AIBU - Teenage girls pyjamas with shorts?

I have 3 teenage DDs,2 of them want summer pyjamas with shorts but all I can find are those sexy short shorts which show off half your arse cheeks, they really don’t want these. DD2 prefers unisex clothes anyway so wears men’s small pyjama shorts with a plain T-shirt. DD3 would like shorts to the knee as well but in more girly colours not blue/black/grey which is all the lens choices seem to be plus she’s 5 foot 4 and 6 stone 5 so even a men’s small will be too small for her (a women’s size 6 is too big too).

It’s this old sexist thing men’s/boys pyjamas come to the knee yet girls/women’s have to be half way up their arse. I’ve looked in M&S and I can get cropped ones instead I though the more “mature” ladies shops might be better, she hates nighties.

I have long worn men's boxer shorts as pyjamas. I find them much more comfortable. I personally like the stretchy, slightly snug ones that, if I was a man with big thighs, would be snug on the thighs. But I'm not, so they're quite loose. The are shortish - mid thigh or slightly above on me but again, that's by preference. If I bought a different style, they'd be longer.

Youdiditanyway · 09/07/2021 14:01

I’ve noticed that girls shorts in general tend to be more like hot pants whereas boys are knee length. It makes no sense to me at all, I tend to buy my DD’s either cycling short style ones or plain coloured ones from the boys section.

Women's pyjamas with full length bottoms in a suitable colour then cropped and sewn to the preferred length?

TotorosCatBus · 09/07/2021 14:09

My teen dd would wear something like this

Maybe look at the retailers with teen ranges (new look, next, h and m etc even if your teen is over 16) My son could fit into age 16 M&S for a long time after he turned 16.

TotorosCatBus · 09/07/2021 14:11

Just seen you want longer than usual. Something like this?

MapGirlExtraordinaire · 09/07/2021 14:12

Who are the five people voting who think you're unreasonable for not wanting your daughters to have arse cheeks on display?

Proudboomer · 09/07/2021 14:22

Maybe the yabu are for the fact that the op can’t find any when if you go on Amazon there is pages of girls pyjamas with longer shorts for teens.

Bitofachinwag · 09/07/2021 14:25

Yes it's wrong. Boys pyjama shorts are generally much longer. Why is this?

TotorosCatBus · 09/07/2021 14:29

A reflection on what adults wear? Women usually go for a shorter style than men.

ChrissyPlummer · 09/07/2021 14:33

Asda, Sainsbury’s and M & S (I have the Snoopy ones too). I’ve got some blue ones with rainbows on, white with leopards on and blue with lemons. Asda also do separates.

SlipperFeet · 09/07/2021 14:36

Have you looked on ASOS? I usually see 'loungewear' type outfits on there that might fit the bill.

Bertramwilberforce · 09/07/2021 14:37

@beigebrownblue

marks and spencer joe cool snoopy ones mine loves those good price and wash nicely
Mine have these and love them
LookItsMeAgain · 09/07/2021 14:41

I was going to suggest Penneys (or Primark in the UK) as you can buy bottoms separately to pyjama tops there and they do cycle short style pj bottoms.

tealandteal · 09/07/2021 14:46

I have just bought some nice ones from Next with cycling short type shorts.

Redwinestillfine · 09/07/2021 14:49

Boden do nice t shirt and shorts pyjamas with knee length shorts up to age 14.

Busy77 · 09/07/2021 14:49

Try St Berts - a bit more expensive but exactly what you are looking for.

Bluntness100 · 09/07/2021 14:49

Plenty on Marks and Sparks, none of the kids ones are up their arses.

girlmom21 · 09/07/2021 14:51

Boohoo and peacocks have some nice sets with slightly longer shorts

BackforGood · 09/07/2021 14:52

My young adult dds wear them from Primark or Pep.

No bum cheeks on show here. They don't want them down by their knees though - bit warm for that in bed.

Graphista · 09/07/2021 15:01

For dd3 could you check out boys large ones? Colours might still be rubbish though

Have you looked at exercise shorts?

Next have loose thigh length jersey shorts, they've some new in slightly longer baggy shorts, lots of short pyjama sets on there with longer baggy shorts mainly Florence and Fred ones but others too

What about cycling shorts?

Another option is get cheap joggers and cut them down, you could hem if you wish but no real need.

@TheOrigRights LOVE the idea of making pockets with the off cuts. Super easy to make square ones.

Glittertwins · 09/07/2021 15:01

I got DD the mix and match pyjamas - vest type tops and baggy shorts. Think they were 2 for £8 or so on the shorts and 2 for £6 on the tops. She loves them and they don't ride up.

LowlandLucky · 09/07/2021 15:01

Buy cycle style shorts from ebay £3.99 come in every colour under the sun and last for years.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 09/07/2021 15:03

I've got loads of long shorts pjs. I can't sleep in trousers so they are my go to. Sainsburys are normally pretty good for that. I'm 5'8 and haven't personally noticed that it's all short shorts.

Glittertwins · 09/07/2021 15:03

From M&S, sorry forgot that but!

HunterHearstHelmsley · 09/07/2021 15:06

@Proudboomer

Exactly. I voted for YABU as its simply not true that all women's pyjama shorts are tiny
