AIBU - Teenage girls pyjamas with shorts?

I have 3 teenage DDs,2 of them want summer pyjamas with shorts but all I can find are those sexy short shorts which show off half your arse cheeks, they really don’t want these. DD2 prefers unisex clothes anyway so wears men’s small pyjama shorts with a plain T-shirt. DD3 would like shorts to the knee as well but in more girly colours not blue/black/grey which is all the lens choices seem to be plus she’s 5 foot 4 and 6 stone 5 so even a men’s small will be too small for her (a women’s size 6 is too big too).

It’s this old sexist thing men’s/boys pyjamas come to the knee yet girls/women’s have to be half way up their arse. I’ve looked in M&S and I can get cropped ones instead I though the more “mature” ladies shops might be better, she hates nighties.

If it bothers you, why not buy normal pyjamas and shorten the trouser legs down to whatever length you regard as appropriate?

New look

Boomer maybe OP didn't look on Amazon as she doesn't like supporting a business which doesn't pay tax?

RoseZinfandel · 09/07/2021 16:17

We had this problem!
I bought one eye wateringly expensive Boden set, and cut some of dd's outgrown long pyjama trousers to knee length and hemmed them with wonderweb, and she wears them with an old t shirt.

hullaballoo19 · 09/07/2021 16:21

I recently got some decent ones from Matalan

MenaiMna · 09/07/2021 16:31

La redoute boys size 14y or 16 y, even some girls in styles in that age range will be knee length.

Frenchfancy · 09/07/2021 16:51

Either cut down longer trousers and hem, or make your own. PJ bottoms are the easiest things to make, there are loads of free patterns on the internet.

New look 925 range is good for the unsexy pjs and my go to for my nieces www.newlook.com/uk/girls/clothing/nightwear/girls-pale-blue-kindness-planet-logo-short-pyjama-set/p/682284849

The new look site is so refreshing. Girls looking like girls, no sexualisation, no trying too hard, just fresh faced girls. Well done New Look!

weegiepower · 09/07/2021 18:36

I was in primark today and they actually had a range of longer length short pjs, stuck with me because I hadn't noticed them in there before!

sweetkitty · 09/07/2021 19:12

Thanks everyone for your recommendations, it’s really difficult to get DD3 clothes of any type as she’s fussy plus she’s got really long legs and no waist so even a size 4 if I can find them is too big for her. Teen sizes tend to be too short for her legs but women’s too large for her waist. I’ve found Next age 13 long school trousers fit her thankfully Grin

I’ll order some from M&S she how she likes them, she doesn’t like the tightness of cycling shorts she wants to the knee like her brother has unfortunately. Maybe the only thing to do is dust off the sewing machine

Amazon have some really nice sets. DD has 4 in different colours / styles.

LolaSmiles · 09/07/2021 20:06

I've got some from primark that have washed brilliantly for years without bobbling or fading. They're mid to upper thigh and very comfortable.

George at Asda also used to do nice ones.

TwoLeftElbows · 09/07/2021 20:15

Elasticated waist shouldn't even need a machine to take in. Unpick a bit of the seam, tie a knot in the elastic, a few hand stitches to close - as long as you can see them IRL and can pick the easy ones.

Royalbloo · 09/07/2021 20:18

Buy boys ones or normal shorts? Or those in older shops which cover their arse?

Royalbloo · 09/07/2021 20:20

My DD has boys pjs - she's comfy and they fit?! No need for a sewing machine

MissJeanLouise · 09/07/2021 20:26

Try www.cyberjammies.co.uk , they’re not knee length but nor are they super-short, and the quality and comfort are gorgeous. The models in these are around 5’10’’, so they would be longer on your dd than the models.

BoredZelda · 09/07/2021 20:31

This has been a problem for us with shorts since DD was about 8. We buy boy stuff instead.

HelloDulling · 09/07/2021 20:34

DD has some from H&M. Shorter than knee length, but not skimpy.

Lovemusic33 · 09/07/2021 20:41

I bought some from shein that were surprisingly good.
I buy dd2’s from Next as they go up to age 16,
