2 weeks ago I was in the pub with my gfs and we got a bit merry and started to sing. We were given a warning and told we would have to leave if we continued. Last night when the footie was on all the men in the pub stood up and say the national antham, they were hugging and chanting, shouting the lot and yet nothing was said.

Sports days cancelled, weddings and furnerals restricted. How the hell is this is fair!

Ilovemaisie · 19/06/2021 20:09

Was your singing terrible?

Ilovemaisie · 19/06/2021 20:09

The current rules are baffling. There is a music festival going on in my local park today and tomorrow.

Baileysforchristmas · 19/06/2021 20:10

Totally agree, 100’s of children self isolating for 10 days, under house arrest, you can’t sing and dance at weddings, it’s so hypocritical.

user1471517900 · 19/06/2021 20:11

Not entirely sure the Euros are to blame here. More the people disobeying the rules.

Rachie1973 · 19/06/2021 20:11

You kinda expect the football noise if you go in a pub that’s showing it.

You don’t expect or want several dreadfully out of tune punters warbling at you though.

MrsDThomas · 19/06/2021 20:12

Got to be your singing 🤷🏼‍♀️

PrimulaPrimrose · 19/06/2021 20:12

It's all gone beyond ridiculous this last week.

Fangsalot89 · 19/06/2021 20:12

To be fair, if you go to a pub during a big sports tournament it comes part of the gig to hear tonnes of singing, if you go to the pub to have a drink with your mates at any other point and hear a group of boozed up people singing loudly, to be fair, not everyone wants to hear it.

Moutarde · 19/06/2021 20:12

Because football. So so important in so many little men's minds.

Oh, and serious amounts of £ obvs....

Ellpellwood · 19/06/2021 20:14

An anti-football thread on Mumsnet, that's already turned anti-men. How original.

Meltinthemiddle · 19/06/2021 20:14

I expect the rules to apply to all!! We can't sing or dance to music but they can chant, sing and shout and jump around hugging each other. All these euro celebrations are taking the piss.

OP posts:
PrimulaPrimrose · 19/06/2021 20:15

I'm not anti football at all.

Meltinthemiddle · 19/06/2021 20:15

Singing to music and dancing!

OP posts:
Ellpellwood · 19/06/2021 20:15

Were they really jumping around and hugging each other, when the match was 0-0? That's odd.

Enjoyingmyciffee · 19/06/2021 20:17

Nope, YA not in the least U.
We’ve observed every rule (more strictly than stipulated, had to with 2 CEV loved ones) and the 2020 lockdown was absolutely necessary.

2021 is very different, with the astonishing vaccine programme.

I can only imagine just how upset couples planning to marry, loved ones having to test, wear PPE and not touch their elderly relatives resident in care homes, professional performers, amateur choirs etc are at watching the news coverage.

Why is sport different? Only possible conclusion, bread and circuses.

Ughmaybenot · 19/06/2021 20:18

I know a few pubs where you’d have been told to shut up if you started drunkenly warbling in normal times let alone now 😂

Ughmaybenot · 19/06/2021 20:18

Oh, but I agree with you re the double standards. It’s a bit ridiculous.

tttigress · 19/06/2021 20:20

It's not really the Euros fault, it is just that the rules make no sense!

Samcro · 19/06/2021 20:23

It is making me bloody angry.
Hordes of people gathering to get drunk, they didn't even have tickets.

Yet i still can't go inside my dc care home.

Women attend a vigil, get told its not allowed.

Weird and bloody annoying.

Meltinthemiddle · 19/06/2021 20:27

We weren't even singing full on that's the point some of which people are obviously missing!

OP posts:
MadeOfStarStuff · 19/06/2021 20:27

Well YABU for singing in a pub (no one wants to hear that!) but seeing the scenes of football fans in large drunken gatherings with most of them not wearing masks is really fucking annoying considering everything we’ve all missed out on

safariboot · 19/06/2021 20:28

Last night when the footie was on all the men in the pub stood up and say the national antham, they were hugging and chanting, shouting the lot and yet nothing was said.

Because the pub owners know that trying to stop that is at best going to lose them loads of customers, and at worst could result in a brawl. Because it's men.

MapGirlExtraordinaire · 19/06/2021 20:32

But they're white men. Of course they can do what they want

lastcall · 19/06/2021 20:51

YANBU, OP. And it's infuriating to see reports that they're likely to let VIPs (hundreds of them!) enter the country for the Euro semifinals and finals and not have to adhere to covid rules like everyone else.

Rules are clearly different for some.
