I dropped DD's friend home after college today and whilst chatting to her mum on their doorstep (don't know her very well) DD's friend came up behind her and put her arms around her neck and just hugged her from behind/to the side if that makes any sense! It was all very natural and sweet. Her mum just carried on chatting. I must admit I was a bit jealous as I can't imagine my DDs doing that, especially in front of their friends! We do hug as a thank you or when saying goodbye that's about it and we do have a good relationship. Would any of your teens do that?

My nearly 15 year old doesnt like being touched or hugged at all - the only time I've been permitted to hug her in probably the last year, is when her grandma died. Sad
My 11 year old gives me loads of hugs.

@Sillawithans

No, and I've got 4 of them Grin
Not whilst I was in the middle of a conversation, not a chance.

We do hug and kiss regularly but not with an audience.

I can imagine your surprise.
Lovely to see.

My mum often tells me what a non-demonstrative child I was - I stopped hugging when I was barely out of toddlerhood.

My kids are not yet teens but my almost 13 year old twins would definitely do this, as would my 9 year old. I don’t mind hugs from them.

Unlike hugs from DH which I don’t like because he doesn’t fucking listen when I tell him actually I’d like a hug now and again where he doesn’t also grope me Hmm. Don’t know why he’s all of a sudden started doing it - but that’s for another thread!

My 14.5 year old DS would absolutely do this. He’s very cuddly. I hope he never changes

MaMelon · 20/06/2021 00:11

My 14 year old would - but he’d equally stomp past me muttering curses on my village. He’s a bit up and down at the moment, the joys of puberty.

My dd - No. She is not tactile. Does not give or want to receive hugs.

Ds - yes, very cuddly until he was 11, I think. Now he is too cool for school.

I got a hug from him, or rather an indication from him that I could hug him, which I did Grin when he got his first A* in his year end exams for a subject I worked on with him to improve. He knew I would be delighted with him and I was.

I'm incredibly affectionate with my 2 sons as are they with me. Neither teenagers yet though. My eldest us very sensitive and I think will definitely remain cuddly with me. My youngest is asd so hugs on his terms... BUT he loves hugs generally too. As he's got older he's more tolerant of us hugging him, but we always ask first.

LoverOfAllThingsPurple · 20/06/2021 00:15

My two sons aged almost 17 and 13 still give me hugs and the odd kisses on the cheek all the time. Every family is different x

IHaveBrilloHair · 20/06/2021 00:16

Dd absolutely wouldn't, she only does affection on her terms and certainly not in front of other people.
She wouldn't have let ne talk to another parent either.

ShowOfHands · 20/06/2021 00:17

14yr old dd will come down from her room just to give me a hug and then disappear back upstairs. She's not very tactile but she does randomly hug me most days.

9yo ds is still in the sit as close as he can, hug constantly, fly out of school into my arms stage. Long may it continue!

AlexaShutUp · 20/06/2021 00:24

Yeah, my 16yo dd is very tactile and would think nothing of hugging me in front of her friends. I don't think it signifies anything either way, some kids are just more huggy than others.

Lollypop4 · 20/06/2021 00:25

When Dc were younger, hugs and kisses were the norm. They stopped so much around age 11.
Dd 17 and Ds 13 dont at all now.
But, Im not much of a hugger or kisser in general.
