I'm married to ketchup man

Semi light-hearted, first world problem and have name changed 🙄

I married a man who was a self declared 'foodie'. This was great, I like cooking and eating a lot.

Quite a few years in now, it transpires I'm married to ketchup man who slathers it over his food whenever he can. Steak, fancy burgers, anything with potato, nothing is safe from ketchup man. It turns out he didn't do this in the first few years of our relationship as he knew it was a bit odd.

He doesn't understand why I'm irritated by making an effort to cook a nice meal for him only for it to be covered in ketchup (roast potatoes with rosemary got ketchupped tonight).

YABU - it's okay to do this, let the man ketchup a fillet steak without rolling eyes
YANBU - cook him toddler food and don't waste flavour on him

@elp30 mmm can I come for dinner?

ToffeeNotCoffee · 05/07/2021 09:53

I also spend a good portion of my time wiping sauce off said ketchup boys faces

I love this sentence so much (insert heart emoji)

Hp on pineapple pizza.... 😀 I might try that next week!

I have raised a son who will become chillisauceman

allundercontrol · 05/07/2021 11:28

I had an ex who would cover a chicken stir fry in a criss cross layer of mayonnaise and ketchup. Not a light dusting - the entire top layer that was a mix of Mayo and ketchup. I used to feel a bit sick watching him eat it.

It's bad manners to judge or criticise someone's food but it really did make me feel unwell (and a bit pissed off that I bothered making a stir fry in the first place)

Slightly disappointed as I hoped this was going to relate somehow to Martin Goodman and Friday Night Dinner!

Although it’s beloved by everyone else in the house, I can’t stand the smell of ketchup. I tend to cover my meals in black and/or white pepper so I’m probably just as bad.

roguetomato · 05/07/2021 15:42

My dh is mayo man. It doesn't bother me at all, in fact, I found out some of them are quite nice too.

Sitting there topless eating his dinner with Jackie and Auntie Val looking on!

Awww, what a great character Martin was/is.

@Notjustanymum

Just saying😂
🤣
HotChocolateLover · 05/07/2021 16:47

Yes it’s gross but it’s not really doing any harm is it?

Pinky1952 · 05/07/2021 17:52

You're not alone. My DH puts Fruity Sauce on everything even his Christmas Dinner.

lifebeginsat16 · 05/07/2021 17:56

My husband's rules: if it's hot apply much brown sauce, if it's cold apply much pink sauce.. It's a way of adding lots of sugar, salt and vinegar if you think about it. It is a little bit heart-breaking to see a carefully flavoured meal disregarded but if he only wants to taste sauce so be it and eh eats so fast it doesn't really matter what he tastes.

ketchupman · 05/07/2021 18:03

@BlaBlaSmthSmth DH and I saw this live and we just looked at each other and couldn't stop laughing 🤣🤣🤣🤣

What a pity he’s not an adult who can put whatever the fuck he wants on his spuds.

Wait…?

sheridanstar · 05/07/2021 18:23

Stop being such a control freak, let him eat his food however he wants.

riceuten · 05/07/2021 18:24

If he likes ketchup on everything....he's no-one's definition of a foodie

KatherineJaneway · 05/07/2021 18:41

I think it’s absolutely none of your business and definitely doesn’t mean he doesn’t like good food Shock

Of course it does. If he can't eat a meal without it being covered in ketchup, he can't appreciate decent food. Can you imagine, he'd go to Le Gavroche and ask for ketchup on the Soufflé Suissesse

NewlyGranny · 05/07/2021 18:48

It's the having put the effort in to make something delicious with finely balanced flavours that makes it hard to watch someone smother their portion with Tabasco/ketchup/ vinegar or whatever without even tasting it first. That is disrespectful to the cook.

Anyone who does this might just as well be offered a burger 7 nights a week. 🤷🏼‍♀️

PierrethePenis · 05/07/2021 18:49

We used to do this with Mum’s food. Only way to make it edible. Except Sunday roast which was the only thing she could cook.

Linnty · 05/07/2021 18:52

The man here is an HP sauce addict. ANYthing potato has to be slathered. Adds it to already flavoursome curries. I don’t mind, it’s his stomach! Also salts and peppers without tasting first.

chocolateorangeinhaler · 05/07/2021 18:53

This really boils my piss when the very people who preach about trying different foods slather it in salt/pepper/sauce before trying it.
It's really disrespectful to the person who made it.

TheDoctorDances · 05/07/2021 18:54

@SimonJT

I’m a chilli sauce man, unless I’ve cooked it it needs chilli sauce. I only ever ate one meal out that didn’t require an addition of chilli sauce,

Surely ketchup is perfect for steak, burgers and potato things?

Are you my DP? He puts chilli sauce on everyyything
Jakki2019 · 05/07/2021 18:57

I have one of those, DH puts Daddies sauce on everything, what’s worse though is he tries to get me to put it on my food too!

AppleWax · 05/07/2021 19:04

I have salad cream man here Confused

nocturnalcatfreetogoodhome · 05/07/2021 19:19
