What on Earth?

VainAbigail · 06/06/2021 13:02

I was wondering this myself op!

Although mine won’t want nails and a spray tan!

AgathaAllAlong · 06/06/2021 13:04

Why would a boy want spray tan and nails? I would not be paying for that.

The answer is though, as much as you are able and willing to afford.

RedthroatedCaracara · 06/06/2021 13:05

Grin Neither does my DD!

Why would a boy want spray tan and nails?

The same reason a girl might, I suppose.

Mine won’t either when she leaves school!
SoupDragon · 06/06/2021 13:08

DD absolutely will want her nails done when she gets to prom age.

CasparBloomberg · 06/06/2021 13:09

Bought him an amazing suit in the Christmas sales after it had been knocked down and down (I assume as no one was buying suits while not leaving the house) in the hope there would be a prom but if not he'd get to wear it after. Cost just £45!!!!!
He says he wants a pair of brown shoes to go with it and has shirts but might want to get a new shirt.
Job done. Might get him a nice aftershave as a gift/well done on getting through the year.

bruffin · 06/06/2021 13:10

Probably spent less on Dd than i did on Ds as we bought him a suit and her dress came from asos, no spray tan or nails for either of them

ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 06/06/2021 13:10

DS is having a BBQ rather than a prom. I think the tickets are £20. They have to wear uniform (unless school have changed their minds on that)
So... £20

CoRhona · 06/06/2021 13:11

Year 11 prom:
Outfit. - Suit from eBay £50, tie and shirt had already
Shoes. - has already
Haircut. - max £15
Spray tan. - no
Nails. - no

Year 13 prom:
Outfit. - nothing, has everything already
Shoes. - as above
Haircut. - £15 max
Spray tan. - no
Nails. - no

And that's fine Soup - my DD just prefers to do her own hair/nails/make up.

I'm interested in costs. The boys at DD's school are wearing suits rather than tux.

Did you buy yours rather than hire because you think he'll get a lot of use out of it?

Whatacockwomble · 06/06/2021 13:12

Haha...nails and a spray tan, really? My DS got suit/shirt and tie/shoes, but all were suitable for wearing to other events so he's had his money's worth out of them. Probably cost about £150 altogether

TeenMinusTests · 06/06/2021 13:13

Don't forget Transport.

yikesanotherbooboo · 06/06/2021 13:14

Hire suit

Whatacockwomble · 06/06/2021 13:14

If money is an issue, you might well find suits on eBay that have only been worn once and get a bargain.

VainAbigail · 06/06/2021 13:15

Yeh this as well. Kids in my area hire limos etc and a bunch of kids share. Do anyone else’s do this?!
TeenMinusTests · 06/06/2021 13:18

As well as limos, from DD1, I remember a tractor, a bus, and a fire engine, and I think a tandem bicycle!

SoupDragon · 06/06/2021 13:25

Yes, they were off to Uni where they might have needed one for formal balls. They were not expensive ones just Moss Bros.

WRT DD and her nails, I know it's absolutely fine. Confused She goes with a group of friends to get them done in the school holidays sometimes. Of course, she could just not bite her natural nails instead 😂

If she wanted a tan she could just emerge from her dark pit of a bedroom for a day and pick up a natural one. 😂😂

I'm not a nails/makeup/spray tan person at all!

Imapotato · 06/06/2021 13:26

Make or female no child of mine is getting a spray tan. Ewwwww.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 06/06/2021 13:28

I've bought mine a suit for next year (ridiculous 6th form business dress uniform nonsense). So if he goes, he can wear that, he's not sure he wants to yet.

Kjr33 · 06/06/2021 13:28

Suit hire £80 inc shirt tie etc (I still think he will grow so didn’t want to buy)
New smart shoes £50 we were gonna go halves but I realised they were needed anyway as I haven’t bought him any for school since the start of y10 (covid etc)
Cuff links will borrow some off family
Tickets £30
Transport free unless he decides to do something else then he can pay for that.

RedthroatedCaracara · 06/06/2021 13:35

Grin some men love a fake tan!

Luckily nothing. My eldest had a very nice suit that he was bought for being my brothers best man, that fit him perfectly. He already had a good job and went out and bought himself some shoes. I was the taxi service.
Eldest ds was living at his dads at 16 and his dad is absolutely loaded (hence ds choosing to live there) His dad paid for his prom.
Youngest ds had a year 6 prom which cost me over £100!! They all chose to wear bloody suits and I couldn't let him be left out.
Dd cost more than a weeks wages.
