1 school bag
1 lunch box
1 pencil case
1 water bottle
1 school book bag
1 school gym bag
2 pairs of gym shorts
2 school polos for gym
1 hoodie for gym
1 pair gym shoes
1 pair of school shoes
1 school waterproof fleece lined jacket

6 school shirts
4 school pinafores
1 school skirt
5 cardigans
5 pack knee high socks
5 pack white frill socks
3 pairs of tights

Will she need 5 cardigans? We have never needed any more than 2. Would she also need 4 dresses and a skirt?

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 04/07/2021 15:05

I think at primary mine had 5 shirts + 2 trousers + 2 school jumpers / sweatshirts + (maybe later in the year) 1 or 2 plain supermarket sweatshirts. Then PE kit (shorts + T-shirt), gym shoes, and school shoes.

Daffodilsforspring · 04/07/2021 15:05

More tights!

4PawsGood · 04/07/2021 15:07

Are you able to do any washing during the week?
I could put a load on if I had to, so we had two or three pinafores/cardigans.

MarjorieBouvier · 04/07/2021 15:08

Primary? They do not need 2 sets of gym kit. 1 will do.

dementedpixie · 04/07/2021 15:09

Our school didn't have a gym bag or book bag. Mine didn't wear jumpers or cardigans

4PawsGood · 04/07/2021 15:09

I’d check what they actually use too, see what existing children use for school bag/book bag/blazer.
Ie do they use them at all.

BikeRunSki · 04/07/2021 15:09

More tights. No point in having clean shirt/skirt/carry every day if you run out of tights mid week in the winter.

Bovrilly · 04/07/2021 15:10

Don't think you need a bag and a book bag, ours just used one or the other.

How often is PE? We had one set of kit and washed it between lessons.

4 x shirts, 2 x pinafores, 2 x cardigans would be fine, wash once mid week.

Not sure you would need 10 pairs of socks and 3 pairs of tights but maybe they just come in a multipack.

MarjorieBouvier · 04/07/2021 15:10

And why book bag and school bag? 1 or the other, not both. Check with the school about pencil case, most don't need or possibly don't even allow pencil cases from home.

We've found 2 school jumpers/cardis are enough, but I would get another PE hoodie. Our school do PE more than once plus forest school (which needs PE kit). 5 pairs of tights are needed for winter, and you might need vests if you have a child that gets cold easily. You need another water bottle and lunch box in case it is dropped or left at school one day, and a cheap spare coat is a good idea in case the other gets soaked/coveredin mud/lost etc (ours are usually second hand bargains). At our school they aren't allowed their own pencil case until yr3 - have they specified it? Do you need wellies to keep in school?
sharksarecool · 04/07/2021 15:15

You only need one set of gym stuff.
You need either a book bag or a achool bag, but not both.
You dont need a pencil case as they supply all pencils etc untill at least halfway up primary school. 2 cardigans is probably plenty.
Check to see whether you definitely need school branded waterproof, as this will be more expensive.
I assume from the blazer that it's a private school? Did they give you this list? If so, take with a pinch of salt as they might get money from uniform and therefore incentivised to sell you unnecessary extras

Cocomarine · 04/07/2021 15:16

Perfect amount if you can only use a laundrette once a week!

That’s LOADS!

Why would she need 2 PE kits? Do they do PE every day?

For cardigans / skirts / pinafores / shirts I went by “one on, one off, one in the wash” - and even then, 3 were too many and I gave brand new with tags items to the PTA sale.

I’d say 3 of those for total comfort, but 2 is just fine if you need to cut the budget - as you can always hand wash.

You don’t need 5 each of long and short socks, but they’re cheap and come in 5s often, so fine.

And no frilled short socks… but that’s only because I hate them 🤣

The only thing I’d say more of is tights.

Also on your large number of pinafores/skirts and shirts… are you actually buying for 2 terms? Because in my experience all the girls switched to gingham dresses / playsuits even in late spring term - and there’s a good chance she’ll outgrow them before the next September.

SkankingMopoke · 04/07/2021 15:17

Oh, also there doesn't seem to be any joggers for PE on your list.

Cocomarine · 04/07/2021 15:18

Just on PE - my youngest daughter’s school did it twice a week and only “sent home” (as in prompted the kids to take them) kit bags at half term. I promise you in KS1 she was not bringing home disgusting stinky kit. They weren’t working up a sweat or rolling in mud.

I think my standards are lower than MN 🤣 but honestly - this was the same for the whole class, so I’m sure not just me.

dementedpixie · 04/07/2021 15:19

Mine never wore joggers for PE. Always shorts and t-shirt

stressfuljune · 04/07/2021 15:21

Never had more than one PE kit.
We have 3 jumpers and that's fine. I just give them a quick wipe. Dito skirts etc

CiaoForNiao · 04/07/2021 15:24

Mine had
Shirts x 5
Trousers x 2
Jumpers x 2
Rucksack
Lunchbox
Water bottle.
Socks x 5pairs.
Pe Shorts x 1
Pe top x 1
Plimsolls
School shoes

It was plenty. I washed every weekend. PE kit came home weekly/half termly depending on teacher.

santabetterwashhishands · 04/07/2021 15:27

One pe kit ,two full uniforms and same with socks 🤷‍♀️
It's easy enough with a washer/dryer

Terrazzo · 04/07/2021 15:28

FIVE cardigans? DS is a mucky pup and we manage with 2 jumpers.

PE at the mo is 2x a week and they go in wearing the kit in the morning - covid 🤷🏻‍♀️ but prior to that PE kit stayed in school for a whole half term and came home in a good state, not foul.

Nat6999 · 04/07/2021 15:29

The joggers are for PE day, lots of schools expect pupils to come to school in PE kit on PE day & for outdoor games.

RaindropsOnRosie · 04/07/2021 15:30

Wait until they work out whether they prefer pinafore, trousers or skirt and tights/socks. Also cardigan/jumper. There's no need for 5 cardigans at all.

You only need a book bag OR a school bag. Get a lunchabag with a handle and drinks holder attached.

socks and tights seem fine, they'll last a while but you may need to pick up a couple more pairs of tights in the winter as mud never seems to wash out of grey or pale tights properly and they can get saggy and scruffy easily.

DustyMaiden · 04/07/2021 15:31

I would say that would be perfect and convenient but not necessary. Two PE kits is good as every time you take one home to wash you leave the other. Five sets of clothes let’s you never need to wash anything during the week.

BrieAndChilli · 04/07/2021 15:31

I had 5 outfits with all of mine as they couldn’t wear more than once due to paint/ mud/food/juice/glue/glitter/snot/felt tip/wee or whatever on them most days! (To be fair my eldest had a medical issue that meant he wet home self so we had about 15 sets of uniform for him! So I might be skewed in My thinking) but DD would always come home with some sort of art related mess on her!

Heckythump1 · 04/07/2021 15:34

You won't need a pencil case in reception.... probably not in primary at all.
