It just makes me so angry as it isn't an option for most of us yes I know some travel is "allowed" but it is all so uncertain. And lots of places require quarantine etc

I am absolutely sick of seeing smug celeb fuckers all over heat magazine in their bikinis sunning it up in various exotic locations! (Yes I know I could not read the shit but I'd still know it is happening) While the rest of us contemplate if a) we can afford the vastly overinflated prices to holiday in the uk ! And b) if we can be arsed with the extra crowds etc in popular places.

(I was hoping to take dh to New York for his 50th in September, clearly that won't happen)

Yes, I think YABU because there will always be people who can afford to buy and do things that you can’t. How would it be otherwise?

Being a little envious - fine. Angry... it’s only yourself you’re hurting there, and it seems very OTT.

DarlingCoffee · 10/06/2021 16:45

Meh I wouldn’t bother reading about it if it bothers you that much. And who’s to say travel to the US won’t be ok by September? I’d book it if I were you!

Yes you are right ...however I don't really get envious of people with millions of pounds or massive fuck off houses etc, never have. I'm happy with my lot and I've never been able to afford say a Ferrari or a mansion.,and barring a lotto win probably never will

However up til fairly recently foreign travel was in reach of most of us. even on a fairly modest income it was possible through saving or credit cards or going to more modest places. And it's been taken away from us plebs yet the rich can still do it.

Yeah suppose I could... as most places refund or at least rebook

I don't think I couldn't deal with the disappointment though if it did get cancelled ☹️

Just my opinion , but I that it'll be another thing to divide us.
Foreign travel will become as it was in the 50s and 60s, only for the rich to enjoy and be able to do easily.

DarlingCoffee · 10/06/2021 16:57

Book it OP

@shetlandponies

YABU imo.

I am solvent and comfortable, but would like to be much richer/have a lot more surplus money, but I don't resent people who DO have it, or feel anger towards them.

And I am not jealous of anyone. No-one has anything that I want. I have a home, a car, children, a family, a career I enjoy, friends, a lovely home, and a holiday every year (pre covid.) I have travelled, I have lived and holidayed with friends, I have lived in half a dozen different cities and towns, and met many people, and have very little to cross off my bucket list.

I am not very rich, but I don't care.

It's football players Im sick of seeing. My friend had two family members that died overseas during the Pandemic, she couldn't travel to either funeral and was broken hearted. Yet, celebs, footballers and the like can go anywhere it seems. We are about to have thousands of football fans gathering at a ' Fanzone', as long as bloody football doesn't suffer eh? We better not go into another damn Lockdown after this farce of a Fanzone either. I'm sick of it all and really annoyed too.

Sorry to hear about your friends losses

I've got a friend who is in the same position ☹️ can't attend a loved ones funeral abroad. It's one rule for the rich and one rule for us ! Grrr

I bloody hope not ☹️ but I do fear that too

Hopefully once the covid situation improves it will change, there'll be no excuse. it's just frustrating at the moment

It shouldn't be an option for anyone. Studies show time and again the richest people are the main contributors to the climate crisis. I wouldnt want it to be me.

Yeah. This grinds. We have sadly lost family members too and still haven't got there because of quarantine and test rules. It grinds a lot
stopgap · 10/06/2021 19:17

I haven’t seen my parents in 16 months, as they’re in the UK and I’m in the US. I can well afford to travel, but can’t do the 10-day quarantine and my parents can’t come into the US at all. It’s not just people on low/middle incomes who are being screwed over by these nonsensical rules.

MaskingForIt · 10/06/2021 19:35

YABU. Money can’t buy happiness, but it can buy choices which are almost the same thing.

I'm with the one rule for the rich and another for everyone else. It pissed me off in lockdown as well that these people were able to still fly around the globe e and the rest of us could do Jack shit. THE ONS identified that emissions that accounted for 48 % of the full amount WERE DUE TO 1% OF SUPER FLYERS. The government were still letting flights continue despite the pandemic when we were in full lockdown. I'm not jealous but angry. If we get onto the climate change crisis I think it would be sensible that everyone is allowed one flight (holidays) per year. The sheer injustice os unacceptable particularly the other posts on here who haven't been able to fly for compassionate reasons. Which only goes further to highlight the sheer unfairness and injustice.

the80sweregreat · 11/06/2021 09:09

Eleven cities in four weeks for the Euros. Potentially
Thousands of people traveling around and spreading the love and the virus to watch 22 men kick a ball about but other venues are restricted to 30 , can't give your food order to a waitress only by an app and many other rules that only apply to the 'plebs' concerning travel. Not to mention the cost going up if you do decide to travel anywhere.
At least Wimbledon and the Olympics etc are all in one place ( even though they should not be going ahead either really)
I'm shocked there isn't more outrage, but people are accepting it as the 'new normal. '
Sport is king.

seashells11 · 11/06/2021 09:49

I'm more angry at the government than the rich celebs. I think this is all the result of long term planning...to make travel only for the rich.

ConsuelaHammock · 11/06/2021 10:45

I agree with you . Airmiles should be rationed.

the80sweregreat · 11/06/2021 11:08

Airmails being rationed is a good idea, but it won't stop the prices going up and people working the system ( private jets etc)
The rich will find a way around any rules.

minipie · 11/06/2021 11:23

I agree, I don’t mind when someone can afford something I can’t, but I do mind when they are using their money/celeb status to evade rules that are there for the benefit of everyone.

I heard that there is a cluster of Delta variant cases in Canterbury caused by a super wealthy Indian family flying their son (a boarding pupil here) to and from India on a private plane. Thus evading the rules against travel to India, enforced quarantine etc. Totally wrong on all levels.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 11/06/2021 11:32

Exactly. That's the part which grinds.
We now have politicians in UK who did not wuarantine, did they even though they came from amber country.
I think it's all under diplomatic exempt. Like if politicians and their crew are immune🙄

Ozanj · 11/06/2021 11:39

When you travel for work you don’t need to quarantine. That’s the annoying bit. It seems quarantine is only for us plebs as the rich and famous can always find ways to get around it.

It’s more likely to have been caused by the many IT consultancies based around Canterbury. They are still bringing staff from India as normal.
