To think that people who keep their curtains closed all day must be ill, or hiding something?

The first thing that I do, when I get up in the morning, is to open the curtains. Possibly a window as well, to let a breeze in. There are a few houses nearby, who never open any curtains. Bedroom and lounge curtains are always firmly closed, even on lovely summer days. The gardens are unkempt and scruffy, all the paintwork is peeling. But someone definitely living there, as in one case, a brand new car on the drive and I've seen pizza delivery to the other. Does anyone else find this really odd, and think that there must be something amiss with these people? It must be so dark inside. I find it almost a bit creepy.

I prefer curtains as they block out some of the sound too but not with the windows open.

NoPointInWednesdays · 16/06/2021 21:28

I couldn’t give 2 hoots if my neighbours think I’m weird for having my blinds closed all day! The front of my house is south facing literally from the minute the sun comes up it’s beaming in and I have to keep the house cool for my dd to be comfortable and by that I mean if I don’t keep the blinds closed my house reaches 22 degrees by 8am and keeps climbing to 27 sometimes even higher no bother. Another reason why is to keep nosey f*ckers from looking in since one couple decided to come and poke their heads in my open living room window while I was having a nap 9 months pregnant and got a hell of a shock when a severely pissed off hormonal mad women sprang up to ask what the hell they thought they were doing?! I HATE nosey people looking in my windows!! So I keep them shut and like I said, I could not give a flying fudge what anyone thinks tbh Hmm

itsamegladon · 16/06/2021 21:29

Nope just lazy.

Tossblanket · 16/06/2021 21:31

Probably don't want nosey cunts looking in.

RubyFlint · 16/06/2021 21:33

Hoarders?

thefishthatcouldwish · 16/06/2021 21:36

I keep mine closed too keep the room cool.

thefishthatcouldwish · 16/06/2021 21:37

To not too

CaptainMerica · 16/06/2021 21:38

I'm guilty of this. I just don't tend to go into my living room very until the evening, and unless I did it wouldn't occur to me.

I would imagine people with their curtains closed are up and out to work super early, then not home until late. The opposite of lazy, in fact.

Mxflamingnoravera · 16/06/2021 21:40

My front room curtains are closed fri- sun most weekends. That is because my partner come around with a huge bag of rope, sex

Mxflamingnoravera · 16/06/2021 21:43

Bugger!

Typing with wine in my hand...

My partner comes round with a hugs black bag of ropes, sex toys and floggers. We have them laid out all over the sitting room furniture all weekend so the curtains are kept shut.

He leaves on Sunday and the curtains are opened again.

Our lives our choices. We like being in semi darkness when we play.

LibertyMole · 16/06/2021 21:49

I keep my curtains closed so that the sun doesn’t get on my face and age me prematurely.

WeatherwaxOn · 16/06/2021 21:50

I leave the windows and curtains closed when it's hot as otherwise it just fills the room with heat. Once we get to the afternoon, or the sun is off the windows, then I'll open them all up.

As for gardens, I'm sure plenty of people might think, at first glance, mine was scruffy. But it has loads and loads of wildlife in it. A variety of grasses and flowers, a small hedge starting to take shape, and small habitats for bugs. Any parts of my garden that 'encroach' the pavement are trimmed back.

Peeling paintwork. Check. Can't afford to get it sorted.

IDontReadEyebrows · 16/06/2021 21:55

Our curtains are closed during the day right now to help keep the house cooler. And it stops nosy bastards peeping in. According to a thread I saw the other day nosy bastards do like a good peep 👀 That is far creepier imo.

phoenixrosehere · 16/06/2021 22:04

Yabu.

We keep our curtains closed to try to block outside sound because our 6 yo is autistic and highly sensitive to noise. We also can’t open the windows fully because he has also tried to climb out of them (our home has two floors ) so they’re locked and in the cracked position with the vents open. Only windows we can leave open really is the bathrooms (can lock the doors from outside) and the kitchen (on ground floor and opens to the back garden).

GentlemanJackie · 16/06/2021 22:15

I go out before it’s light and get home after it’s dark for over 6 months of the year. I don’t open the curtains

Lilibet2022 · 16/06/2021 22:17

I keep my curtains closed because my NDNs are nosey fuckers and it also keeps the heat in for when I'm home after a long day. Would love to say I'm doing something interesting like growing weed in the loft moonlighting for M15 or just plain off my rocker but alas I'm not that interesting Wink

MirandaMarple · 16/06/2021 22:19

@LibertyMole

Eh?
NotanotherboxofFrogs · 16/06/2021 22:23

Having spent several years living with severe photophobia, my curtains stayed closed and the rooms blacked out. It was a means to survive with the least pain. I had daily carers for several years too and I wouldn't like the idea of anyone passing seeing me receiving personal care (for obvious reasons)

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 16/06/2021 22:25

I got several visits by police to investigate why they were permanently closed as I'm guessing that it looked suspicions. Just the least pain for me

pyjamams13 · 16/06/2021 22:29

Hmmm I close the blinds or tilt them up (which makes them look closed from the outside) when I'm in the room or extension as it feels more private. if I decide to go chill on the bedroom I also close the curtains but I do open them again after.

MarjorieBouvier · 16/06/2021 22:33

Because my small child likes to take his clothes off and if the curtains are open, anyone and everyone walking past will get an eyeful.

theemmadilemma · 16/06/2021 22:36

Blinds in front window stay closed because the bloody dogs bark at everyone passing otherwise.

onemouseplace · 16/06/2021 22:54

I don't open my curtains on lovely summer days as it heats the house up to furnace levels.

LonginesPrime · 16/06/2021 22:58

Perhaps they're hiding from their judgey neighbours.

notthemum · 16/06/2021 23:05

I just HATE nosy people and they all try to stare into your house if they can.
