It’s because so many people are pinning hopes and dreams on it. I feel bad for them. I don’t like football either but this is making me a bit uncomfortable

I got.in trouble from.dh whonhas stropped off outside to watch it as I was commentating saying where were england when they weren't defending enough. And saying italy were running down time. I may have been wrong but I thought inwas doing well to engage with a game.i hate. Apparently I am rude and disrespect and have no knowledge and have ruined a once in a life time event. Oops.

I suppose it’s the same sort of thing as mass hysteria, a part of human culture, we share in feelings that we perceive our social group is experiencing. Empathy, or delusion 😁

I’m trying to be the sane voice in my house, my partner is in agony next to me on the sofa. The toddler fell asleep saying she doesn’t like football because of the shouting, and I can’t help but sympathise!

My elderly relative is getting far too into it so I've fled next door and am following online. My heart was fluttering and all the screaming wasn't helping. I'll go back in for penalties if it comes to thst

I’m Scottish, but 3 of my closest friends are English and massive football fans. I want them to win for them. I was with one of them Wednesday night watching and the sheer joy in her face was amazing to see especially after this year! I really hope they win.

Me too. After everything that’s happened in the last year, I just really really want something (anything!) to cheer about.

I don't really care about football..I'm old. But I remember all the tournaments that my kids watched and we're do upset when England lost. Would be nice for all the kids watching to see England can win

I am trying not to care. Using Mumsnet to distract myself now as extra time is making me feel sick.

I don't like football generally. The sexism, the madness of the salaries they earn, etc. And the scenes of the utter filth the fans have created in London makes me sick. But besides all that it is hard not to want England to finally win one of these big tournaments. Just for once! I fear this is going the same as it always does though...

My son has gone to Wembley this evening. I can't stand football but he was so, so excited today that I really want England to win just for him!
