To think that people who keep their curtains closed all day must be ill, or hiding something?

The first thing that I do, when I get up in the morning, is to open the curtains. Possibly a window as well, to let a breeze in. There are a few houses nearby, who never open any curtains. Bedroom and lounge curtains are always firmly closed, even on lovely summer days. The gardens are unkempt and scruffy, all the paintwork is peeling. But someone definitely living there, as in one case, a brand new car on the drive and I've seen pizza delivery to the other. Does anyone else find this really odd, and think that there must be something amiss with these people? It must be so dark inside. I find it almost a bit creepy.

We often have our curtains or shutters closed. Either I have forgotten to open them when I woke up, or it’s to keep the light out in the summer (I get migraines) or it’s so that I can sit in my knickers in the summer. Nothing creepy about it. What is creepy is you watching and judging your neighbours: is not enough happening in your own life?

User135792468 · 16/06/2021 19:01

I leave them closed to keep the room cool on hot days. Not weird at all.

Clydie89 · 16/06/2021 19:01

Maybe they are on nightshift?

Longestfewdaysupcoming · 16/06/2021 19:03

I don’t like people looking in and I have a tiny front garden so my blinds are always drawn at the front

TheWaif · 16/06/2021 19:04

In this weather my living room and bedroom would be like ovens when I got home if I left the curtains open all day. No one's fucking sick or hiding anything. Get a grip.

Gilly12345 · 16/06/2021 19:04

I don’t find this creepy but I do find it very odd, yes I too get up and open curtains/blinds and some windows, some people by me don’t open windows even in this heat and their homes must be so stuffy.

nocoolnamesleft · 16/06/2021 19:04

I keep the living room blinds closed because the room is overlooked. The back of the house is not overlooked, so I never close the blinds.

Moonwhite · 16/06/2021 19:05

DS has autism and sensory processing disorder. It helps him to have minimal light in his room.

Read the post above yours for a very obvious and non fucking creepy answer.
Egghead68 · 16/06/2021 19:06

Maybe they are trying to keep cool

Castlepeak · 16/06/2021 19:07

Our home is in excellent shape.
We also keep the curtains closed to keep the sun out and keep the temperature in the house as low as possible.

Summerfun54321 · 16/06/2021 19:09

Working from home in a south facing room with shit loads of glare if the curtains are open. And trying to juggle everything at once with young children and the garden is not a priority. It’s not rocket science to imagine how and why other people live the way they do.

Longestfewdaysupcoming · 16/06/2021 19:09

My back windows have the curtains open. And the windows open. Just not the front because of nosy neighbours.

Also I work odd hours due to my job and sometimes I’m asleep in the daytime.

GimletGal · 16/06/2021 19:10

I open the blinds at the front of my house enough to let light in, but not so much that people can look in. I value my privacy and several people on my street are incredibly nosy. Nobody can gawp in the windows at the back of the house so those blinds and curtains are opened properly every day. I think people who like to sit in public facing rooms with no blinds and wide open curtains are the weird ones!

HarrisMcCoo · 16/06/2021 19:10

My neighbours do this. Blinds down at all times.

jellybeansforbreakfast · 16/06/2021 19:11

Don't think I've opened my downstairs curtains for years! Not in this house or the one before it.

Is it illegal or something?

HarrisMcCoo · 16/06/2021 19:11

I have vertical blinds but gave up closing them as the kids used to pull on them so we are very exposed. I don't mind tbh. Nothing to hide🤷

HarrisMcCoo · 16/06/2021 19:12

We do close curtains and blinds at night though for security reasons.

SupremeDreamz · 16/06/2021 19:12

We keep our curtains closed most of the time because it keeps the rooms from heating up. Also can be undressed when coming in/out of the bathroom through to the bedroom.

My very prudish mother told me that keeping your curtains closed during the day is a sign to the world that you are a prostitute or shagging all day XD Hasn't encouraged me to open them as if someone is actually making a mental note of my curtain habits and concluding that I'm constantly at it then that's hilarious.

StevieNix · 16/06/2021 19:13

No sometimes I just want to sit around either half-naked or naked and even if I’m dressed I don’t want nosey fuckers peering in
If I want my curtains open I open them, sometimes it’s nice to just relax in my own home without feeling like I’m in a fish bowl

AutistGoth · 16/06/2021 19:14

We don't open our blinds because we are vampires! Grin

I'm only joking. We keep the blinds on the south facing windows closed because whilst we aren't actual vampires, we are very sensitive to bright light and intense heat. We keep the blinds on the north facing windows open.

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 16/06/2021 19:14

My curtains are firmly shut in this heat. Trying to keep a boiling house slightly cooler. In less hot times I do open them every morning

Suzi888 · 16/06/2021 19:15

YANBU I open mine, not many others do here though.

Hallyup6 · 16/06/2021 19:15

My daughter is autistic. Her blinds are always closed because she can't cope with the outside world. It's a shame because she actually has a lovely view from her window.

RandomUsernameHere · 16/06/2021 19:15

YABU in the hot weather it keeps the house much cooler if curtains and blinds are closed and we're all out of the house during the day anyway so darkness not a problem. What ridiculous assumptions to make about people Confused
