Feeling quite upset about backlash to Covid test

I have a really bad pain coming from my breast bone on the right hand side going round to my lungs. It is making me a bit breathless when i walk or move about - ie up the stairs. I was up all night and eventually after an hour got through to 111. They asked if i had any Covid symptoms and i told them that i had a bit of a scratchy throat and lung pain. The Dr. said i could see my GP tomorrow but I might as well get a Covid test because the GP would probably advise me to get it anyway. Everyone is shouting at me saying I don't need a test. My son and his girlfriend were going out for lunch with her family and aren't going any more. I have been told I shouldn't have told them. My boss will go mental. My DH is also going crazy at me. I don't see what I've done wrong but apparently I have.

Why are they going crazy and cancelling things?

ScottishNewbie · 04/07/2021 14:11

Surely there is no problem unless you actually get a positive test? Seems like a massive overreaction.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/07/2021 14:11

Well, you do need medical help and if that's the only way you can get it, what on eart are you supposed to do?

GiantWingedWaspMoth · 04/07/2021 14:13

Must be great to live in a house with people that are clearly more medically qualified than the people that are employed by 111.

You haven't done anything wrong.

Prestel · 04/07/2021 14:13

As above I don't understand why those around you are making a fuss. It only affects them if you test positive. Ruling out Covid before making an appointment with a GP to explore your seems like pretty sensible advice from 111. It's not your fault you're unwell. Those around you should be more sympathetic and supportive, not having a go at you. Hope you feel better soon.

dementedmummy · 04/07/2021 14:13

Covid19 presents in different forms. Go get a covid19 test done and you will probably have the results this evening - job done. Negative result - one illness ruled out and your doctor can focus on getting to the route of the problem. Postive - well at least you know why you are ill. Your family are being ridiculous as is your boss. Its ok to be ill. Its ok to have covid19. How selfish do people need to be to not be concerned about how ill their mum/wife is? Look after yourself because it appears no one else is going to do it. Virtual hugs because you appear to be surrounded by nutty people!

MouldyPotato · 04/07/2021 14:14

They are reacting really weirdly. Just get the test done then you'll know either way.

minipie · 04/07/2021 14:17

Well the issue is that you are only supposed to PCR if you have one of the three “key” symptoms (yes I know there can be loads of other symptoms but that’s the rules)

If you have any of these three symptoms, you and your household need to isolate until your result comes back.

So if you decide that you have symptoms and need to PCR, you are effectively deciding everyone in your household has to cancel everything and stay home for the next day or two.

Your symptoms are not the three that require you to PCR. Personally I would have waited till seeing the GP…

Thelnebriati · 04/07/2021 14:17

This is what scapegoating looks like - they don't want to hear bad news and it sounds like they will blame you if you test positive.

catsatonmymat · 04/07/2021 14:17

Thank you so much for our support - I'm in tears here - I think they are fed up with me because i had misdiagnosed back fractures which are still causing me problems6 months down the line - they all told me not to go to A and E and every doctor said it was soft tissue and it turned out to be two fractures - I'm still in a lot of pain but this is different - this is at my lungs. I think they think i am acting it.

Thelnebriati · 04/07/2021 14:18

They don't sound at all supportive, I'm trying to imagine how I'd react if someone I loved had two fractures in their back, and its not like this Flowers

CryptoFascist · 04/07/2021 14:19

Just get a test, you don't need to ask your family for permission.

FeatheredHope · 04/07/2021 14:21

I’m sorry you seem to be surrounded by unsupportive arseholes.
Put yourself and your well-being first. Get a test.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 04/07/2021 14:22

Are they worried they'll have to self isolate if you're positive. I hope they're not that selfish. Look after yourself and rest as much as possible

Theunamedcat · 04/07/2021 14:22

What a bunch of idiots

BeneficiaryMadness · 04/07/2021 14:23

Please please go to the hospital, I had a pulmonary embolism and it sounds very very similar, go and get it checked out

Crunchymum · 04/07/2021 14:24

Are they annoyed as they all have to isolate, pending results?

You don't need one of the main symptoms if 111 advise you to test?

Blackwidow47 · 04/07/2021 14:25

I’m so sorry you are not getting support from the very people who should be surrounding you in love and letting you rest.
Please get your test which if negative lets the Dr rule it out. Wishing you a speedy recovery, it sounds like you’ve had an awful time.

lobsterkiller · 04/07/2021 14:26

Bloody awful response. im sorry, i hope you're better soon, but get a test. Mine had a quick turnaround.

DahliaMacNamara · 04/07/2021 14:26

They sound a pain in the arse. What are you meant to do? With my GP, you practically have to certify yourself Covid-free before they'll let you over the threshold.
Sympathy on the fractures too. Really, really not fun.

Dee1975 · 04/07/2021 14:26

There is no need for any of them to cancel anything, unless you test positive. Or am I misreading your post op? I don’t really understand it? What and why are they cancelling?
You’ve been asked to do a test so you can see your GP. Not because you have the main symptoms. Many households do regular lat flow tests. Just because you are doing a test doesn't mean you or anyone needs to cancel anything.

3cats2kids · 04/07/2021 14:27

Your family are being so harsh. You have done everything right and it sounds like you need medical attention. Please get help.Flowers

FuckUcuntychops · 04/07/2021 14:28

Fucking hell OP you love with a bunch of pricks. Get your test and then get rid of the lot of them. Twats.

ineedaholidaynow · 04/07/2021 14:29

You can get PCR test if advised by certain organisations eg schools are now asking contacts to get them, in certain areas, so assume 111 advice counts too

catsatonmymat · 04/07/2021 14:29

My understanding is that they go about their daily business unless I test position. One of my sons was kind and took me to the test centre. I just don't get the way they are being with me.
