Anything else?

Your list plus (for me!)

-Skiing/snowboarding/anything that involves whizzing around fast on ice (broken limbs ahoy!)
-Anything involving lots of spinning around/g force/ups and downs, e.g. roller-coasters, speedboats, race cars, going into space (I would just vom profusely, I can't even ride the teacups Blush )
-Mountain climbing (recently watched the netflix doc Sherpa that was an eye-opener - not that I actually had any kind of actual plan/ability to climb Everest anyway!)
-Controversially - swimming with dolphins, I used to want to do this but since Blackfish I've become dubious on whether the dolphins are actually as happy about the situation as they seem or whether the poor things are living a miserable life in captivity and/or being exploited for tourism 'experiences' Sad

I guess we're seeing a bit of a theme of Netflix ruining things here!

bibliomania · 09/06/2021 10:20

Agree about the dolphins, max and also the whizzing around fast. Ugh.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 09/06/2021 10:20

DEFINITELY swimming with dolphins, hate hate hate seeing friend’s Facebook posts about the ‘magical experience’ they’ve had swimming with captive dolphins in Tenerife or whatever. Ditto those riding elephants in Thailand or posing next to a drugged tiger. Just no. It’s not special if the animal is simply there to keep idiotic tourists happy.

Wouldn’t want to go to Everest base camp or anything. Looks like a shithole, rubbish everywhere.

New York- it’s really not that I don’t want to go, but there are tonnes of other places that would be ahead of it on the list.

ApolloandDaphne · 09/06/2021 11:03

Going on a cruise

DidgeDoolittle · 09/06/2021 11:05

@ApolloandDaphne

Going on a cruise
I do not understand the allure of cruises at all. We went on a very short one to try it out. We both hated every minute. My idea of hell.
SmidgenofaPigeon · 09/06/2021 11:07

Oh, and Las Vegas, don’t see the appeal at all, but I appreciate I’m not the kind of person who would enjoy the constant lights/noise/craziness

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 09/06/2021 11:08

Anything forcing wild animals to perform
Snowboarding... Another way to break myself
Bungee jumping (love skydiving though)
I get bored easily on rollercoasters. Only fun the first time.

I'm a bit weird.

Blossomtoes · 09/06/2021 11:08

@malificent7

Bungee jumping. Sky diving. Hate heights and i'd pay NOT to do those things! Anything else?
I’ve done a sky dive and would do another tomorrow. I’d love a bungee jump and a zip wire.

Nothing would induce me to go on a cruise or to anything Disney.

Babdoc · 09/06/2021 11:22

Blossomtoes, I used to feel the same about cruises, but DD, her friend and friend’s mother lured me onto a Baltic one.
The ship onboard experience was as shit as I expected, (noisy, crap music everywhere, loud Americans, junk food cuisine - lots of burgers, pizza, cookies) but it was a brilliant cheap way to get to several places on my own list, including the Hermitage in St Petersburg and several Scandinavian capitals. We were off the ship sightseeing for the vast majority of the time, and sailing into Stockholm at dawn through a thousand island archipelago was stunning.
My own hates include Disney, Vegas, theme parks, long haul to anywhere, anything exploiting animals.
My only thing left on my bucket list is to tour the Holy Land and walk in Jesus’ footsteps, but given the current situation in Israel, it could be a long wait!

FiveGs · 09/06/2021 11:26

Running a marathon
Hiking up K2 (or similar)
Cruising - yes!
Learning how to roller skate/hula hoop/do a cartwheel
Go on safari
Visit the pyramids

All leaves me cold. Wouldn't mind going up in a hot air balloon though.

Checkingout811 · 09/06/2021 11:28

Dubai - just no
Sky dive
Bungee jump
Las Vegas

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 09/06/2021 11:30

Music festivals. And anything involving running, or the cold.

ZaraW · 09/06/2021 11:31

Agree to riding elephants it's so cruel. I tell my friends to visit rescue elephants in Thailand and walk with them so much better. Also agree no posing with drugged tigers, swimming with dolphins, shark cage dives etc

Running a marathon is my idea of hell.

SmellThis · 09/06/2021 11:32

Anything Disney unless I was heavily drugged
New York, there are so many wonderful places in America I'd rather visit
Ditto Hong Kong

Wombats12 · 09/06/2021 11:34

Any horse-drawn carriage ride. Saw a poor, poor horse desparate for water when in Spain on holiday years ago. Didn't do anything for the poor animal, regretted it ever since.

See also donkeys, eg Petra. How people contribute to their suffering, I don't know.

HeronLanyon · 09/06/2021 11:36

Things on lots of others’ lists but not on mine -

Bungee jump
Sky dive
downhill Skiing (although wish I had skied from younger age)
Safari
Dolphin anything other than wild and from distance.
Dubai/Las Vegas/Disney etc never been of interest and never will be.

Still on my list and not ever gone/done -
Iceland
Greenland
Helicopter over partic bit of England.
Kind of - fast car track drive - now think I’d have to be passenger.
Alaska
Weymouth and Dungeness - have been meaning/wanting to go to both for several decades !
Lots of places I want to revisit. Things I want to do again.

SmellThis · 09/06/2021 11:48

You must get to Dungeness @HeronLanyon, there is nowhere like it

FindingMeno · 09/06/2021 11:51

Flying lessons

Lsquiggles · 09/06/2021 11:54

Travelling anywhere super hot, I'm far too ginger for the heat and would be miserable Grin

DuesToTheDirt · 09/06/2021 11:58

Las Vegas
Dubai
Ibiza
But especially, those glass bridges they have in China Shock

Giggorata · 09/06/2021 12:04

Most of what everyone else has said. A surprisingly long list. Apart from the pyramids.
Dolphins have always left me on the dislike side of cold.
Anything that involves exploited animals.
Mad things done at great speed or great heights (astonishing how I have got so old, scared and staid; I used to love them)
Anything both touristy and packaged, Las Vegas, Disney, cruises where the point is to do things together on a ship instead of visit many places, most “experiences”.

There are a few things left I really want to visit. The Iceland volcano is top of that list.

MolotovMocktail · 09/06/2021 12:06

Most of the above plus beach holidays like an island in Thailand. I can’t think of anything more tediously dull than lying down in the sun doing nothing for a fortnight.

DeathByWalkies · 09/06/2021 12:08

Swimming with dolphins is up there for me. I did go to an elephant sanctuary in Thailand, but I was VERY selective in the one I went to - Elephant Nature Park, which has an excellent reputation and doesn't allow riding at all. You meet them, feed them, walk with them and so on but they aren't chained or forced into interactions. It really is the best of the lot.

Cruises - the idea of staying on a floating petri dish with a bunch of pensioners and no way off leaves me cold. I'm more of a backpacker by nature, even if my dodgy back means a wheelie suitcase is more sensible nowadays.

Climbing a mountain / running a marathon - I'm just not the sporty type.

Most things featured on this thread I would happily do, or have done (skiing and skydiving for instance), but I am a bit of an adrenaline junky, and want to visit North Korea as a tourist (yes, you really can)

Blossomtoes · 09/06/2021 12:14

Prepare to be stared and pointed at in Korea @DeathByWalkies. My son says he’s never felt more conspicuous than he did in S Korea.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 09/06/2021 12:26

@Blossomtoes it’s true (I lived there for two years) but it’d not in a malicious way and in no way should it put anyone off visiting a wonderful country.

Someone has my nose in South Korea Grin its very normal to get plastic surgery there, sadly in some ways. A young woman I worked at the school took endless photos of my nose for her plastic surgeon. I’d already left by the time she got the op but she sent me pics- it’s definitely my nose!
