Wibu if I hired a professional to clean the oven

I do all the cleaning in the home, I like it more clean than my husband does so it's far easier and quicker if I do it myself (the exception is that he cleans the cat litter).

However - I refuse to do the oven, I hate it! Husband keeps saying he'll clean it but it's been 2 years now and it's so bad. I've found an oven cleaning specialist who will do the whole oven, shelves, and trays for just over £50.
Husband thinks it's an unnecessary expense and he'll do it but it's been a week since I brought it up and the oven is still awful; would I be unreasonable to hire the cleaner for a day I'm working at home and just not tell him? I've tried explaining why I think we would've better to hire someone and that I'd pay but he's just saying no and if I want it done I should do it, surely hiring someone comes into that category

I've done it before. Only once but it was so worth it!
I clean the oven every time i use it now, just a quick wipe, so it never needs a proper clean!
But yes, pay the money. They do such a great job.

I used to get one to do mine and I clean it after every use!! I just wanted a deep clean and it was money well spent !!!

BobVance · 12/07/2021 14:25

If you can afford it then absolutely go for it. No amount of me cleaning my oven could ever get it to the same cleanliness as the guy who came and did mine. It took him 2.5hrs to do two ovens and it was the best £80 I’ve ever spent.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 12/07/2021 14:25

Professional oven cleaners are magicians. They make them so shiny.

If an oven has been cleaned regularly, its easy to clean. Neglected, a complete pain.

BIWI · 12/07/2021 14:25

I have mine done professionally about once a year. It's money very well spent!

Lampzade · 12/07/2021 14:26

Get my oven cleaned every six months . I use Ovenu. Costs me £60 and is worth every penny
Get someone in . You won’t regret it.

BikeRunSki · 12/07/2021 14:26

Just do it. Even my domestic goddess MIL gets her over cleaned professionally!!

AppleKatie · 12/07/2021 14:27

I have mine done professionally too. It’s so so worth it. I simply haven’t got the tools to do what the guy does and you don’t get any where near the same result with the normal cleaners.

ConsuelaHammock · 12/07/2021 14:27

I’ve done it and I keep meaning to book him to come back. Do it !

Lilywithcats · 12/07/2021 14:28

Haha thanks for all your replies everyone! I'll book her in then! I honestly can't wait to have a clean oven lol, it's getting almost hazardous to open it after cooking Blush

I had this discussion with my husband two months ago, he was going to do it instead of paying someone.
It is still filthy and I'm not discussing this type of thing again. I'm just booking it.

bellsbuss · 12/07/2021 14:30

I get mine done 1-2 times a year, it's a job I hate .

WhatAWasteOfOranges · 12/07/2021 14:32

Oven pride in the orange box overnight works like magic if you don’t want to pay someone. Literally don’t need to scrub

Squiblet · 12/07/2021 14:33

I've never cleaned the oven. It seems fine. Doesn't the intense heat just sort of burn everything off inside?

user159 · 12/07/2021 14:33

£40 every six months - money well spent!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 12/07/2021 14:35

we do that every year

VoiceFaceArse · 12/07/2021 14:36

We have our oven professionally cleaned every year, no horrible chemicals and well worth it. Neither of us want to clean the oven.

Sn0tnose · 12/07/2021 14:37

I've tried explaining why I think we would've better to hire someone and that I'd pay but he's just saying no and if I want it done I should do it, surely hiring someone comes into that category

If you want it clean, you should do it??? It sounds like this extends to his
cleaning ethos about the whole house. Why are you tolerating this lazy fucker? A) he doesn’t get to dictate what you can and can’t spend your money on. B) You’re a grown adult. You’re not six and he’s not your dad telling you that you can’t spend your pocket money on sweets and C) why aren’t you refusing to do anything for this lazy manchild and telling him if he wants a clean shirt for work, he should wash one.

He’s happy to outsource all of his household responsibilities to you. He doesn’t get to stop you from outsourcing one very grotty job to a professional.

rainbowstardrops · 12/07/2021 14:45

Ignore him. Book it! If he thinks it's a waste of money, he should have done it himself!

MrsJuliaGulia · 12/07/2021 15:00

Definitely not. I have mine done once a year.

PurpleHoodie · 12/07/2021 15:02

Some of the best money I ever spend.

Lilywithcats · 12/07/2021 15:03

@sn0tnose I fully understand what you're saying, I explained my post really badly 😅 I wanted to know if it'd be a dick move to have a conversation with husband asking if he's okay with this, him saying no and then I go ahead and doing it anyway!
He helps out a lot with the house, it's just I like the house kept at a different standard, if I let him be in charge of cleaning the house would be fine I'm sure, just not clean to me you know? :)
