told them to report it to the Police or I will. Also tweeted the CEO because I feel nothing will happen.

Am I being unreasonable to not let this just be dismissed.

Oh and the hotel gave my dd and her friend a free lemonade as an apology, what is that teaching them.

OP posts:
stonebrambleboy · 17/07/2021 21:51

Totally unacceptable. YANBU to pursue this. Free lemonade, what planet are they on ffs.

Megasausagehead · 17/07/2021 21:53

WTF completely unacceptable.

Poor woman.

Bloody pervert.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 17/07/2021 21:57

Tell the hotel if they do nothing you'll report it to the police yourself. Tweet the CEO and say the same thing. Make it as public as possible. This shit behaviour shouldnt be swept under the carpet and should be punished.

SilverOak · 17/07/2021 22:01

Masturbating in public is indecency and needs to be reported to the police. As proved by the Sarah Everard case, flashers often progress to more serious crimes. YABU to expect the hotel to call the police - your DD is the victim so she’s the one who needs to call the police.

peachcherries · 17/07/2021 22:02

Absolutely take this further and report it to the Police. I would of expected the staff to do that at the time along with speaking to the male.
This made could be a really sexual risk to others and needs dealing with.

OPs being unreasonable to expect the hotel to call the police when there has been a crime committed in their establishment? And can be seen on cameras? And they know who it is? I dont think its unreasonable at all.
FAQs · 17/07/2021 22:05

Thank you, it’s a Best Western nothing fancy nearest hotel to where we need to be tomorrow, I know nothing is currently being done, it’s just unbelievable, guest safety is clearly low on priorities.

OP posts:
Carrott21 · 17/07/2021 22:08

I would ring the police and CEO. Could be a precursor to a rape.

youvegottenminuteslynn · 17/07/2021 22:10

Please do make sure you report this to the police OP.

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 17/07/2021 22:11

WOW!! Totally unacceptable that nothing was done.

Yes call the police yourself

Yes tweet the CEO

Well done for stepping up OP.

rosalindwi · 17/07/2021 22:13

If this has happened once, certain it will happen again. They should be appalled and investigating should be a priority

MrsTulipTattsyrup · 17/07/2021 22:15

What a horrible experience. A crime has been committed and should be reported and investigated.

I believe that BW hotels are independently owned as sort-of franchises, so each branch might be more autonomous than those in a true corporate chain. Given the management is reluctant to call the police, I think you should do so yourself, as ‘head office’ might have fewer powers to intervene than we are all imagining.

AttaGirrrrl · 17/07/2021 22:19

Call the police. It surely can’t be that difficult to work out who it was and he 100% needs charging with indecency.

PegasusReturns · 17/07/2021 22:19

Call the police yourself. You shouldn’t have to but it’s the best way to get this dealt with. It’s a sexual offence and a gateway to worse offending.

Baroness Nicholson sent an excellent letter and received a decent response from the National Police Chief Council lead on rape and serious sexual assault following an allegation of indecent exposure in a supermarket that the police were seemingly ambivalent about.

AttaGirrrrl · 17/07/2021 22:20

(I mean, the hotel or police should work out who it was, not you or your daughters)

SquirtleSquad · 17/07/2021 22:24

Definitely report to the police, you could very genuinely have an impact in protecting others from this man.

MrsWhites · 17/07/2021 22:24

Absolutely not being unreasonable. I would report to the police myself tonight whilst still on the premises.

CaffeineAndNicotine · 17/07/2021 22:24

I would call the police myself.

beastlyslumber · 17/07/2021 22:27

Report to police. It's a criminal offence. Fucking unbelievable that the hotel did nothing. WTF.

TooWicked · 17/07/2021 22:32

Call the police to report it. Like now. Not in the morning, not waiting to see if the staff do anything. Now.

beigebrownblue · 17/07/2021 22:35

You need to name the brand.

RIGHT HERE. RIGHT NOW.

Like to see them take no action if millions of mumsnet members are on the case.

beigebrownblue · 17/07/2021 22:36

Just noticed it is a Best Western.

I'm sure there are many posters here thinking of booking best western.

Bump it up ladies.

OP did. Its Best Western.
Sexnotgender · 17/07/2021 22:37

Call the police. This won’t be the first or last crime he has committed.

nocoolnamesleft · 17/07/2021 22:40

Oh fuck. Literally got another tab open to book into a Best Western. Looks like I need to look for somewhere else.

Call the police.
