AIBU to wonder if your teenage kids do this?

I dropped DD's friend home after college today and whilst chatting to her mum on their doorstep (don't know her very well) DD's friend came up behind her and put her arms around her neck and just hugged her from behind/to the side if that makes any sense! It was all very natural and sweet. Her mum just carried on chatting. I must admit I was a bit jealous as I can't imagine my DDs doing that, especially in front of their friends! We do hug as a thank you or when saying goodbye that's about it and we do have a good relationship. Would any of your teens do that?

Yes, nearly 17 year old DD would do that. My 21 year old hasnt voluntarily hugged me since she was about 12, though she wouldn't refuse a hug.

Mine would. I don't try and hug her in front of her friends, but she will quite often give me a hug and kiss if I drop her off somewhere for example.

My 11 year old still has to give good morning and good night hugs. The 17 year old happened to be around when he was doing the goodnight ones last night to me and DH and so got one too and was all What Is This and when we said he does it twice a day and when we drop him at school, just like you did at his age - well, the utter horror and disgust on his face was hilarious.

No sadly my 15 year old DS acts as though he's being tasered if I attempt any physical affection! I get a half hearted kiss and cuddle on special occasions, at my behest! 😂

My 12 year old DD and I are very affectionate. I hope she doesn’t grow out of it.

No DC here, but I hugged my mum all the time as a teenager.

DD1 has ASD so not so many hugs. Got one today though!

DD2 (15) is very cuddly and would totally do this. DS is 11 and would too, hope he continues!

My dd (13 this year) is very cuddly and always has been.

She is always hugging us. I love it.

She's not embarrassed by it at all in front of anyone.

Yes my older teen does this but only when there are others around! She stands next to me with her arm around my shoulders. She doesn't do this when we don't have others in the house. My younger teen wouldn't do that, he's the opposite, will hug and kiss only if it's us x
They all have their little foibles, I wouldn't worry.
If you want to be more huggy, maybe you instigate it.

Teen not like this with me unless after something.

14 yr old DD still randomly hugs me, occasionally in front of people.

DS 16 no way.
DS 18 yes, but never in front of friends.

Mine are very tactile but not in front of friends.
