AIBU - Teenage girls pyjamas with shorts?

sweetkitty · 09/07/2021 13:08

I have 3 teenage DDs,2 of them want summer pyjamas with shorts but all I can find are those sexy short shorts which show off half your arse cheeks, they really don’t want these. DD2 prefers unisex clothes anyway so wears men’s small pyjama shorts with a plain T-shirt. DD3 would like shorts to the knee as well but in more girly colours not blue/black/grey which is all the lens choices seem to be plus she’s 5 foot 4 and 6 stone 5 so even a men’s small will be too small for her (a women’s size 6 is too big too).

It’s this old sexist thing men’s/boys pyjamas come to the knee yet girls/women’s have to be half way up their arse. I’ve looked in M&S and I can get cropped ones instead I though the more “mature” ladies shops might be better, she hates nighties.

These might be a bit more than you were hoping to spend but they’re lovely quality and the shorts are long

DD is happy with primark, covers her backside but short enough to keep her cool

Chihuahuacat · 09/07/2021 13:12

They look shorter on the website - on me they’re definitely more towards the knee

PhantomErik · 09/07/2021 13:16

My DD is coming on for 13 & I have the exact same problem with pyjamas & nighties - so short! I buy two sizes bigger nighties from George Asda to get a decent length but DD is also tiny so trying to find shorts that fit round the waist that don't show her bum cheeks is a nightmare.

Sorry I'm no help but hopefully someone else will have some recommendations.

ForTheLoveOfSleep · 09/07/2021 13:18

George at Asda is reasonably priced and my 10 and 11 years olds like them

Rainallnight · 09/07/2021 13:22

What about Uniqlo? These are very pretty, and probably come up a bit longer on mortals than they do on the model! www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/women/innerwear-and-loungewear/loungewear-pyjamas?quickView=434514

RichTeaCheddars · 09/07/2021 13:26

Just seen in Primark cycling shorts style PJ's. Mini mouse if that's their thing (it's not mine!) Might be other styles/patterns too.

TwoLeftElbows · 09/07/2021 13:30

DD has Asda women's ones, they are not long but they are decent

Something like this? Also, Hollister is much more 'teen' geared and sized.

beigebrownblue · 09/07/2021 13:33

marks and spencer joe cool snoopy ones mine loves those good price and wash nicely

Blissbiz · 09/07/2021 13:34

Next do up to age 16 in girls pjs, my dd has some lovely shorts and top ones

Mummyoflittledragon · 09/07/2021 13:41

DD’s come from primark. Deffo cover the bum.

Zerogravity · 09/07/2021 13:42

Yanbu. We have this problem with shorts in general. All the "girls'" shorts are cut so high!

EveningOverRooftops · 09/07/2021 13:46

Any high street store for basic cotton jersey summer shorts that can be worn to bed.

All my bed shorts are cotton jersey ones I buy in the summer

newnortherner111 · 09/07/2021 13:48

YANBU or should I say your DDs are not unreasonable in their wish. Hope others recommendations work for you.

CaramelFlat · 09/07/2021 13:49

Fat face do lots of shorts for pyjamas. Adult sizes go down to 6 so would probably fit. They do children's wear as well but I've never looked at it.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 09/07/2021 13:50

YES!! I have got some M&S ones this summer and they are fairly short. Matalan are teeny. Must be so uncomfortable to wear.

DD wears shorts from the boys section anyway as they have pockets and longer leg.

Girls shorts are so indecent, what are the designers thinking?

TLKlover · 09/07/2021 13:51

@AbsolCatly

DD is happy with primark, covers her backside but short enough to keep her cool
My DD has just bought some from Primark too and they are suitable for her, don't show too much and keeps her cool at night.

We've found New Look teen range is good too

Menora · 09/07/2021 13:52

DD’s will just shop in Boys sections for larger items
Primark usually!

SometimesIFeedTheSparrows · 09/07/2021 13:54

ASOS mens size XS might suit? My skinny male 14 year and female 15 year old are wearing their pjs at the moment.

soughsigh · 09/07/2021 13:54

OMG, this drives me mental as an adult! Why are female pyjama shorts so short and uncomfortable?

I sew so have made my own that don't give me an all night wedgie.

TiredButDancing · 09/07/2021 13:57

I am not sure how good the adult/older kids are but we buy pjs from character.com. I find them very good. Of course, it's all cutesy brands etc so might not be what teenagers want!

Seriouslymole · 09/07/2021 13:58

YADNBU - it's ridiculous - even just normal shorts are like hot-pants for girls at the moment. Why? My DD is 10 but ludicrously tall with ridiculously long legs - she hates the fact that all shorts are SO shorts. I've commissioned some from DM who sews to make her some slightly longer culotte-type ones but it's just stupid you can't buy decent lengths shorts or PJs.

TheOrigRights · 09/07/2021 14:00

My Sainsbury TU ones are neither to the knee or showing my cheeks - just standard shorts length, and I am tall.
A 6 would probably be way too big though. I have an 8 and they are plenty roomy for me.

You know what I'd do? Get normal bottoms and cut them to the length your want and make pockets with the cut off
