Suit hire £50
Shoes bought from suit hire place £35
Total £85

Suit, shirt and tie altogether came to well under £100. He looked utterly gorgeous, and I was willing to spend more but he was very happy with the outfit. I'm glad I didn't spend more because he promptly had a growth spurt!

Shoes about £40-£50, and he wore them in 6th form as well.

Hair - £0. He had long hair, which he brushed and slicked back into a smart pony tail.

Nail, fake tan - £0. Never even occurred to either of us!

DS is wearing DH's tuxedo jacket, we'll get him skinny tuxedo trousers as DH's aren't what's fashionable now. They're £35. He'll wear DH's shirt and bow tie too.

He's wearing DH's Barkers work shoes as they were relatively new and DH won't need them anymore as no suits to wear as not going into office.

He'll have his usual £20 haircut and as it's due a week before prom it's what we'd spend anyway.

As for a spray tan and nails I think he'd laugh in my face if i suggested them.

I may ask if he wants to get flowers for his GF so maybe a few quid on those.

Just glad I've a boy going through this now rather than a girl as the amount people seem to be spending on dresses/hair/make up/shoes is rather high!

Suit £80
Dress shirt £50 Shock
Bow tie £25
Matching converse £60

Everything worn again except the bow tie.

SnarkyBag · 06/06/2021 18:57

Suit
Tie
Shirt
£320

He has shoes he can wear and I don’t count the cost of a haircut (£25) as it would probably need doing by then anyway.

Didn’t rent as he is very tall and slim and the rented options just weren’t as nice a cut as the slim cut suits

I think this is interesting and shows how much pressure there is on young women. Why shouldn't a young man want a spray tan and nails done - I know plenty of gius in their 20s and 30s for whom these are regular treats. I'm convinced thos is where many of the trans issues stem from is men being told they can do these things and be masculine and girls being to if they don't like them they aren't feminine.

Even the fact boys are expected to wear suits not something frillier and fancier like the modern romantics or further back men.

helpfulperson · 06/06/2021 19:26

Can't do these things. I would have edited if we could.

Auntienumber8 · 06/06/2021 19:28

Suit inc shirt and tie £150
Shoes £25
Ticket which included coach to venue £25

RedthroatedCaracara · 07/06/2021 19:29

Thanks for your replies. I thought boys might be less expensive than girls but it seems that's not necessarily the case Grin

Suit from H & M for about £70-80 I think, plus flowery shirt for £20. Wearing his school shoes (DMs) and I cut his hair, so other than the £30 ticket price that will be it. He won’t want to get involved with the whole limo thing either - presume I’ll just drop him off.

When it’s DD’s time I imagine she’ll be a bit “Pretty in Pink” about the whole thing, making something or tweaking an outfit she already has.

I’m so glad mine don’t go in for all the designer gear and hair, tan & nails bollocks.
