Interested what you would do. Currently in a UK hotel, known brand. At 16.30, daughter and friend used the swimming pool. 17 year olds.

When to the showers, saw a woman upset, they then noticed a male masturbating in the shower, door open. Woman reported it to the leisure staff, DD and friend reported it to hotel reception.

Nothing has been done. I went to speak to them to find out what they are going to do, they might check the CCTV if they have time but don’t know who he is. Time slots are booked, they have names. None of the staff saw the issue with this but we’re very apologetic.

I’ve told them to report it to the Police or I will. Also tweeted the CEO because I feel nothing will happen.

Am I being unreasonable to not let this just be dismissed.

Oh and the hotel gave my dd and her friend a free lemonade as an apology, what is that teaching them.

When you've done all that, go on Google and leave a 1star review, again with full details, facts only.

Youdiditanyway · 18/07/2021 16:23

Poor woman, please call the police.

TooBigForMyBoots · 18/07/2021 16:24

Well done on calling the police yourself @FAQs. WTF were Best Western thinking? A sex offender is using their facilities and they do nothing? Why?

TopBlogger · 18/07/2021 16:28

@Youdiditanyway

Poor woman, please call the police.
Hmm?
beigebrownblue · 18/07/2021 16:33

freelemonading is very apt.

Well done for reporting and posting OP

Stormyseasallround · 18/07/2021 16:35

Good for you. Don’t let it be covered up. As women, we need to refuse to allow this shit to happen, and force accountability when it does.

GlitterBiscuits · 18/07/2021 16:41

Well done OP!

@TooBigForMyBoots

Well done on calling the police yourself *@FAQs*. WTF were Best Western thinking? A sex offender is using their facilities and they do nothing? Why?
Do you think they're worried he'll claim to be a woman and then instead of him being arrested for a sex crime, they'll be accused of transphobia? Like what happened in those spas in America?

That might not be it, but I wonder whether some of the confusion about what's right/wrong in terms of men in changing rooms etc is creating a situation where it just feels 'safer' to do nothing.

TooBigForMyBoots · 18/07/2021 16:56

I didnt think that at all @beastlyslumber, my first thought was that he was a member of staff or a good friend of one. Wanking in public is an offence, it doesnt matter if you're a man or a woman or say you're one or the other.

The free lemonade thing is just disgusting.

GabriellaMontez · 18/07/2021 17:00

Best Western clearly had no intention of pursuing this. Fobbing you off with a story about the nightman... glad you've reported this pervert.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 18/07/2021 17:04

You call the police, the hotel staff will be changing constantly and the handovers will be lost in the many dramas of hotel life I am not making light of the situation, but staff turnover will be high and the incident will be lost in translation, a minimum wage employee will not be able to assist the police in an incident that happened to someone else maybe days ago by the time they investigate. If you want something done do it yourself. Hotel staff are not trained in every aspect of human behaviour.

beastlyslumber · 18/07/2021 17:06

my first thought was that he was a member of staff or a good friend of one

That could be it. Either that or just piss-poor care and training of staff.

TheDivineOddity · 18/07/2021 17:09

Well done op for standing up for what is right, I'm fuming on your behalf.

EL8888 · 18/07/2021 17:09

Good on you for reporting it. The hotel are a disgrace. The lemonade big is especially grim, what next jewellery and money for inappropriate behaviour? Not criticising your child obviously, it’s the message being sent to her as a female l have issue with.
At work l frequently have contact with sexual offenders, then don’t start with the rape and murder. It often with things like this

TokyoSushi · 18/07/2021 17:15

Only just seen this, I worked in hotels for a very, very long time. The likelihood is that the staff at the hotel didn't really know what to do, as is often unfortunately the case at the weekend. It's also likely that somebody with more of a clue will come in tomorrow and be horrified at what's gone on.

Well done to you for taking matters into your own hands, what an awful experience.

Nelia5 · 18/07/2021 17:23

Rob Patterson recently left Best Western GB, although I‘m sure someone will monitor his twitter account. It’s best to contact [email protected]

Nelia5 · 18/07/2021 17:25

All BW hotels are independently owned abs operated, so it should be the hotel assisting you and the police to deal with the incident

PyjamaFan · 18/07/2021 17:44

Well done for calling the police OP.

FAQs · 20/07/2021 10:13

BWH want nothing to do with it @Nelia5 you were correct, although it’s their name and they are the booking agent .. so only want the shine not the dirt.

How far to take this?

In my early twenties a friend and i were on holiday and were followed by a guy at a tourist attraction who we realised was masturbating. We managed to get security attention who took it incredibly seriously, guy was taken off by police. Absolutely pursue this, it's a short line between this and something far worse.

MurielSpriggs · 20/07/2021 14:58

@FAQs

BWH want nothing to do with it *@Nelia5* you were correct, although it’s their name and they are the booking agent .. so only want the shine not the dirt.
To be fair to Best Western I'm not really sure what they could do. If they just act as agent I don't think they can do anything much. It's primarily a matter for the police to investigate, with the help of the hotel staff where necessary.
