Hi everyone

I wondered if any of you use hello fresh etc for your food and how much roughly you spend for your amount of people?

Ideally would love recommendations of which is best. Thanks in advance x

We have tried both. The food was similar but Gousto have better communications and ordering. The kids love choosing recipes and cooking the meals with me so it has been great for that. Portions are huge so we can get away with 2 person portions for 3/4 people often.

We love gousto, there's 2 of us and it's £35 a week for 4 days meals.

We waste far less food and it's good to know what calories you're having.

wishawish91 · 09/07/2021 13:47

@OnlyBejoking thank you! If I go with Gousto I will use your code, thank you for sharing x

We’ve just tried Hello Fresh again after a long break. I’m not a fan as everything takes far too long.
We wanted an easy option for lunchtimes 4 days a week when we eat main meal at lunch while WFH. It’s not working well though, food nice enough but too involved. We had loads of offers so it’s been artificially cheap (£15.99 last week, £22.99 this week for 4 meals x2 people.

Oldraver · 09/07/2021 13:50

I had a freebie from Hello Fresh and wasn't overly impressed. All the little packets were too much

They also didn't put in a a couple of ingredients and onions were off, so if you were relying on ease and not having to shop it's a pain.

The portions were ample though

Heckythump1 · 09/07/2021 13:52

We prefer Gousto to Hello Fresh.... better quality ingredients, less issues... had gone off meat/damaged veg/missing ingredients with HF, not had that at all with Gousto. Even prefer the packaging of Gousto :P

beautifullymad · 09/07/2021 14:05

I enjoyed hello fresh. It helped my teenagers actively choose and cook meals which was so lovely. They have gained decent culinary skills from this venture and it was a lot cheaper and much more enjoyable than a cooking course.

As a means to providing the family with meals, no, I wouldn't use it. But it's good to try and you can replicate the menu cards very easily.

exybusiness · 09/07/2021 14:13

We've had Gousto and Hello Fresh and much prefer Gousto. I think the choices were better.

LadyCatStark · 09/07/2021 14:16

We also prefer Gousto. With Hello Fresh, so weeks the menu is great but others is chicken or mince in varying forms (or vegetarian). Agree with the packaging being better at Gousto too, it just looks more exciting!

mynameiscalypso · 09/07/2021 14:19

I sort of like Gousto. It's definitely the best but I find I end up choosing more exciting recipes (because I generally have the ingredients to do something simple like lasagne or sausages and mash) and I don't think some of them translate well to home cooking so well. I always find that I want a bit more flavour from everything too.

Hotpinkparade · 09/07/2021 14:20

We much prefer Hello Fresh to Gousto. The recipes suit us better. We're both vegetarian so maybe it's different if you're not! I know some people complain about the quality of produce, we've never had issues there either, maybe it depends what area of the country you're in?

Anyway, happy to share my referral code if you (or anyone else) wants to try out Hello Fresh :) Just copy and paste the link below I think?

Gousto is so much better. I’ve been getting 4x meals for two people for around 6 months now and I’ve never had the same meal twice (not because they are not good, meals are unreal, but because there is so much choice!)

You can get 60% off first box and 30% the following three using this link.

Gousto is much better

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 09/07/2021 14:29

Gousto is the better of the two.

I like that gousto gives you the exact amount of garlic cloves rather than the whole thing.
Goustos boxes and the frozen food bit are all cardboard, the ice block is in a kinda paperbag, so its all recyclable.

Thank you Onlybejoking. I've been looking at trying one of these and have signed up using your code. Hope it's a nice as it looks! 🙂

This is interesting. There are three of us so I'd be interested in knowing what others think of portion sizes. Would we need to order for 2 or 4 people? Fairly average appetites, I think.

Duskydai · 09/07/2021 14:53

I haven’t tried Gousto so can’t comment on that but Hello Fresh is quite good but I feel it’s a bit pricy for what it is. Although we are vegetarian so I guess if you were getting meat and fish especially it would be more worth it. We have since cancelled it (only had a trial week) and now use Simply Cook which is just the spice mixes/stock pots. This is much cheaper £10 for 4 meals and you can do 4 portions out of them. And also it means you can adjust recipes easily so a recent one we had was pork tacos but just replaced pork with halloumi. We’ve been using this for about 8 months now (have set it to one box a month) and it’s lovely food plus very fast to cook. Probably have a code in my email for a free box if you fancy trying it?

FizzyPink · 09/07/2021 14:57

I agree Gousto is much better.

We also enjoyed Simplycook where they send you all of the spices and you buy your own ingredients. It’s fairly pricey usually but there’s loads of welcome offers and then we also got loads of free boxes by sharing our referral code with friends.

itcouldhave · 09/07/2021 14:58

I use both but tend to order more from Gousto as I find the choice of recipes better. We are pescatarian and spend about £38 for 4 meals for 2 people.

FizzyPink · 09/07/2021 14:59

On the subject of portions, DP has a fairly big appetite and he found HelloFresh not enough but Gousto seems to be more generous. However, I’m not sure I could feed 3 or 4 adults on a 2 person pack without adding something else to the meal.

AlexaShutUp · 09/07/2021 15:01

Thanks @FizzyPink, that's helpful.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 09/07/2021 15:02

We tried hello fresh again recently after a couple of years. I signed up for 3 meals a week for 4 of us and struggled to find three meals we'd all eat (although one of my teens is a bit fussy!). We only did it for two weeks as it was all a bit tasteless and also had ingredients missing from most bags. The packaging was ridiculous as well!

funeralq · 09/07/2021 15:04

We much prefer gousto.

AOwlAOwlAOwl · 09/07/2021 15:06

Yeah we have had Gousto for 3 weeks now, next week will be week 4 and at that point have to think about whether we carry on with it.

Really enjoying the food, the recipes are straightforward and I love that I don't have to shop for ingredients but I am not sure about paying full price.

There's two of us and the recipes are generous, especially the ones with potatoes for some reason. After week 2 I'd use 2 or 3 potatoes where the recipe said 4. But I am not sure if it would feed 3 adults. 2 adults and a child probably.
