AIBU to like summer?

RampantIvy · 31/05/2021 19:16

There is already a thread for summer haters so I thought I would start one for summer lovers.

I love summer because:

I don't have to wear several layers to leave the house.
No need for central heating.
My garden looks nice.
Long, light evenings.
Being able to line dry my washing.
I can wear my summer clothes and go barefoot.
I suffer from SAD.
It never gets stupidly hot where I live (it got up to 20 degrees here today).

@RampantIvy

Only me who likes summer then?
Yes Grin

I love summer, its the best time of year by far. Love long days in beer gardens, trips to the beach, hikes and summer dresses.

shivawn · 01/06/2021 18:53

I used to live in Australia for years and we used to move around the country to ensure that we always had perfect summer weather....North in the Winter and South in Summer. That was absolute bliss!

2orangey · 01/06/2021 18:56

Summer is lovely when I have time off, especially if I can can cool down by the sea. Not so much when I'm stuck in a stifling hot city and commuting every day on sweaty public transport!

StCharlotte · 01/06/2021 18:57

I adore summer!

Chicchicchicchiclana · 01/06/2021 19:03

I like summer even though I am fat and hate revealing my flesh and don't have enough summer clothes. But people are happier, the evenings are longer, the flowers are out. I really get fed up with people moaning the instant the temp goes above 20 degrees. You've got most of the rest of the year to call your own.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 01/06/2021 19:11

I love Autumn personally, but there's definitely something to be said for sunny evenings sitting outside (as long as there's enough breeze to keep cool!)

Bluntness100 · 01/06/2021 19:16

Me, I love it too, makes me really happy. Sunny days, warmth, shorts and vest, barefoot pottering, sitting in the garden. I’m with you.

U2HasTheEdge · 01/06/2021 19:21

I love it! I am at my happiest when the sun is out and it is lovely and warm. I have spent all day in the garden reading.. bliss. Back to work tomorrow and gutted that I won't get to enjoy the sun as much as I would like.

It changes my mood for the better massively.

Dustyhedge · 01/06/2021 19:34

I’ve been off today and it’s been lovely. This is about the max temperature I like though and I’m not looking forward to working in the heat tomorrow. I’d quite like a constant 24-25 degrees with rain at night time only. I think that would be lovely.

LongIslandIcedT · 01/06/2021 19:35

Summer is great as long as it's sunny. That holiday feeling without the travel. People are generally happier. Long bright evenings.
Just having the windows open and listening to the birds is nice.
I hate Autumn and winter it just feels so long to be stuck indoors in artificial light or wrapped up in tons of layers.

JADS · 01/06/2021 19:36

I really love summer especially the bare footed bit, but my favourite seasons are spring and autumn and I really sad we don't seem to get them anymore.

KnottedFern · 01/06/2021 19:39

I actually love all the seasons! I think there is something really nostalgic about the summer for me. It reminds me of being young, leaving school and having my first proper boyfriend. It felt like an endless summer that year for me and like I could do it be anything I wanted in life. As soon as it starts to warm up and you can smell summer in the air it takes me right back. I greet every season with happiness though. I'm always very happy when Autumn rolls round. I think the changing of seasons in the UK is beautiful, even when it pisses it down with rain all the time.

frankenpoodle · 01/06/2021 19:40

Of course YANBU to like what you like. Living somewhere where it isn't too hot makes all the difference.

I wish I could like summer, but it is uncomfortably hot where I live, so I mostly hate it. On the other hand, our winters are mild, so on all but the very coldest days, we can still be enjoying time outdoors while others are complaining about the misery of winter.

Livpool · 01/06/2021 19:41

I love summer - and it is so short in the UK so needs to be enjoyed.

My asthma is so much better when the weather is warm and my tree pollen hay fever has gone. So I can breathe at last 🥳

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 01/06/2021 19:43

I hate summer 😂 there's no escape from the heat, you can't open the door without letting 5892 bugs in (I do live in a rural location though) and the fashion is rubbish.

Give me crisp autumn days, orange fluttering leaves, beautiful boots and gorgeous coats 🎃🍁🍂🍃

I know I'm mental to most though 😂

newnortherner111 · 01/06/2021 19:45

I like the absence of cold and light evenings. I like autumn for its colours.

DeathStare · 01/06/2021 19:45

I adore summer. If I could I'd live somewhere where it is always summer.

cupsofcoffee · 01/06/2021 19:48

I love it, but I work outdoors so that definitely has an impact on my opinion Grin

Cam2020 · 01/06/2021 19:50

I actually love all seasons but I think they have their place. That (seemingly) interminable winter was hell for me, despite liking winter (in its rightful place).
I'm much happier now the sun has put in an appearance and have some energy back. I always associate summer with fun.

Whyhello · 01/06/2021 19:52

I don’t mind it but I do hate bugs (with a few exceptions like bees, butterflies and ladybirds) and I don’t like getting so hot I’m pouring with sweat. It makes my hair all frizzy which is naff. I prefer autumn and spring really, happy mediums.

GhostCurry · 01/06/2021 19:54

But your position is kind of the default, OP. Summer is generally regarded as A Good Thing which is why you get people reacting with the “actually summer isn’t all that great if you ask me”.

LaurieFairyCake · 01/06/2021 20:32

I love summer if I don't have to do anything

Just spent all day on the beach having an amazing time getting wet/Sandy/sweaty/covering myself in suntan cream and getting sand in it/wearing a short dress and bikini bottoms

Cannot cope with having to wear work clothes and make up - summer is unbearable having to look 'presentable' SadAngry

RampantIvy · 01/06/2021 20:36

I think it depends where you live @JesusIsAnyNameFree. I’m on the edge of the Pennines so it never gets relentlessly hot here. We might get a few nice days, but they are always interspersed with cooler days and wet days. It rains a lot where I live, which is why we have a lot of reservoirs Grin

I am much more comfortable in fewer clothes. I feel claustrophobic and constrained when I’m bundled up in several layers. Today I just wore underwear and a maxi dress.

I love bright, crisp autumn days as well. Sadly they are pretty rare round here. Autumn is usually grey gloom.

But your position is kind of the default, OP

I’m not so sure @GhostCurry. There are always loads of I hate summer threads on mumsnet. I refrained from posting on most of them this time, which is why I started an I love summer thread instead.
