Year 6 leavers event

sneakypetestolemywife · 30/06/2021 20:42

If you have kids in year 6 who are leaving to go to senior school or are a teacher or TA for year 6 can you please fill me in with what the school is doing to make this term special.
My son's school have cancled the PGL, disco and day out and are doing nothing and I want to raise this with the head because I'm sure it's not the norm.
AIBU to expect something fun for them and not just exams for their last few weeks before hitting big school?

Parents are also not able to go to sports day and there isn't even a video or stream of it we can watch

The yr6 at our school camped on the school field since they couldn't go on their residential.

(My yr3 is going on a day trip next week.)

Flowerlane · 30/06/2021 20:50

We have coming up in the next two weeks
Prom
Private hire of a trampoline park for the afternoon
Leavers service
Outdoor cinema day
Camping on school grounds with bbq etc
2 outdoor sports activities.

Such a shame that some schools are cancelling.

tiredanddangerous · 30/06/2021 20:52

Leavers assembly held outside on the field, followed by a bbq

Hellocatshome · 30/06/2021 20:53

We are having a leavers picnic/assembly/awards ceremony on the field.

HowdenMinster · 30/06/2021 20:54

Went on their residential last week.
Leavers Assembly.,
Final school production.
I think they are still trying to sort a day trip.

Separately from school, parents have organised a party in local community centre.

ButterflyBitch · 30/06/2021 20:55

They’re having a leavers party after school. Slip and slide, inflatables, food etc.
Camp is going ahead but it’s long weekend not 5 days as been postponed so many times.
Limited numbers of parents who have to wear masks and be socially distanced can watch the year 6 play. They’ve added an extra performance to allow for stricter numbers.
So they’re doing the best they can for the kids within the restrictions. Which is great. My son is really enjoying rehearsing the play and planning things.

sunshineandshowers40 · 30/06/2021 20:56

Leavers party (no parents)
Leavers concert (outside, 1 parent)

Leavers hoodie for each child
Activity day in school

They really should be able to do something.

blackteaplease · 30/06/2021 20:57

Residential, daytrip to a waterpark and leavers hoodies. No news on an assembly yet and the parents organise the disco.

Cally70 · 30/06/2021 20:57

Our school are doing nothing. Their residential was cancelled. They don't even get a day trip like every other year. They're doing nothing fun at school. It's a really rubbish end to juniors

Some parents have organised a leavers' party on the last day of term.

Lindy2 · 30/06/2021 20:58

The year 6s are doing camping in the school grounds and a day out at an outdoor activities place.

The whole school are doing sports day but no parents allowed on site to watch. If you really wanted though you could probably unofficially watch through the fence from outside the school grounds.

Datsandcogs · 30/06/2021 20:58

Lots been cancelled, lots not happened but school have still made a real effort to make some special events. No PGL, no performance, no parents at sports day or swimming galas, not school’s fault. They had a language day, a camp out and they have a festival (outdoor party) with pizza and ice cream coming up.

actiongirl1978 · 30/06/2021 20:58

Ours have camped on the school field and had a week of off curriculum activities such as swimming and cookery.

They are having a bbq and water fight after school, a leavers assembly on the field (parents can't go Angry) and on the last day after school the parents have arranged a large class trip to an outdoor inflatable pool place. Also hoodies etc.

cariadlet · 30/06/2021 20:58

PGL cancelled but year 6 are having activity days this week. Various trips but I don't teach year 6 so I'm not sure where they're going.

Leavers' party at the end of term.

purplesequins · 30/06/2021 20:59

my y6 is doing a 'week of memories'
they have different all day activities all week. today they went to a forest to build dens and rope swings you should have seen the state of them when they got home!
tomorrow will be sports day (again all day) followed by campfire with smorgasbord, songs and scary stories.
also art activities and a treasure hunt and other activities.
teachers upload somd photos on the class app.

Love the end part of your message. 🤣🤣 sounds like your rubbing it in ops face. I know you're not though. Haha.
DirtyDancing · 30/06/2021 21:02

Year 2 leaver so not as significant as a year 6 and we have

  • sport day- 1 parent allowed to attend only
  • end of year day trip
  • leavers picnic
  • online leavers assembly

YANBU- to do nothing is unfair/ zero effort. Have you had a lot of covid issues?

Lovelydovey · 30/06/2021 21:02

Residential was cancelled.
No disco.
No assemblies with parents etc.
No parents at sports day.

But they are doing:
Leavers hoodies - £15 each
Class productions to be recorded and shared with parents (not a whole year group as bubbles don’t allow for that)
Class party - the same as the rest of the school. And we have had to pay for that rather than just providing food and drink donations.

Blinking miserable in my opinion.

modgepodge · 30/06/2021 21:03

Year 6 teacher here. Residential went ahead as normal a few weeks back. Sports day happening as usual,parents/spectators limited to 2 per child, will be kept in groups of 30 or less in pens round the field. Working out the details of the leavers assembly t hoping to have parents there in some way. Y6 production going ahead, limited tickets per family. Year 6 families usually have a big party on the last day after school, they arrange this. Not sure if this is going ahead still.

phlebasconsidered · 30/06/2021 21:03

We have done hoodies, a remote filmed play, a remote filmed leavers assembly, memory books and photo cds. We will also have a pizza and bbq on the last day and make tie dye t shirts. Our sports day is also remote as per government guidance.

I don't think any of the year 6 will feel hard done by. Most of them are desperate to have a holiday and break. They'd rather be kept covid free and still able to do that, as would I. Given our local rates rise, 99% of the parents have agreed.

It's not just schools. My sons cadet camp has also been postponed, as has daughters guide camp. It is what it is- a safer holiday period is what we all need.

gogojojo · 30/06/2021 21:04

Our school have organised a school funded school trip (that's never happened before) which is fun rather than educational, we're also having a leaver assembly - they have split class into 2 groups each doing a separate assembly to keep numbers down and school are providing leavers hoodies

The parents have also arranged a disco in a local social club with loads of treats for the kids - this is still on the balance due to COVID restrictions though

I'd be asking your school why they can't do something to make this a memorable and fun for them especially after such a hard year

Flumpmaster · 30/06/2021 21:04

Been to PGL last week, leavers show, but being filmed rather than performed in front of parents. Hopefully a leavers presentation evening after 19 July, and parents are organising a party after school. Think the school are doing other fun stuff in school, but we've not been told everything.

IggyAce · 30/06/2021 21:05

Year 5 & 6 go on their residential on Friday it was supposed to happen in September.
There is a leavers concert which will be via Zoom.

pembelimum · 30/06/2021 21:07

Day trip to a theme park and end of year production

NichyNoo · 30/06/2021 21:08

Nothing official happening at our school as apparently even an outdoors assembly is too dangerous Hmm Residential also cancelled. So the mums have clubbed together to organise a big party in a kind parent’s huge garden. £20 per kid with loads of activities put on. Plus another parent has organised leavers hoodies. Not telling the school.
