She was a style icon yet she’s in one of those frumpy waist belts that were only in fashion briefly. The face does nothing to represent how beautiful she was. It’s too harsh.

Unfortunately the head is marginally too large. It fails to capture any of Diana’s spark and instead she looks rather soulless, like a human embodiment in The Terminator. Zero tip for the sculptor 😕

@ThursdayWeld

"The brother I like behaved well. The one I don't like behaved awfully!!!"
I guess lots of people will agree with you even though they have a totally different opinion on who behaved well and who didn't.
Marcipex · 01/07/2021 22:24

I think her face looks masculine too, and she was much slimmer than that, and much prettier.
I assume W&H approved it though.

BirdsandBeesmakinghay · 01/07/2021 22:26

I’ve just seen it on the news. It’s even worse than seeing it on my phone. I do wonder whether Diana’s family really liked it.

Vicliz24 · 01/07/2021 22:30

The stance and her figure are spot on and her legs are exactly the same as hers were but I don't remember her Christopher Reeve jawline . I really wish it had movement. Diana was so animated.

What's going on with the ghost child at the back? Couldn't see 3 in the video but you can in the picture. Creepy.

Also, the prince's looked like they did a double tale when they unveiled it. I don't think they like it either. Quick to rush off

MrsFin · 01/07/2021 22:37

Off topic, but Haz is looking very bald in the clip posted below.
It's about time he did a William and cut his hair a lot shorter.

EishetChayil · 01/07/2021 22:42

I thought it was some sort of Pride drag thing Blush

Acheyneck · 01/07/2021 22:42

It's terrible looks like Anne Robinson

They were involved in the whole design. Apparently, they visited the sculptor's studio four or five times during the process.

Took me a while but it looks a lot like Robbie savage from his time on Strictly….

It’s hideous and tasteless.

Backstreetsbackalrightdadada · 01/07/2021 22:48

bronze is such a harsh looking material… tbh it’s a bit naff and doesn’t look like her. Like they’ve included diverse kids but a bit random to have unknown kids in there - or are they based on actual ones she helped? That’d be sweet

Bumblenums1234 · 01/07/2021 22:50

I think they got to a point of non return with it, Harry could hardly look at it at the unveiling. I really don't understand the hidden child.

FannyCann · 01/07/2021 22:53

OP that link you posted (19:39) to all the pictures of Diana squatting down to speak to children is making my knees hurt. Somehow seeing so many pictures of the same pose emphasises how it was her signature move. I don't know how she did it, always staying elegant, especially as her heels got higher! I've reached an age where, if I get down like that, to pick something up maybe, it's an effort getting back up and I feel it in my knees. I wonder if Diana would still be doing this at 60?

midsomermurderess · 01/07/2021 23:10

This in the Guardian 'an awkward, lifeless shrine ... a spiritless hunk of nonsense' seems to shine with the views of many here.

Pigeons really aren't that picky, though.
Staffy1 · 01/07/2021 23:26

Not the nicest image of her. It looks grumpy around the eyes and down turned mouth, yet in most pictures she was smiling. It also looks a bit chunky and heavy set, not as slim as she was.

dopenguinsdance · 01/07/2021 23:28

Like this one that Giovanni Strazza managed about 170 years ago,

Mistressofnone · 01/07/2021 23:30

The child on the right would look about 25 if she wasn't next to Princess Diana. Earrings look like clip-ons.

I think they should have used a pose from her own Christmas cards, such as her sitting on a bench (outside Taj Mahal). Or the image of her arms outstretched greeting her boys on the boat.

Angrycat2768 · 01/07/2021 23:33

Apparently it's also engraved with a shit version of a mediocre poem 😄 What were they thinking??

SunSeaSurfGin · 01/07/2021 23:36

Couldn't tell if he has developed a bald patch or if it was the sun
IndecentCakes · 01/07/2021 23:40

Definitely needs an albatross.

SionnachRua · 01/07/2021 23:47

It's dreadful. Not quite Ronaldo bust levels of dreadful but it has no warmth or spark to it. Something a bit tactile would have been lovely, maybe if people could sit with her.... Diana was all about people and this is such a cold looking piece.

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 01/07/2021 23:48

Re the 'hidden child, looking at photos online he's very clear from the side view.
