A man with dignity, man mangement skills and good communication skills, while also being able to adapt to changing situations?

Yes please.

Teaandbicciesplease · 08/07/2021 10:55

And looks good in a suit.

murasaki · 08/07/2021 10:56

That too.

RickiTarr · 08/07/2021 10:57

DM him! Grin

spinningspaniels · 08/07/2021 10:58

I said the exact same thing last night.

Though I'm missing the waistcoat.

The Tories are concerned that he is 'deep woke', that he's a danger to them because he shows compassion and humility, and they're the kind of ideas that they don't want normal people getting in their heads.

The thing I like about him, is that he listens to others, he knows he doesn't know everything so he seeks out expertise in his decision making process. Such a simple idea, yet others find it so difficult to even contemplate.

RickiTarr · 08/07/2021 11:01

He’s very easy on the eye, too. We never get ornamental PMs. Sad

Did you see The Poke's tweet summaries over the weekend? Very funny (and true)

Yep. He's classy.

God, who'd wish that thankless job on him! Poor bloke. Let him get on with what he's good at

murasaki · 08/07/2021 11:08

my sister met him on holiday in the nineties. I'm a Villa fan (he was playing for us at the time), she is Birmingham City, so big rivals, both of which she told him. Apparently he and his family were charming. I was very jealous.

He's good at leadership, unity and building people up instead of diminishing them, scaring them and dividing them. That's exactly what we need.

He's just so competent, isn't he? He couldn't possibly go into politics, imagine how his BP would be after a couple of meetings with that shower...

longwayoff · 08/07/2021 11:36

Football has left me totally unmoved for the majority of my life. Until Gareth turned up. He's a proper Grown Up and I admire his ethos. Yes, please offer to make him PM. Sadly, being the sensible chap he appears to be, he'd turn it down.

Tal45 · 08/07/2021 11:43

Nope can't imagine it.

x2boys · 08/07/2021 11:47

I'm delighted that England are in the final and think Gareth Southgate has done a brilliant job managing the team, I also think he has definitely grown into his looks
But he's not a politician.

Backhills · 08/07/2021 11:48

Wonderful! Does anyone know what his actual politics are? Grin

If I was anything senior to do with the Labour party, I'd be grooming Marcus Rashford as a future leader.

Earlydancing · 08/07/2021 11:51

You have no idea what he's like. He's won four football matches with a team of multi millionaires who do nothing but train and receive the ultimate care and attention.

I’ve thought this about MR too. He’s an incredible young man.

I absolutely love Gareth Southgate. So inspirational.

I loved Gary Nevilles comment last night during the commentary: "The standard of leaders in this country the past couple of years has been poor, looking at that man (Southgate), he’s everything a leader should be, respectful, humble, he tells the truth."

England wouldn't vote for a Southgate though, he would be seen as too boring as a PM or politician.

I think Starmer is trying to position himself as a corrective to the division in political and public life - the only adult in the room - but clearly it is not working, and will not work, because the public doesn't have the appetite for it. We want glamour, violence and bluster, and we're poorer for it.

To be fair, that's more than any of his recent predecessors have managed.

As for being a thankless task, being England manager is probably just as bad as being PM Grin

There are 22 other teams of multi-millionaires who do nothing but train and receive the ultimate care and attention who didn’t get to the final.
