To think eat raw rashers of bacon is disgusting?

As in opening up a packet of smoked bacon rashers that you’ve just picked up from the supermarket, the type you’d put in your fry up, and just eat straight out of the packet? I wash shocked but they told me it’s totally normal and lots of people do it??

Did it as a teen. Stopped due to health risk. Bit like a coarse variety of pancetta.

Mett or Hackepeter is a popular dish in Germany made with raw pork, like steak tartare. Complete with raw egg mixed in. There a strict rules on how to prepare it.
I was just coming on to ask what about Germany. Raw pork mince is a classic party buffet ingredient isn't it?

I saw them eat it with my own eyes last night. A packet of rashers of bacon from Waitrose. And they did it again tonight.

They aren’t raw. They are cured. Which is the same as effectively cooked.

Raw bacon, even smoked, is not fully cured, it’s why it poses a health risk. It harbours bacteria.

Yes but it’s very tightly controlled to avoid illness. The meat must be kept to one degree constantly , it’s semi frozen when ground and it must be eaten the same day

Don't get me wrong I'm not advocating eating raw pork but do people really believe the bacon they buy before they cook it has tape worm eggs ? If people really thought this was true surely nobody would eat it cooked never mind raw 🤔😕

It is true, it harbours both round worms and tape worm bacteria. Which is why it needs to be cooked.
