AIBU to ask someone to please direct me to the CREEPIEST story I’ve ever heard on MN, about someone who was house sitting in a forest and then a dog got out... if you’ve read the story, you’ll know it. Much to my OH’s annoyance I was up till about 1am trawling the woo threads in Classics but couldn’t find it 😫

OP posts:

I sent it to my friend when she moved to savernake forest last year 🤣

It’s a good yarn, don’t really care if it’s true or not

ChrissyPlummer · 05/06/2021 13:46

Thank you @BlueTriskel

Lazydaz · 05/06/2021 14:02

Love these
Must say I roll my eyes at all these things but did anyone follow the “Dear David” story on Twitter? Freaked me right out even though I knew it was fiction

Think this is a full archive

@SinkGirl how did this end? Every time I get down as far as the warehouse photos the web page resets 🙄 I’ve tried about twenty times!

ASundayWellSpent · 05/06/2021 14:17

God I would have absolutely shit myself. One night out walking my mastiff in the countryside for his last wee not far from our house I saw something that looked like a supernatural black wolf stood in front of me and had just persuaded myself it was a trick of the shadows when my dog went full attack mode snarling his head off and trying to push me back behind him. Goosebumps writing it, I legged it all the way home.

Smokeymirror · 05/06/2021 14:31

Can anybody remember the lady who saw her neighbors daughter in the garden but she didn’t know she had actually died? Think she thought she had badly applied foundation on but it turned out the young lady had been jaundiced before death? No idea if it was true but it stuck with me.

SinkGirl · 05/06/2021 14:31

@PredFerry I had to download the app to be able to get it to work as I had the same issue!

It gets better from there so I would have a look if you can be arsed.

The ending is a bit too subtle I think but overall I really enjoyed the stuff leading up to it, even if it does get a bit silly at one point!

PuppyMonkey · 05/06/2021 14:34

I don’t usually do the woo threads but the ghost in the mill was brilliant because it was spun out do long with great updates.

I’m sorry to PP but I can’t help laughing at you having a harp.Grin

If that happens, it means Dear David has found you. I'm so sorry Flowers

@PredFerry don't bother. It was fairly tedious and went on for far too long with a ridiculous number of irritating photos (I mean fair play, it was obviously a lot of work) and I think we're supposed to assume that David took over his body because it ends with him reassuring us that Everything Is Fine and he's working on some other projects right now.

I tried writing supernatural stuff in my teens. It was a huge disappointment to me to discover that overtly Christian themes simply ruined the story.

SinkGirl · 05/06/2021 15:16

I think it’s less effective obviously reading it all in one go than getting the updates as it happened IYSWIM, which is obviously how it was meant to be read. Quite a good use of the medium and I’m surprised no one has done a better one since that I’ve seen!

Whatafustercluck · 05/06/2021 15:53

A good story told by a great story teller with more than a little dramatic licence. Actually, the part that's a dead giveaway (apart from the demonic voices) is where she loses the torch. Such a horror story cliche that one. Good effort though, made the hairs stand up when I read it for the first time late at night. Smile

Where I grew up there was an old factory which had been closed for years. There was only really the skeleton of the building left.
It was set down off the road and down a bit of an embankment so not easy to get to at all. It was surrounded by 6ft fences.
There was always the rumours about it being haunted. When I was about 15 my friends and I had a sleepover and decided to throw stones towards it as a dare. We got as close as we could, which was still about 50 feet away and chucked a few stones towards the building.
As soon as we threw one, I heard what can only be the most non-human guttural roar sounded out…almost demonic. Then followed by faint screaming coming from the factory itself.

Safe to say we absolutely shit ourselves and legged it. I never went anywhere near the place again.

When I write it down it sounds like absolute rubbish, but I swear this happened!

justanotherneighinparadise · 05/06/2021 16:17

I remember reading that ages ago just before going to bed. I was fucking terrified 😱

GoodbyeToCare · 05/06/2021 16:43

I read a Slender Man story on here years ago and it freaked me out. Something about the Slender Man following her home on the opposite side of the street?

Wasn't there another snow one where a poster had been a childminder in a chalet and there were footprints all around the outside of the chalet but no one had been there?

HarryDavidj · 05/06/2021 17:46

Wow StormBaby that must have been really frightening. I've had general Feelings about a place, and in one case a person, but yours sounds quite specific.
Was your dog running towards it?

ChrissyPlummer · 05/06/2021 19:29

@GoodbyeToCare I’ve read a similar one to that. Someone in a house alone, snowing outside, dog goes bananas and they open the door to see footprints leading up the front path but none leading away.

ChetChet · 05/06/2021 20:46

I think it was Jux who had the animal running after her and her dog. The one she recalls ran on hind legs.

CovidCorvid · 05/06/2021 22:50

Yes, Jux rings a bell. Though I seem to remember her story was more of an urban setting than the campsite/field next to some woods one I remember. But I might be getting two stories confused....I thought Jux’s tale of a beast on two legs was outside a cemetary?

I was out walking with the ex husband, older kids and daughter in the pushchair. I had hold of our small dogs extendable lead. Walking in broad daylight through a small patch of ancient woodland that’s been left as a nature reserve. The dog rushed into the trees barking his head off so I started following in, gathering up the lead, and inside the bushes I come face to face with a man standing there. Start apologising about the dog, feel really embarrassed, go to turn away and realise that it’s not actually a man but a humanoid shape, so black and dark it’s actually an absence of light pretending to be a human. All the hairs on my body are standing on end. It’s literally two feet away from me, then it just vanished in front of my eyes. I came crashing out of the trees terrified, gathered everyone up and said we need to leave NOW. This was 20 years ago and I’ve never been back there.
I remember many years ago as a 13 year old, I had my first boyfriend (who was 16) - I was at his house, and had to get home. The absolute bastard made me walk into town to get the bus by myself rather than come with me.

The route to town went through the town’s gardens - the main part is big and open and by the beach, but the park I had to walk through was a narrow path through loads of trees and almost no light.

As I was walking I saw the a man ahead of me - I could even tell you now exactly what he looked like and was wearing. He was just stood there and I was walking towards him - I was hoping he would start walking or do something but he just stayed completely still, looking in my direction.

I kept walking and as I got closer to him I thought I was going to have a heart attack.

Then as I got to about a metre in front of him, thinking I was about to be murdered, I realised it wasn’t a person at all but light bouncing off a bush. My brain filled in all the details of a person, even down to his face and clothes, but there was nobody there.

Scared me to death though, and of course I dumped the boyfriend 😬

TaraR2020 · 05/06/2021 23:38

Does someone have a link to the mill ghost story please?

Love this thread Grin

DobbyTheHouseElk · 06/06/2021 06:35

I think the mill story was deleted.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 06/06/2021 06:36

It ran for several parts I think. Over the 1000 post Mark a few times.

There was another similar one where the op was walking in a field with her cousin when they were young. The big animal was stalking them on the other side by the hedgerow and when they ran it chased them on two legs, I don't remember who the poster was though.
