Name for our baby girl-

I prefer the shortened version Joules, does it look like I am copying the clothing brand?

Yes it does and that was my first thought but it's entirely up to you!

Veuvelily · 20/06/2021 09:53

Juliet!

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 20/06/2021 09:53

Or jewels? WinkGrin

KingscoteStaff · 20/06/2021 09:53

Christen Juliet/Julia, call her Jules.

Joules is a brand.

Rumplestrumpet · 20/06/2021 09:54

Give her a proper name on her birth certificate, and then you can spell it any way you like as a nickname.

dementedpixie · 20/06/2021 09:54

Made me think of a unit of energy (kJ)
I know a Juliet that gets shortened to Jules

Takeoutyourhen · 20/06/2021 09:55

Jools Oliver is Juliet. Joules would need explanation of the spelling. The energy unit or the clothing brand…

UhtredRagnarson · 20/06/2021 09:55

Is none of them an option?

Bagamoyo1 · 20/06/2021 09:55

@KingscoteStaff

Christen Juliet/Julia, call her Jules.

Joules is a brand.

The only Julia I know is Juju anyway, but Joules is far too obviously the name of a shop. How often does one, realistically, write down a diminutive like that anyway (unless you are Mrs Jamie Oliver)

Weenurse · 20/06/2021 09:57

Juliana?

TheKeatingFive · 20/06/2021 09:58

I’d go for Juliet known as jules, but not sure how much it matters how the nickname is spelt.

Blueskytoday06 · 20/06/2021 09:58

Joules will be forever written as Jules. And it's the name of a shop (I love the shop).

PurpleyBlue · 20/06/2021 09:59

It's a unit of energy and also yes.

wanderedlonelyasacloud · 20/06/2021 09:59

I've known one Jules and one Jools

I think Joules does seem a bit like copying the brand but I'm not sure that really matters to be honest!

Scarby9 · 20/06/2021 10:00

Joules is definitely an energy unit or a brand (named after founder Tom Joule).
Julie, Juliet, Juliette or Julietta on the birth certificate and call her Jules for everyday, spelt however you want.
I predict that she will change the spelling anyway. I was at school with a Julie who has been Jules, Jools, Joolz, Juju and Jewels over the years. Currently (aged 60) signs herself Joolz.

notanothertakeaway · 20/06/2021 10:01

Julia / Juliet / juliette / Julie / Julianne known as Jules / Jools

I wouldn't go for Joules

Lockheart · 20/06/2021 10:02

Give her the real name on the birth certificate (Juliet) then her nickname can be whatever you like.

Namechangedlady · 20/06/2021 10:02

There's no reason to add letters to a nickname to make people think it is 'unique'.

Jules is the logical spelling for a nickname from Julia/Juliet. Why would you want to add a random 'o' in there?

PhoenixReincarnated · 20/06/2021 10:03

I'm occasionally called Jules, although more often other things. My first thought on reading your post was that Joules was the name of a brand.

I'd go with Juliet/Julia/Julie on the bc and Jules as a nickname.

Permanentlygrumpy · 20/06/2021 10:03

Julia
Julie
Julianna/e
Juliette
These names can all be shortened to Jools as a nickname.

Waspsarearseholes · 20/06/2021 10:05

I think you'd cringe at 'Joules' in a few years' time. In a similar vein to Chanel/Armani/Gucci as names. At least they are designer I suppose!

Seeline · 20/06/2021 10:07

Give her a proper name and then let her decide if she wants a nick name or to shorten her name in some way.

Joules/Jules/etc all sound daft as a proper name. She is going to be stuck with it for the rest of her life, not just as a cute 2 year old.

GlutenFreeGingerCake · 20/06/2021 10:09

I'd have one of the formal Julia names I like all the different versions, with nickname Jools I just like the fun spelling for a nickname.

Yes it does and it's also the SI Unit for energy.
